I haven't watched the dub and don't intend to. It has nothing to do with the series so how can I watch it and claim to have an opinion on the actual title? Kevin Conroy's acting in the 1992 Batman cartoon is awful but that doesn't mean I should run over to the Japanese dub with Genda Tesshou to watch the series.Super Sonic wrote:Maybe Ian Sinclair as the main guy might make the show better. Lots of guys would call you a blasphemer for that as many believe him to be the best Batman, and not just voice.
On-topic, what kind of rides do you guys think the caracters will have? A Merry-mobile, a nimbus-cycle, or what?

It's hard to picture Goku on any sort of vehicle... but I imagine Luffy's will be Franky-built.

It'd be nice if they referenced a lot of the random vehicles Dragon Ball used on chapter title pages and volume covers, but I'm not sure if this is a vehicle race or a foot race.Super Sonic wrote:On-topic, what kind of rides do you guys think the caracters will have? Eh, I can't speak for the anime, but I enjoyed the first volume of the manga, to the point I want to read more. It's got a retro feel to me, in a good way (Most of Jump feels like it's dropped in quality the last few years...well, quite a few years, but there haven't been many really good manga in the last few *sure, we'll get a Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo here, or a Hunter X Hunter every now and again until a Hiatus*. Fist of the North Star, Saint Seiya, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Kinnikuman, and Mazinger all went out of Weekly Jump for their later continuations, and Bleach and Naruto prove that quality is not a requirement for popularity).JulieYBM wrote:I've sat through twenty-nine episodes of Toriko. Including a unique concept doesn't stop a generic series from being generic and unentertaining. Execution, characters, and directing do that and such is something Toriko sorely lacks.
It feels like a Shonen should, from what I've read (that could change, but it's been fun, the key of any good shonen). All three series do, to different degrees. They each do it in their own way, but they have the right spirit. That's why I think this crossover will work (and I hope it's dubbed by Funimation, since they dub all three series).
Given that this is coming out about a week about Battle of Gods, do any of you want to see Bils there?

Toriko anime is not very good imo. The manga is infinitely better; this current arc is on a tear right now
Tim Duncan is dope and forever.

The Toriko anime is pretty terrible in comparison to the manga. The anime took a lot of liberties by adding in a new character that follows the main cast around everywhere which interrupts the pacing, it's heavily censored, and dulls a lot of things down. At least its art and music are good.
The manga is much, much, much better, though. It's exciting, fun, and full of action. I just don't see how it can be called "generic."

Having only watched the cartoon Tina is actually a character I think works really well. It's Toriko gushing over Century Soup and other foods like an idiot that evokes feelings of repetitive-ness and annoyance. That's part of what I'm most concerned will drag down this special. Gokuu gushing over food for five seconds works. Centering any entire character and series around the subject tests the patience like nothing else.MugiMikey wrote:The Toriko anime is pretty terrible in comparison to the manga. So it says Akami comes out because of Luffy and co's power. I'm butthurt now!

Re: One Hour Toriko/One Piece/DBZ crossover to Air April 7
Yeah, I found it rather weird to word it that way. I assume that still just means Luffy, Goku and Toriko, but it's weird that he'd be mentioned as if he's the main draw for Akami.

And Goku's desire to fight people and get stronger isn't repetitive? Come on, any goal that involves doing something several times runs the risk of feeling repetitive. Toriko's goal is to find his life's full course meal, or the best of every single category of a massive meal that would satisfy him as a man. Given he lives in a world where the economy and culture revolve around food, and he is among the most legendary Gourmet Hunters, it makes sense. He wants to do more with his position and power than just sit around and bask. His goal gives him a drive to keep fighting these horrific monsters, to find the best of every meal.JulieYBM wrote:Having only watched the cartoon Tina is actually a character I think works really well. I don't see why this set up is any more repetitive than DBZ or One Piece's set up.
...You know, this topic makes me want to get the next volume. Going to buy the next volume online soon, could use some entertainment.

Yes, actually. Gokuu doesn't soil his pants in overwrought joy every five seconds like the audience is made up of toddles who need a cue card to be told when to cheer. Having sat through twenty-nine episodes I've had my fair share of "Oh boy, food sure is great!" masquerading as a psuedo-1980s comic. When your support characters (Tina, Komatsu and Rin) are more entertaining than your three fighting-type leads there's something of a problem being had.Mewzard wrote:And Goku's desire to fight people and get stronger isn't repetitive? What worries me most is that this entire special is going to force Gokuu's personality to match Toriko and Luffy's when really the special should focus on how different they are. I suspect we'll be stuck with a completely tooth-less PR production that will be manufactured fun rather than actual, genuine fun.

The staff for One Piece episode #590, the second half of the crossover.
590
Script: Murayama Isao
Storyboard: Shida Naotoshi
Episode director: Nakashima Yutaka
Animation director: Yokoyama Kenji
So, we're screwed. Yokoyama Kenji is probably the second worst Animation Supervisor on One Piece behind Deguchi Toshio. Shida's storyboard will be dictated Nakashima, so that's not really a plus, espicially when it keeps him from doing key animation.

-What do you think about Krillin's haircut in the upcoming crossover ? ( Majin Buu Saga or Battle of Gods haircut ? )
-If Krillin has BoG haircut , do you think that Goku will transform into a Super Saiyan God ?
-What do you think about the music in the Dbz scenes ? ( Toriko's music , Kikuchi or Sumitomo ? )

Isn't this being classified as a One Piece episode? If so, I'm expecting their music.

No, the special is in celebration of the beginning of Toriko's third year of broadcast. The way the previous two crossovers have worked is that the first half is a Toriko episode and the second is the One Piece episode. This is why Yokoyama Kenji is the animation supervisor for the One Piece episode.B wrote:Isn't this being classified as a One Piece episode? If so, I'm expecting their music.
