The problem with FUNimation's BD subs aren't the colour, but the fact that the border is way, way too small. If they had a larger border they'd be perfectly readable.dbboxkaifan wrote:It doesn't have anything to do with the aging of a product, but the simple fact that it's a lot more visible than white subs with black shadows, not saying white coloured subs are bad because they're fine for DVD but Blu-rays such as the ones from FUNimation they really made me wish they'd made use of the colour options that's usable on PS3 (if the authored BD has any optional coloured subs).linkdude20002001 wrote:It seems to be the old standard to use yellow. I personally prefer white so long as the boarder is thick enough, but yellow's all right. Also, it actually makes a lot of sense to use yellow for an 80s anime considering. Maybe they specifically chose to use yellow to go with the standard of the 80s.

Officially out today!! I see on Twitter that Mike got his already. Due to some complications with wanting to use Amazon points, I couldn't preorder it, but first thing this morning I put my order in! Amazon says it may take 9 to 11 days to ship, so hopefully I won't have to wait too much longer!
Anybody else get there's? Thoughts? Photos? Screenshots?

Only been able to watch the first movie (which is TV episode length), but it was a blast. Exactly as expected.

Mine isn't in yet, and no telling when it will be - I think they really are holding it hostage until they have the other stuff left on my order to ship with it. Those fiends!
...Ah well. Maybe I can get through a few other things in my large pile of crap to watch before it gets here.

Mine got in a few days ago. Really enjoying watching movie #2 at the moment.

I've got a hold of a "drama" compact cassette of Dr. Slump, which contains the entire audio of the first movie. Just as I thought, it's the original clear audio that the DVD release doesn't contain. Talk about a lost opportunity... I wish I had noticed this earlier.

No. I think I could have let them know that such a thing exists.Kingdom Heartless wrote:Would it have stopped you from buying the set?kei17 wrote:I've got a hold of a "drama" compact cassette of Dr. Slump, which contains the entire audio of the first movie. So is it that the audio on this set is 'bad', or just that it's not as good as it could be? I would assume it's at least as understandable as the Dragon Box audio was, right?

Yeah, I was under the assumption that we were getting a "Dragon Box: The Movies" type deal, where the dialogue was single-channel and the music was multi-channel and everything was crystal-clear. Is that not the case?
Still buying it, though, and everyone else should, too. This is our only chance, people. We can't be picky on this one.

It's just movie 1 that has optical audio from film, which is the only source Toei has access to. So, there's nothing wrong with it.Gyt Kaliba wrote:So is it that the audio on this set is 'bad', or just that it's not as good as it could be? Ahh, all right, phew. For a second there I was worried there was a bit of an issue here. Though as MagicBox says, this is possibly our one chance, we can't let it be squandered!

Since Toei has their own English titles they required to be used for the first five movies, it's safe to assume that the titles below are what will be used if a second set is released.dbboxkaifan wrote:Hopefully the sales will be enough to give light for "Dr. Slump: The Movies - Vol. 2 (Films 6-11)"

Apart from some bizarrities in the first volume, it's generally very well done. There's the occasional hiccup (there's one scene where the characters perform the opening song from the anime, something the translator very very clearly didn't pick up on) but nothing super major.SSJ3_Zack wrote:Also could someone tell me how good/accurate VIZ's translation of the Manga is please?

Re: Dr. Slump: The Movies (1-5) by Discotek
The "tenth" movie isn't listed as such because it's a theatrical complement to the 1997–'99 TV series, and thus in its own continuity. (Technically, the sixth through ninth films are also in a slightly different continuity based on the Brief Return of Dr. Slump manga that was running in V-Jump at the time, but I guess with a similar art style and the voices of Senbei and Arale remaining the same, they were still seen as a continuation rather than an outright reboot.)linkdude20002001 wrote:Since Toei has their own English titles they required to be used for the first five movies, it's safe to assume that the titles below are what will be used if a second set is released.

Dr. Mashirito —Abale-chan is a theatrical short written by Akira Toriyama (originally as a one-shot in Monthly Jump, although this ended up getting published a few days after the animation was released) that accompanied the One Piece movie The Desert Princess and the Pirates: Adventures in Alabasta in 2007. It returns to the style of the first anime (including Mami Koyama as Arale and the music of Shunsuke Kikuchi), though it's too short to get a number, I suppose. It was included in the Dr. Slump movies DVD box. (The manga one-shot has never been reprinted.)

Quick question. I ordered this on Rightstuf last night and it still hasn't appeared in my order status. I'm going to wait until tomorrow to e-mail them, but I don't remember Rightstuf taking so long to put it in your order status.
