Likewise.

Shimada has grown on me a bit but he's grating after a while and his 'kihihihi' laugh is really immersion breaking for me. Much prefer Yanami's performance overall.

Okay. I just saw Vegeta's death. With the music and whatnot, I thought this was done better in Japanese as opposed to the Funimation dub.

Babidi's voice grew on me after a while. I thought it was rather monotone when it came to regular speech, but it feels right when he's excited or yelling. Buu sounds... creepy as hell. Funimation gave Buu a baby-like voice, which I thought was perfect. This version makes him sound like a creepy man-child (which he is) so that's taking some getting used to.

Still interesting to see what Funimation changed in the dialogue, Buu seems slightly smarter in this version.

I hate the high pitched voice Josh Martin gave him.

We're different people I guess... In my head a baby-like voice fits a baby-like character.

But he's not a baby like, he's a man-child. His English dialog is awful as well "Why you no like Buu?" Who thought that was a good idea to make him talk like that, it's not even baby talk.

True. I read the subtitles, I don't why Funimation went that route, no one said Buu rode the short bus.

Josh Martin's performance compounds that problem.

And after seeing Battle of Gods, from what I can tell Buu still sounds the same, so we might have the same thing for Kai.

English Buu > Japanese Buu. The voice fits his funnier english dialogue perfectly imo. That and the U.S. score are the only things I like better in English.
Canon is Jaco, Dragon Ball except for EoZ, Dragon Ball Super anime and manga (both are separate canons)
Kai >>> Z

But it's not funny, and it's a terrible performance. It sounds like a guy trying to act like a baby, instead of just being his character. It's a performance that draws attention to the fact that it's a performance.

I've never really had a problem with Martin's Boo. It's a bit high pitched, but not painfully so like Monika Antonelli's Chaozu and Puar were, and overall it seems to fit the character well enough. Does it sound anything like the Japanese voice? No. But it still gets Boo across well enough, at least in my opinion.

But I'm also one of the few who doesn't really have a problem with Schemmel's Kaio, so what do I know. *shrug*

Antonelli's Chaozu was fine. The performance was good and the pitch fit the character, but I agree about her Puar. Thankfully Puar is a minor character because Antonelli gave him a squeaky delivery. It's painful to listen to. Martin's Buu isn't squeaky, it's just bad and obnoxious. It's bad enough when Buu's confused or happy, but it's not the slightest bit threatening when Buu gets upset.

I don't have any issues with English Buu either, I think the voice itself is fine. I just wish it followed more accurate dialogue.

His Japanese dialogue is broken too — Simmons just didn't translate him that way, for whatever reason. Though I agree that ‘Why you no like Boo' is a bit overkill.

I did not know that. That's some weird, wild stuff. Still, the Japanese actor is not only a better actor, he has a much better voice both when he's childish and threatening.

Judging by the small portion I bothered to watch of this week's Kai; he seems to be doing a far darker take on Boo than previously. A lot of childishness has been replaced by the harsher, darker sound he usually reserved for the more destructive moments in Z. I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. It does make me wonder how the English dub is going to handle it though.

I just watched the episode where Gohan draws the Z Sword. I gotta say, Funimation did a lot better with it. The humor came across better imo. Also the Faulconer score better suited the scene where he releases it. The japanese version makes it seem like a bad guy is about to appear, wasn't feeling it.

The Super Saiyan 3 scene I think Funimation handled better as well. I remember in the dub, Trunks was a little pissed about being yelled at, I thought that was better than him worrying about the radar. Also, the music of course.

The build up to Buu finally killing Babidi, was WAAAYYYYY better in Japanese. One... Buu's voice got so deep it was creepy. You know he was pissed. Two... the music when Buu grabbed him, perfect.

Babidi figuring out how much smarter Buu is than he let on I thought came across clearer in the japanese version. Babidi felt less and less in control, that goes without saying.

I barely remember how FUNi handled the Buu arc, since I haven't watched that dub since it aired on TV... I do remember the music of the SSJ3 transformation being pretty good as far the replacement score goes.

But I do remember the building of dramatic tension between Babidi and Buu being handled really well in the Japanese version, thanks to the voice acting and music cues.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.
