India got its first taste of DBZ series via the toonami slots on Cartoon Network in early 2001. It was telecast on the weekends in the 5pm slot and in the late-night slot on Cartoon Network. The Ocean dub's first 53 episodes ran on repeat for quite a while before around 2004 when the funimation dub took over and telecast the remaining episodes. Dragonball was never telecast in India.

Dragon Ball originally aired on Cartoon Network India in 2009/2010 dubbed in Hindi, but from what I've heard it wasn't very successful. According to one fan in this Facebook group Cartoon Network lost money from Dragon Ball's poor performance, which led to them not airing the Kid Boo arc. Dragon Ball Z returned in 2016 though, and presumably the remaining episodes then aired.

Thankfully Dragon Ball is getting another shot in India. Its airing on Cartoon Network every Sunday from 1:30pm-4pm and weekdays from 9pm-9:45pm not only with a new Hindi dub, but also dubs in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada. They're currently in the middle of the Red Ribbon Army arc I believe.
