Okay, so I just got my Dragon Box Volume 1 in the mail yesterday (thank yoouu eBay :D) and since my standalone DVD player is not Region 2 capable, I had to play the first disc on my laptop (using RCE-evasion) and watch it on-screen via S-video.

A few things happened though. One was a cropping of the picture on both sides, which I suspect is a result of the aspect ratio limitations of S-video. The other thing was the colors; they seemed to differ substantially from what was on my monitor no matter how much I fooled with the TV's settings. The third issue was that, even when Noise Reduction was turned off, the TV image still had significantly less grain than the source.

My question is: why? Are these alterations inherent in my television (a Sony Wega) or the way it's set up? Do I have to calibrate my monitor? And, [if this is even answerable] how do I convince my whining brother that a "Vivid" picture is not necessarily a better one?

I kinda like the colors. The DragonBox may be superior to this set, but the colors are certainly better than before. I acctually like the colors, however...What upsets me the most is the bullshit of how FUNi went around saying the colors were unaltered.

The plain and simple fact is, the only people who would care about the colors being un-altered are fans like us who look into this shit. So they were obviously trying to tell US this. Yet the seem to forget that we will compare images and see through their lies.

I dunno know about you, but the sky looks pretty black to me.
Hey, when i made the above remark, the picture was different. It is green now. Nice find.

I'm curious now. Can someone post the same shot of the UUE edition. We know its completely different from the DragonBox sets, but what was it like BEFORE funi decided to do some junk to it on their own copy?

Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

Here's the thing. Is the bootleg from UUE, or DragonBox?

The bootleg shot is from the Pioneer DVDs. Which in turn are the exact same masters on the UUE.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

Me t--oh, wait ;p

I know the lack of subtitles might not thrill you, but the singles have just as high of a quality as the actual DragonBox sets.

That's neither bootleg from Ultimate Uncut nor Dragonbox, it's actually an old encode by a company which always put the word T in the bottom right corner of their releaces.

The dub version of their encodes are from the Pioneer DBZ dub if I remember correctly, since I originally watched one on youtube back then.

Edit: See the over 9000 clip in the link below and you'll notice the T straight away...

I remember seeing that episode the other night. Should be noted that the scene actually kinda jumps around, so the lines tend to appear and vanish within every frame of that scene. o_o

You can call me Rick because I'm not actually Piccolo.
I missed out on all of the DB Movie fun, huh?
Point blank: it's gonna suck if you want it to. Personally, I'm seeing it as a comedy.

Are you sure the T isn't simply put in by an encoder group?

Episode 024 (uncut), right before the break.

Seeing the probelm on my DVD, it isn't really that big of a probelm (even though it more than noticeable). Other probelms such as the animations glitches pop up here and there as I recall, but they happen so little it's just a little inconvenience.

Just ignore whatever Gokuden tells you about bootlegs. As yourself and theoriginalbilis already said, it's a bootleg of the Pioneer DVDs.

Yeah, I guess it is a little inconvenient when FUNi takes something sub-par and makes it even worse. Inconvenient for their marketing campaign at least...but then again I suppose they're just playing "see no evil, hear no evil" and hoping for the best.
