I'd like a citation on that. No network in Canada has shown any interest in Kai, and we're too small of a market to get a dub just for us unless it's me, and my friends doing all the voices ourselves.dbzforeverUK wrote:Apparently the UK won't be getting it just you Canadians....Lucky

"I like the money it brings in, but Dragon Ball Heroes is the worst. That's actually the real reason I decided to start working on new material. I was afraid Bandai would make something irredeemably stupid like Super Saiyan 4 Broly." - Akira Toriyama, made up interview, 2013.
Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.
Oh no! We won't be getting the Ocean dub... What will I do with myself now!?
lol. I would sooner kill myself than listen to the Ocean dub thanks. It doesn't even hold nostalgia value for me now...

Have you actually met Drummond again since the last time? I thought you only met him twice. I would appreciate it if you happen to meet him again ask him what the case is with Ocean Kai. Is it really being made for the UK or who it is being made for and who is actually producing this dub.Attitudefan wrote: Well this is turning out to be quite awesome. Dude, if he returns...
Also, Scott on Kai is pretty cool. You know, I really should just bring my phone and ask Drummond some questions. I REALLY SHOULD.
Does any body else think that this is all a little strange that we haven't heard anything official about this and Kai is airing in nine days on Kix! I highly doubt they will use the Ocean dub what with the promo using the Funimation voices.
Kirbopher, Subzero Ice, KaiserNeko or anyone with insider information, what is the status on this dub is it coming out in the UK in some capacity? At least give us a hint.
Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.
I have no idea when it's coming OUT, I never implied I had that information, either. I'd wager none of the people you listed know when or where it's actually going to be shown. :/
Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.
I knew it was a long shot and I thought I would ask anyway. Thanks for the reply though. I suppose it wouldn't be a far stretch to say that the producers themselves don't even know when they are bringing it out until this whole thing is dubbed.Kirbopher wrote:I have no idea when it's coming OUT, I never implied I had that information, either. This really is turning into Duke Nukem Forever all over again. Someone has to do a fake Yaht-zee style review of Ocean Kai the same way he spoof reviewed DNF in 09

It's really a shame. I mean we are hearing these great things about this dub but even I am thinking we'll never see it anytime soon. And it's a shame a DVD release probably wont see the light of day since FUNimation hold those rights (according to member here cause I have no clue lol)
I am not a huge fan of FUNimations kai and have been waiting for this dub...
well, I'll stick to my Pioneer DVD's for now lol

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.
Whenever they do the Buu saga for Kai, they shoul re-release Kai in a giant deluxe box set that includes US English dub, Ocean Dub, and original Japanese dub. Then we could all see it.
Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.
Would it do either company any dub to be promoting the dub of the other, though? And which would be the default audio? I'd love to see it, either way.ultimateemail5000 wrote:Whenever they do the Buu saga for Kai, they shoul re-release Kai in a giant deluxe box set that includes US English dub, Ocean Dub, and original Japanese dub. As much as I'de love to see that Funi/Ocean/Japanese box set happen I can't see Funimation promoting another English Dragonball cast that could potentially be better than their own.

I don't see why with Blu-Rays you can't download alterate dub tracks or alternate font subtitles, perhaps for a small fee. I mean, the capability is right there, but I guess companies don't want to cooperate because they're in competition.
I mean, who's even using the internet capabilities of Blu-Ray players? At best you get some kind of interview you can easily find via Google or maybe an alternate skin for the main menu screen. Nobody's taking full advantage of this technology.

That's a great idea, but with specific regard to the Ocean/FUNimation Kai dub tracks, I couldn't see this working out. Firstly because, as you said, the companies aren't likely to cooperate to that degree. However, perhaps more importantly, since the Ocean dub is (in all likelihood) going to be a TV-only dub, that probably means by extension that it will be be edited. Because of the cut scenes, the audio track of the Ocean dub wouldn't sync up properly with an uncut video track.penguintruth wrote:I don't see why with Blu-Rays you can't download alterate dub tracks or alternate font subtitles, perhaps for a small fee. Still, good idea in general. That way people who are fascinated with multilingual dub comparison videos (like....um........me........) would be able to download different audio tracks according to our interests rather than scouring YouTube for different clips since our blu-ray players are region-locked.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

Yes, I have. He's a regular at my gym. Usually don't talk much but I did have a conversation about DBZ recently, where I talked about his Vegeta. He talked about Ocean Kai, and he talked about how DBZ in 1996 was a time where they went all out, as the directors had asked them to. So, Vegeta's voice, if it returns, will sound slightly different than before as the 1996 Vegeta was something he strained his thoat on. Also, He said that the FUNi directors focused more on the psychopath side than his regal side. He said Sabat was focused more on the "regal" side. Oh, and he hopes to do a con with Sabat and have Vegeta go one on one with each other!Solidus wrote:Have you actually met Drummond again since the last time? I thought you only met him twice. My favourite art style (and animation) outside Toriyama who worked on Dragon Ball: Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, Masaki Satō, Minoru Maeda, Takeo Ide, Hisashi Eguchi, Katsumi Aoshima, Tomekichi Takeuchi, Masahiro Shimanuki, Kazuya Hisada

Meh, as much as I like Lanipator as Vegeta I think his Vegeta is overrated. And plus it's a fan parody voice, you might as well invite Gozar as Vegeta or WeeklyTubeShow as well.

I never said his Vegeta was good or anything. It's just that he's probably the most well known Vegeta parody AFAIA.ringworm128 wrote:Meh, as much as I like Lanipator as Vegeta I think his Vegeta is overrated. I'm still looking foward to Freeza's new voice and how it will match up to Chris Ayers.
Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.
Wow, that must feel surreal Drummond being a regular at your gym. That makes sense that the Funi directors focused on the psychopath element you can really see that Drummond played that as much as he could. I have a feeling that if he returns it will probably be more toned down to fit Ryo Horikawa's voice as the new directors seem to want to keep as faithful to the Japanese version as possible. That would be really interesting to see a con with Drummond and Sabat together.Attitudefan wrote: Yes, I have. He's a regular at my gym. Though in all fairness to the guy his Vegeta was fairly decent and a different take than Drummond or Sabat's.
