Well even if he's been training, who's he been training with? None and with no enemies to fight so he has had nothing to push him. That and he's probably spent most of his time rebuilding the world and had a chance to enjoy life for once. All that combined would inshore he's not as strong as he should be. Also if Black Goku is strong enough to match current Goku then Trunks is not going to get any meaningful power boost against him and training wont make any difference at this point either. Trunks is more screwed here then if Cell had become Perfect or Buu had appeared.

Mirai Trunks not training would be atrocious, it would be bad writing impossible to justify. His character would always keep in shape, doesn't mean he has to be SSJ2 or better since, supposedly he doesn't have training partners or decent methods.

Gohan not training, while a step back after the Boo Arc isn't that far-fetched. He's was just starting a family, had a job/studies, Goku and Vegeta to rely on and his personality. He isn't a fighter even Mr.Toriyama said that.

People keep talking about this "Black" character, dose he exist and I missed something because everything I have read relates solely Black Goku and none else.

The preview text in Toei's official site calls the one attacking the future just "Black".

If Black already looks like Goku from the start though, then that image with the extended hand is probably a grunt or underling of some kind, which is kind of odd considering how so far they've only mentioned Black as a single person, without grunts or anything else.

I agree with everything besides for whether or not he's a fighter. Just because he doesn't like fighting doesnt mean he's not a fighter. He literally fights. It's like saying I'm not a student. I don't like doing it but I know I have to. Same with Gohan. But yeah, horrible writing for future trunks if he's stopped training. The dude is the LAST line of defense. I don't even think Gohan would stop training if he went through the same shit future trunks did.

Eh, that was a flashback to illustrate a narration though. This time it'd be taking that shape right in front of Trunks and the viewers. That hand thing in the fog specially seemed to be rather stable, rather than constantly shape shifting.

I think that Black Goku might be somewhere between Fat Boo and Super Boo, so a hypothetical SSJ2 Mirai Trunks is screwed against it, but then he will time travel, creating another timelines, Black Goku will fuse with himself from another timeline making him quintuple his power.

I don't think Room of Spirit and Time would do any effective addition to his power, he trained all that he had to be trained there. Still, I do think Future Trunks could at least reach Super Saiyan 2 somehow.

Trunks went into the Hyperbolic Time Chamber twice just like Vegeta. He didn't get massive powerful the second time and was way behind Goku and Gohan who spent less than a year in there. Even if he did do the Hyperbolic Time Chamber again in his time, it wouldn't make that much of a different. Even Vegeta who did nothing but train for seven years didn't become massively more powerful than Super Saiyan 2 Gohan.

It should also be noted that Future Gohan did nothing but trained after the androids came and died a dog's death, while present Gohan became massively more powerful and even after slacker off for seven years is still more powerful than badass Future Gohan. This shows that it isn't the amount of time you have been training that makes you powerful (although it is a factor), but the quality. Look at Vegeta. Thanks to training with Whis, it took him only six months to catch up with Goku, something he couldn't do on his own for years. The same happened with Gohan. The reason present Gohan became much more powerful than Future Gohan despite spending less years training is because he had his father to guide and train him.

Trunks can train, but his growth is limited by many factors, not just time.

This is going to be one of those times where I'm hoping Toei/Toriyama does an ass-pull and gives Trunks his own unique form. If he's useless the entire arc I'll be sad! I'm betting we are going to see Vegito once more! I'm honestly going to hope that it will be Trunks+Gohan that fuses if their's going to be fusion. Good excuse for a new form to rival their dad's SSJB. Who knows, Trunks might fuse with his younger self and stay permanently with us if that's possible.

Well the fusion of Future Gohan and Future Trunks called Gohanks, made its debut in Dragonball Fusions and Dragonball Heroes recently, so I'm hoping that once Future Trunks learns about the Fusion Dance ritual, that he suggests that present Gohan and him become fusion buddies like Kid Trunks and Goten(it always bugged me that no else does it but them). Who knows what Fusion will do with Gohan's high potential when it combines with Future Trunks anger and willingness to fight(which Gohan lacks therefore making himself his own blocker to become the strongest).
