Goku is based on Wukong from "Journey to the west".In the end,Wukong was granted Buddhahood.Even Gods can't defeat him.
So maybe the same case for Goku

The screening is March 30th, so chillax and sleep...for the next time we're all gonna stay up all night.

I wonder how many lurkers there'll be, taking all this new information and throwing up on their respective websites and YouTube channels without giving credit.

On a more positive note, I am really looking forward to hearing about both the Japanese and US preview screenings through the two podcast extravaganzas that we should be seeing (or hearing, rather) over the course of April. I think it's a lot cooler when you can listen to the excitement (or disappointment :silent: ) in someone's voice when they discuss something like this.

In terms of tomorrow, I hope we don't overwhelm you too much, Julian! I guess as a member of this forum, you will kinda know what to expect- to an extent. I'm pretty sure that tomorrow's forum traffic will dwarf whatever it was during Battle of Gods...in fact, I'd be curious to know how the site numbers have compared to 2013's so far (such as when each movie's respective trailers were released, etc.) The power's all yours anyway.

I must confess, I am a little concerned about how things are gonna go down on the forum tomorrow...

By the way, it's kinda interesting that Trunks's design sheet (I don't know what you'd actually call this) for this movie is on display, even though (I'm assuming) he only appears in a flashback. I don't think I've seen one for Jaco...

I wasn't around when BOG first came out so this is going to be one hell of a sight to see. I'm one that can't wait until summer or whenever to see the movie spoiler free so Monday's gonna be a big day.

Congrats on winning that. The last time I won something big I wasn't able to receive the prize.
Why I use "Geran" instead of "Jiren"

Yes. Even the one in Los Angeles on the 11th will only be subtitled in English.

Around what time should Americans expect to see some news? I'm not sure what time it takes place in Japan, and I don't know the time difference off the top of my head.

I think it'll start around this time.
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.

Not the way it is in Xenoverse, but like in DBO, probably yes. If Toriyama didn't forget about it, of course.

I'm pretty hyped myself. I really hope Vegeta gets his big moment in this film. Can't tell you how disappointed I'd be if it's just another Goku saves the day movie. Hoping for some good stuff with Beerus and Whis as well. :)

ShadowWolf87 wrote: It showed excitement, but it was never implied that excitement was his sole motivation. Vegeta pointed out as much in his monologue during the Buu fight, but it's not seen all that much in the anime. Goku fights to become stronger, to push himself, to test his limits and rise above them, he doesn't care who or why or who whomever is, if they're strong or stronger than him, he wants a crack at them. It's why he was so eager to fight Beerus, not because he was a bad guy, or perceived as one, but for the sheer thrill of fighting someone said to be at an impossibly high level.

The manga never loses sight of this fact. The anime, however, does, complete with additional flashbacks and monologues to give him more "reason to fight" that he doesn't need. This person is there. They're strong. They're a test of his skills. He wants to fight them. Everything else is in the background of Goku's mind. He can understand WHY a fight is important, he can grasp when his family and friends need him, but deep down, in his instinct, he wants that fight, and he won't be happy if he doesn't get it.

The anime has those moments on occasion, but they feel a bit ooc for him there. Not so in the manga.
It wasn't like that in Dragon Ball, he wanted to destroy Tambourine and King Piccolo for what they did to Krillin, he didn't care if they were or not strong at all. He just wanted to destroy them. It began only in Z (second half manga), when he stopped caring anymore about what villain did as long as he was strong.

You mean that retcon in 1989 that made him an alien that got sent from his home planet just before it was destroyed, being raised by a human, taking their name, and growing up to eventually save the Earth?
In anime it was never retconned, as Goku was stated to be an alien as early as in Red Ribbon arc in Muscle Tower by Major Metallitron.

soulnova wrote:Goku was certainly fighting to protect his "loved ones" up to the early Saiyan saga. As its been said above... I would put it 50/50.

There are several points in the story where he is not simply fighting for the sake of fighting. Let's see...

-Pilaf saga. Here he went to explore with Bulma and to become stronger. Alright, yes, get stronger theme point.
-Red Ribbon Saga. First he fought to get back his Dragonball, then to save Jingle Village, and finally to avenge/revive Upa's father.
-King Piccoro Saga. Fighting for revenge for killing Krillin and Roshi and to stop him.
This.

I think its funny given the interviews posted today where Toriyama is essentially criticizing the Toei characterization of Goku (probably mostly in the context of GT)
Where did he mention GT in the interview?

With that said, I would LOVE to see Trunks (current timeline, not future) taken Freeza down with Tapion's sword. Don't get me wrong, I dislike current timeline Trunks quite a lot, but quite a fan of Future Trunks, and would love to see that part relived.

However, I know it won't happen, and I'm quite glad Trunks & Goten aren't included in the movie.
Trunks doesn't have Tapion's sword in Toriyama's storyline, what I mean, Tapion doesn't exist in Toriyama's works, Toriyama just doesn't consider him.

If he doesn't in this movie then he never will.

This movie will be pointless if that happens cause all it'll be is the Namek arc with a different paint job but thankfully it looks like Vegeta is going to take care of things.

We're almost 24 hours away from knowing everything about it.

The only thing I ever want from a future or this DBZ material, is for the official story on the "Saiyans" that minus stuff was fan-fic as it gets and actually ruined the story's main points, please for the love of your masterpiece, Toryama make up your mind a make a final concrete film about it
Nah, Minus is what Toriyama considers, so if we ever get to see Bardock and Gine's flashback in this movie or in any other material written by Toriyama, it would be exactly the same as in Dragon Ball Minus.

I do like the Gods presented in Dragon Ball. Altough, I was afraid for a long time, that it will sway down to the Saint Seiya lore,
but I think that what they did in BOG, they did with grace.
Saint Seiya doesnt have any omnipotent gods rofl
Their strongest character is Hades who is night omnipotent at best.

And you have to understand that DBZ has more interesting hierarchy of gods system because it isnt based on any real world mythologies. the whole idea of Planet guardians to Galaxy guardians like King Kai is an interesting concept to have.
Then we also have supreme Kai beings who are in charge of both living and dead world. And whats even more interesting is that all of them have certain life spans in where the Kai's and Kaioshins change as they grow older like humans.

The whole god meaning in DBZ is meaningless because there is always someone whos stronger than you. \What i don't understand is why would Toriyama try so hard to actually give Goku an official god label. Sūpā Saiya-jin Goddo
which is a western word for God. Is he now trying to say that Goku is now the god of all saiyans? Is everybody suppost to worship him now or something lol? Or does he now have abilities to resurrect people back to life. Create universes, and be immortal?
There is Cronos who can manipulate the time in Saint Seiya, but in overall you are right, all you need to defeat gods in Saint Seiya is to rise your cosmo high (very, very, very high) enough or (and) have some kind of God Cloth. It is pretty similar in DBZ the way you need to have a huge amount of Ki or (and) a special form like SSJG to hurt/defeat Gods. They are not omnipotent.

Don't care about spoilers, will read all of them =D I am sure I would still be able to enjoy watching a movie later anyway. Hope that Frieza runs away in the end.

Just to also point out, Goku also lost his shit with dr gero when he started eye blasting away the city trying to kill everyone. He also told gohan to make sure yajirobe was safe. He also was so worried about Cell killing tenshinhan that he risked getting killed to teleport in an save him. Etc, etc. Honestly I dont know where this whole notion of him only caring about fighting came about. Its complete nonsense to say that its ALL he cares about. He absolutely enjoys himself while fighting for/saving/avenging others no doubt whatsoever. But he very clearly and routinely shows lots of compassion and a need to protect others and feeling really worried sometimes for the well being of others.
