Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread: "Resurrection 'F'"

Well, he didn't reveal who he was. We know that Kaioshin is Kaioshin, Kibito is his servant/bodyguard, Old Kaioshin is Kaioshin from the long past, but who is Whis? Why is he the one who trains Beerus? How he was chosen for that job? Why him being stronger than Beerus he doesn't destroy planets by himself, rather than choosing/training Beerus for this role. We don't even know why he is that strong to begin with. And the most important thing, if he is Kaioshin (theoretically), why both Old Kaioshin (East Kaioshin of the past) and present East Kaiosin don't know or recognize him?

Probably a random guy who suddenly became stronger than gods. Like Goku, who is not anyone special.

But Goku isn't apparently a random guy anymore, he is now a chosen one, the genius who was able to absorb SSJ God into himself.

Nobody chose him to do that.

I like to see Whis as the unknown one in the middle who keeps the god of destruction in check from ever going awol and harming the creators, which would subsequently disrupt the balance of the universe. I guess you can see it like Rayquaza from Pokemon, only on a universal level.

By the way, I heard that Whis could time travel, Time Kaioshin is only a Xenoverse thing, so can Whis be Toriyama's equivalent of her?

Goku was always seen a fighting genius. This is the same guy who was able to perform a Kamehameha after only witnessing its once as a child from the man who created the technique and took 50 years to master himself.

I'm really worried about the whole Whis time travel/alteration thing. The entire Cell saga was about establishing that you can't change the past, only make a diference in some parallel timeline but now your own. I really really hope Toriyama/Toei remembers about that, alteration of the same timeline is a storytelling can of worms they do NOT want to open

It is actually rather interesting if Time Kaioshin from Xenoverse is the same as the one who was mentioned by Toriyama. Was Toriyama the one who designed her? Because his depiction of Time Kaioshin may largely differ from the one we got in Xenoverse.

Well, I don't think it was actually that special for saiyans. Raditz was also using ki blasts, and he was a low-class one, I think it is fairly common for saiyans to use Ki blasts.

It has since been revealed via Xenoverse (possibly as a Toriyama created tidbit that was absorbed from DBO), that the timelines only split if you use primitive time machines. Certain techniques like the magic used by Towa and Demigra as well as newer time machines developed by the Time Kaioshin don't cause the timelines to diverge.

It was confirmed during promotion that Toriyama designed multiple characters for Xenoverse (possibly back during DBO development and the assets were just reused...unless one was Demigra), but they didn't specify who as far as I remember.

I think that's just one of his many abilities, but I don't think he's really a kaioshin of time or anything like that. I do believe Whis has existed for as long as the universe itself. He probably already knew what a SSJG was, but egged Beerus on for his own amusement (and to taste that delectable Earth food). Whis is certainly a character. Toriyama can go any direction with him, be it god of time, the multiverse, balance, or destruction from another universe. That...or just ordinary guy with extraordinary powers.

That is a paradox in itself. Exactly the thing multiple other movies/comics/mangas hit the wall on. Toriyama made a very good decision to go into alternate timelines in Cell saga instead of true time travel alteration becuase it avoids paradoxes the biggest brains on the planet can't solve, let alone storytellers/writers.

Well, maybe Whis has actually the power to change the certain timeline? Maybe he has only powers to change the one timeline where he lives? Who knows. We don't know how time travel works in DBZ, because it was Bulma's Time Machine which worked this way, different time travel methods may work different ways.
