My theory:

In episode 47, Trunks says " that bastard CAN SENSE MY KI NOW ", and in the flashback, we got to see him with his old, purple hair, so... what if he managed to attain god ki ( ssjblue) and he's training some new stadium, trying to control it even in a semi - normal state, similarly to post - ROSAT Goku and Gohan ? Remember, only Gods can sense god / blue ki, and that Kaio in the opening could mean something related to this

OR

Somehow, and for some reason, he got God Ki permanently

This could explain lots of plot holes ( by far ):
he doesn't trasform cause he knows he's weaker than Goku Black, who is SSJ Blue Goku / Vegeta tier ( we know he'll crush those two from synopsis, and this could explain how ) plus, the animators didn't want to spoil us yet

Yup, there's still a plothole : why Trunks stay trasformed even when knocked out in the NEP preview?
So I get back to my SSJ Blue / God permanent ki

So...

IMHO, that Kaioshin got divided by someone / something, giving Black to life, like the Kid Buu - Fat Buu / evil - good split

Later, Black manages to reunite with that Kaio, becoming an even more powerful enemy ( Goku Black SSJ White? Like the one in the fanart posted before )

I also think Mai is alive, cause we get to see, in ep. 48's preview, kid Trunks staring at someone with long, black hair, strongly resembling Future Mai

Those aren't plotholes, though.

One summary mentioned Super Saiyajin power didn't beat Black so that's probably what Trunks still has. He just didn't transform because he didn't transform.

Interesting that Beerus comes back with them. Wonder why he does. Thanks for the translation!

Actually, Pilaf is teaching Trunks to study. Probably a ploy to get the dragonballs. :P

Are these actual scenes from episode 48? I see Goku and Vegeta using their RoF gi and battle armor, respectively. It seems like they can't decide what to wear.

These episode previews always use stock footage from old episodes, so we shouldn't rely on them. You can even see Bulma has her old haircut from BoG.

Oh, you're right. Only now I noticed Bulma's hair. Thanks for pointing that out. It's a shame, though, as I think their RoF outfits look way better than their BoG ones when they turn into SSB.

With that being said, literally all they needed to do to distinguish them without being inconsistent was use Future Trunks' post-RoSAT design...which is how he should look like in the first place.
I think the EoZ is kind of already out the window, I just can't see a tourney without Whis and Beerus being in the food stands.
Where were Beerus & Whis when the Pan was with the Pilaf Gang a few episodes ago? Non-canon episode!

Considering that Black is also voiced by Nozawa and we had previews of the next episode narrated by Goku, Gohan and Goten before, we could have one with Black, why not? :)

"Hey, It's Black... So it looks like that pitiful Saiyan has escaped, whatever, I have more business to do, I'll deal with this later. If you don't want to die, then don't miss next episode of Dragon Ball Super"

So, are their old outfits considered to be their causal wear and their RoF outfits their combat wear?

They don't have their FnF outfits in the opening anymore, so it's most likely that they've been abandoned.

I was basing this off the scan. But if that's the case, what a shame.

I wish they would just switch to their EoZ outfits, those look great.
By the way I prefer thier FnF outfits to the old ones, they look a lot better when they turn Super Saiyan Blue.

These scans use images from random episodes, I wouldn't trust them.

I think Goku's outfit during EoZ was only worn specifically for the 28th Tenkaichi Budokai

The main antagonist of this arc won't be Black, since he'll be trapped in Trunks' timeline. The main antagonist will be the Galactic Patrol! They'll all launch an attack on Earth to arrest Trunks and Bulma.

I'm hoping they train before Blacks arrival and switch back to their ROF outfits.
