Well, they did change pronunciations for Kai, remember? Even some names (or title, I guess), like Guru to Grand Elder. So perhaps they decided to make further modifications for this new dub. Their in-house dub (well, OkraTron 5000 dub) was a sort of half-step between the Japanese version and their previous reversioning, so it wouldn't be too odd for them to take it a step further. I expect us to hear Saiyan pronounced correctly for the first time in a non-"Saiya People" dub.

It'd be funny if only pronunciations for miniscule stuff like Namek is corrected. :P

Depends. I'm thinking it's going to be along the lines of Death Note in terms of pronunciation.

I was hoping for that sorta thing with the FUNi dub, especially when I heard that Freeza had been recast. My expectations aren't too high anymore.

How could they mispronounce it? Nei-mek (Nay-mek)?

It's so obvious just like Saiyan, oh wait..

"Saiyan" was among the more obvious mispronunciations, but I would argue that "Namek" wasn't (and, as I'm sure you'll agree, they pronounced the "a" in "Namek" like the "a" in the word "at," not "ei"). I mean, heck, until it was mentioned by Kirbopher, I thought the way FUNimation was pronouncing it was the correct pronunciation. I would never have thought to pronounce it as "Nah-mek" unless an "h" was included in the word, and it wasn't. The spelling of "Namek" doesn't inherently suggest the "ah" sound. So between my own ignorance, and the possibility that the translators took Japanese accents into account, I think "Namek" is among the more forgivable mispronunciations.

"Saiyan," on the other hand.....
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

In Funimation's English dub, they pronounce it [nam-mek] instead of [naw-mek]. Since Namek (Namekku) comes from namekuji, the Japanese word for slug, it should be similar in pronunciation.

I check this thread roughly ten times every day. Between this and the supposed upcoming announcement concerning a release of Dragon Ball, I'm in a state of constant anxiety.

So, should Tenshinhan be pronounced Ten-sheen-han?

Where'd you hear about an upcoming announcement? Around when can we expect it?

Yes...? That's a silly question.
Though, I'm assuming you meant to write it as [ten-sheen-hawn].

I bet they're still keeping it as Tien...

No, I meant han, like Han Solo. Why did you answer "Yes" as a question? I don't see why mine was a silly question. It's a legitimate question as to how you pronounce the middle syllable in his name.

It was a confused yes. Haha. I thought you were asking to imply that it would be too nit-picky (or something) to pronounce it that way.

But to answer your question, Tenshinhan is pronounced [ten-sheen-hawn].

It's just that when you say [han], the default pronunciation is like the [han] in hand [hand]. Han Solo would be pronounced [hawn soh-loh].
Though different countries and different dialects tend to complicate things... I just go by what Dictionary.com uses.

Please, no. That would defeat all purpose... -_-

Well, I have confirmed that Lee Tockar is Freeza! He got in deep shit for that twitter post hahaha.

Also, it looks like the cell arc is the last arc and that this is Kai. Many of the actors are only playing one or two roles and not a bunch. It looks like we'll have a new Yajirobi and some of the voices have been outsourced to Calgary! This is fact. I'll wait and tell you who Drummond will be playing until he lets me know when he is allowed to talk.

But, He recorded his last line today: 28/02/13!! He was promised that there would be no screaming yet he just finished the scene where Vegeta tries to avenge Trunks. Yeah, last of his lines were right here!

Also, yeah, It seems that it is Kai to Cell. And there will be many old returning voices and many new ones; they didn't want their actors to play many roles---so no Drummond Babba this time. Lol, we laughed when I brought that up.

Oh, I *have* to hear him as Baba. Anyway, didn't we already know about the Blue Water outsourcing? -in before shitstorm-
[quote="Brakus"]For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.[/quote]

Seems like no. Today was their last day in the booth. It's right around the corner now; he said that it might be a few months before release for marketing purposes. I asked if there is a home release that he could sign it.... he said he would take it to Ocean studios downtown and get all the actors to sign. SO AWESOME.

Do you think they're not doing Buu yet or not doing it at all? I imagine the Buu footage isn't even complete yet, so they'd have to wait if they were doing it anyway.
