Neither of those would happen.UpFromTheSkies wrote: break Battle of Gods into episodes, or if we're really lucky, show Revival of F.
It will most likely air on July 5th, or we'll get a short break as said above. That said, I'm hoping we'll get a trailer or something soon.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Animation-wise, I wonder who will be the key animators and animation supervisors for the series. It's most certainly that some of the veterans will be back, but there will be newcomers as well. I'm sure that they have already had the staff fully assembled at this point. If we take the production time into account, they began the production for the first episode back in February. Usually one episode is planned ahead of six months before airing it on television. I have to wonder if they started on the first episode right after they completed the Resurrection 'F' project.
Since this is a TV series, the animation will no doubt be much better, because you have one team working on an episode, rather than a whole staff cluttering on 4 episodes worth of a movie. It's much more spread out which helps tons with the flow of the production.

The animation will no doubt be a lot worse, this won't have the same budget as the movies do.
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Worse case scenario animation wise, will be if it looks similar to how One Piece often does. Anything but Sailor Moon Crystal's style would be fine with me.
Fingers crossed for something in V-Jump this week.

If it's a case like the differences between Maeda Minoru's work on the series, and Maeda Minoru's work on the movies, I'll be satisfied. If it's Maeda to Ebisawa, then we have a problemDoctor. wrote:The animation will no doubt be a lot worse, this won't have the same budget as the movies do.
Here lies a modified Doctor Who qoute. It was killed too early by the moderators. R.I.P.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
The budgets don't mean anything. We already have a talented director taking on the Dragon Ball Super project. With better director comes with better animation. Some of the veterans have changed a lot since Dragon Ball GT ended. Even if Tadayoshi Yamamuro is once again appointed as chief animation supervisor and character designer, the worst it can get is Battle of Gods quality and Resurrection 'F' at its best, perhaps even better.
The animators are paid by a cut, not by their talents. Episode of Bardock didn't have much in way of budgets, but Oonoshi Ryou did wonderful job of providing the cut of Bardock vs Chilled.

I'm excited about this as a series partly because of the variety of people you can have with on it.
Even HaCha, with its sad episode 10, pulled out an artsy cool episode in the 30's.
We'll get good days and bad days, but the great thing is we're not constrained to four or five episodes worth like in the movies.

Here's the Jump Shop coming-soon lineup page (toys, figures, etc) : http://www.shonenjump.com/j/jumpcalenda ... ragonball/
I didn't see anything Super-related in there, but I could've missed something.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Unless Dragon Ball Super gets super-special treatment every episode is going to be working with only 3,000 drawings. If this was Naruto Shippuuden we might get a special episode that has the best key animators known to the production staff given a ton of extra sheets, but it's not. Not even the past two movies we allowed good staff to match the quality of, say, Naruto Shippuuden #85, #167 or #322. I doubt we'll get anything more than the occasional good twenty or thirty seconds of animation from Shida Naotoshi.
Luckily, Series Director Chioka Kimitoshi excels at storyboards that make the use of few sheets, so the episodes should at least look well framed even if the fighting sucks 98% of the time.
I'm most looking forward to who the character designer is. That should at least be interesting to see.

Do you think we might actually get a new character designer? *u*JulieYBM wrote:Unless Dragon Ball Super gets super-special treatment every episode is going to be working with only 3,000 drawings. As in not!Yamamuro? Would be so interesting if it turns out that way.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
It likely will never happen, but I'd kill for Chioka to muster up enough good key animators (or time for one good key animator) to pull off something like Tanaka Hironori's five minutes of animation for Yes! PreCure 5 GoGo Episode #4. Something like this for the climax of the first arc would be glorious. This is single-handedly the best fight scene in an episode of a Toei Animation series, I'd love to see it surpassed for Dragon Ball.
Urara is the Best Girl, by the way.
I'll be damned pleased if Karasawa Kazuya acts as an episode director and storyboard artist, though.

Who knows. Fukkatsu no F is about as close as Yamamuro will ever get to having his fangs grasp the moon*. What's he going to do next, direct another Dragon Ball film? Toei Animation seems to be doing the best they can in not repeating directors at this point, so I kind of doubt it. If he took on the work of an episode director he would be as creatively insufficient as Ueda Yoshihiro is. If he returns to merely being a character designer it would be a bit of a step back, especially in terms of creative control. Then again, he didn't seem particularly creative when he had an entire film to play with, so perhaps returning to being only a character design would work out for him. Personally, I want some fresh blood. Tate Naoki was just Yamamuro's successor as the character designer of Disk Wars: Avengers, maybe he can do the same here or at least act as a secondary character designer and the only chief animation supervisor?Chuquita wrote:Do you think we might actually get a new character designer? *u*

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
If it's not Yamamuro, I'd personally pick Nakatsuru as the character designer. After all, he has an experience in that area, since he was the character designer at the end of Dragon Ball Z (shared with Yamamuro) and the entirety of Dragon Ball GT. Certainly his style has drifted away from Toriyama's style for a good while, but he also has a distinct style that could still work for Dragon Ball. If not Nakatsuru, either Shida or Tate would be a good choice.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Agreed. I really hope people aren't expecting the same level of animation as the movies. It's a weekly show and just like the original TV series', it'll have it's good days and bad days. And I mean, that's usually just the way things are, not just with anime, but with any weekly animated TV show that gets a movie. DuckTales, Batman, Rugrats... the movie animation is always much, much better.Doctor. wrote:The animation will no doubt be a lot worse, this won't have the same budget as the movies do.
Last week I posted this image on Twitter to give an idea of what a weekly DB show might look like today. These shots are from the One Piece\Toriko\DragonBall crossover episode. I feel like this is a good middle ground of what to expect.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
That crossover had a few key animators, most of which were pretty poor. There was also few animation supervisors to help correct the animation. My guess is that most episodes will indeed look a lot like that, especially if the amount of time and key animators poured into Dragon Ball Super is small.
