His recent Goku design pretty much confirms that.
Uhm...no, it really doesn't. It's a simple sketch.
"It's a simple sketch."

Lol, don't let me put this counter-argument to shame with "simple sketches" from other manga artists. Just face it, Toriyama's accustomed to drawing slimmer and smaller characters these days, and that's okay. Artists' art changes.

If that creature has a solid squeleton, you can imagine it'll hurt Goku's hand just punching his arms or chest.....So I don't take it as a sign of weakness coming from a supernatural fighter, the blows will be all the more painful.
None of that really matters if this is Dragon Ball. I mean more...most of the time it is appealing to have an enemy at least look like they can fight or at least store their supernatural energy somewhere. Unless all of their power is magical then the bony guy doesn't even have to worry about ki blasts, he'll just deflect them... Why not just get Man Of Steel Superman to appear instead and destroy everything. What he's an Egyptian God from earth? Stronger than kaioshins? Supposed to be threatening? This is Dragon Ball, most characters get their power from training, or being powerful ruthless tyrants? or having cells of other people? But i pray not from being an Egyptian God. It just isn't Dragon Ball. especially if it is in a threatening way. Like if this was a comedy and arale appeared that would be hilarious but a serious battle with this thing? Just doesn't seem appealing as the main villain(in this form)But even the design is just piss looking. Look at Janemba Hirudegarn...then look at egypt man....what is that?

I seriously don't get why everyone hates the new design, we have had girly looking Zarbon, Fat Buu, Janemba (fat) and yet this is the design that's unacceptable? Heck, the main villains of the Android arc were originally going to be a fat clown and an old man who got replaced by two teenagers. And let's not forget lipstick Freeza and Dodoria and Fish lips Kiwi and Semi Perfect Cell. Seriously odd designs have always been a part of DB.

I think people hate stuff that are different. I knew this would happen when we get new info on the movie. Everyone had their own idea on what the next movie could be and it seems like most people are let down on what they saw. I'm a person who gives anything a chance (with some exceptions) before I see it or play it. Even if I didn't like it then I still give it a chance.

If you can't tell..I am looking forward to this film lol

But I mean, DBZ is lot of funny looking characters. I mean, I am happy to see this design because in the specials, there have been some off designs even for DBZ

I was kind of surprised when Gohan's hair overthrew the thread for a bit. Since it wasn't anything that interested me I just hung out until the thread finished talking about it.

I am interested in movie-plot though! Is anyone else wondering what kinds of special powers this cat-god and the person in the background have? I mean, we have miniaturized Pilaf Gang on the poster for starters, and what might be the Lookout transformed into something else (or a completely different place altogether) beneath mysterious-person-of-indeterminate-gender.

I want to see some more fight scenes like the first two films...but I doubt we'll see that.

Dead Zone's fight scenes were amazing from what I remember; I really like that more martial-arts style of fighting.
I'm really hoping for some creative magical messes.

If that is a transformed/enchanted/cursed version of the Lookout, maybe Pilaf discovers whatever item unleashes cat-guy and mystery-person on the Lookout; it would save time, but it sounds too GT-ish. I'd like to think he discovered said item inside an actual pyramid.

I also feel better now that I was reminded that there are pyramids in Dragon World (and that Piccolo makes one levitate in the anime.)

I wonder if they can top pulling swords out of their bodies like in the Dead Zone, that was fucking cool!

I don't remember Hosoda having any particularly good storyboards for his Dragon Ball Z episode, but if Shida Naotoshi is working on battle scenes then he might have helped in storyboarding. Depending on whoever else is involved in key animating, we could see some good hand-to-hand combat.

It's too bad Nishio Daisuke wasn't asked to return to direct. His storyboards were always rad.

Odd yes basic NO. Besides the fact that those were more original looking designs than Egypt man. and all of those things have transformations. besides kiwi. it is more about the design than anything. heck even if he was skinny still just not a skinny sphinx or whatever he is with no variation. The original has more design and costume than he does.

with a wardrobe that is just from the past on earth, even if it had some modifications to it it wouldn't be so bad. I get DragonBall is a kid show but the design looks like Pegasus used toon world on an actual threatening villain(excuse referencing a series that has Egyptian God stuff in it ><) If he transforms all will be well idk his design is so plain... does noone else think that would be like if you took all the lines off saiyan armor or all the creases and armour janemba or Cell with no chin strap or marks on his body just one uniform color...

This isn't a WHY IS IT DIFFERENT?! DIFFERENT BAD! as it is why is it so plain? The thing in the back of the picture seems like it has a nice design but 1/3 of the reason I love dragon ball is the character design and the armour/vehicles ans such so that design just comes off as not fitting the bill.

Yamamuro probably streamlined the design (ala Maeda and his Coola designs) to make it easier to animate. Give Shida Naotoshi and other great animators a simple design and they'll give you a masterpiece scene.

Do you think it is supposed to be Anubis or a similar-type character then? The snout on this guy looks too short for a jackal. The jewelry lines up pretty well though.

I so closely associate anime-based-on-Egyptian-mythology with YGO (and thus YGO Abridged) that it's so unusual to see it here in something DB-related.

Y'know, I really hope that this movie has something to contribute to the franchise 'In-Universe' wise since they're going they're making such a big deal over the movie's time-frame. Perhaps something that links the main villain to an already existing character or location, rather than just being a powerful guy from out of space.

Give me something that makes this movie worthy of being part of (I hesitate to use this word) the canon story line...oh, and a special Manga volume that contains some back-story to the movie would be nice. :)

The freakin' film is named Dragon Ball. If there's not a single freakin' Dragon Ball in this film, I'm gonna freakin' light this poster on fire.

Speaking of Jeff references, I hope he's on board to review this movie for the podcast, come 2013.

EDIT: Hit the nail on the head:
