Release date for DBZ Season 9

I would have loved if they just released the series correctly in one shot. Then we all wouldn't have to shell out the money for each iteration of it. No matter what FUNimation does, they'll never ever release a correct, perfect collection of the series. And that is a sad thing.

Same goes to Toei Animation.

Well, I guess I should've worded it better. They're knida moving away from it with longer series like Dragon Ball, and those two are rather short, in the 26-episode range, IIRC.

The only way I would pick up a Blu-ray release is if they kept it standard Def and gave us huge chunks of the series in each release ... or even the entire thing at once.

Considering the sheer size of the BluRay discs, they could probably pull that off with an eight-disker.

But, it'd probably be like, 200-300 bucks, which is well out of the average fan's price range, I'd say.

We've been over that before. High Def uses a higher bitrate, which means the episodes need far more disc space. It still works out to like 6 episodes on each BluRay disc if the use the max-bitrate to maintain quality (I guess there is a joke with quality and FUNI in there somewhere... but that's the reality of it). But I"m guessing they would put 10 eps on each disc and still have great quality.

Either way, I'm not buying FUNI BluRays unless they pony up the cash to get the DragonBox masters and release those on BluRay in a similar fashion as the Orange bricks. Quality of the audio and video aside, the Orange Bricks were released quite well... good packaging, somewhat timely schedule, great pricing.

If you read Anonymous Friend's post, you'd see that they were hypothesizing about releasing standard-definition footage on the BluRay discs... Which would be inherently pointless (given that they apparently invested so much in making Hi-Def masters), but the possibility is there... Seems odd enough that FUNi might do it.

I could be wrong, but I just don't see Funi releasing the whole series on Blu Ray, I just don't think the market is big enough yet.

What I think is funi should wait for Kai to finish, dub it, an release it on Blu Ray, DVD or whatever. That's probably there best bet for getting people to buy more DB stuff. A re-release of the main series once the Orange Bricks are done seems extremely pointless, but this is Funimation we are talking about.

Personally I am waiting for them to Release One Piece in cheap boxes cause I ain't going to pay 40 bucks for 13 episodes of a show that goes over 300 episodes.

Dont. Think. Impossible. Funimation can remastered Dragon Ball Kai. Whether it's softer or more saturated, it's entriely up to Funimation. Maybe higher picture quality. But that is small aspect compare to what funimation might have in store for us all. A nice boxsets? An extra with action figure included? Better scripts? Higher quality audio? Awesome booklets with new character designs? Awesome menus with many characters thrown in. Heck, it would be nice if Funimation releases its version of Dragon Radar remote controller.

Even though they've thrown us many curveballs in the past, I don't see FUNimation obtaining the rights to Kai, and then releasing it. It would be pointless to do it, as omegacwa pointed out. They have done so much marketing regarding these remastered sets, and really billed them as the definitive collection. Releasing Kai would deal a big blow to their Z campaign, because I'd be willing to bet that many "newer" fans would go for Kai, considering it will be around 100 episodes or so. From a business standpoint, I think that Kai would do more harm than good for the company.

If they WERE to release Dragon Ball Kai, they would have to take a completely different approach with it. Tell the fan-base that it is NOT Dragon Ball Z. Treat it as a different series, because really, it is. Even though the same footage is used, Kai has a much different feel than Z, and that's the point that FUNimation would have to get across to the public. Kai is widescreen, while Z (despite FUNimation's best efforts) is not widescreen. Kai's episode count will be much less than Z. There's a new musical score, and updated voice acting. All these things make it a different franchise for FUNimation.
