Does anyone remember what exactly the last segment about Roshi's license censoring? I've never seen the 1995 dub outside of Curse of the Blood Rubies, but I guess the cut has something to do with the blade going into his head.jjgp1112 wrote:It was on the Dragon Ball DBox. I actually agree with this. We are getting the footage and that alone should suffice. If FUNimation decides to bless with extras, then so be it. There's no reason to get hyped about these potential extras. We'll see when the time arrives.Raki wrote:No extras are needed.
Many have waited for true remastered footage, that alone is just awesome!
Now, IF we get the extra features, it would be nice get all the features from the Dragon Box Z ported over, including the CGI Dancing Video from the Second Box, LOL!

I want the Japanese extras. I really don't care about the gifts and doubt that they'll be making those again, but the content of the discs should be more or less the same(but spread out across seven sets, obviously).
But they're not a necessary thing for me, really. It's more "Wow, that sure would be nice" rather than "Not having it would ruin the Dragon Boxes for me."

My (out-of-thin-air) guess as to how they got the Dragon Box footage and how they're releasing it for so cheap is that they're not getting the extras or the toys. Another part of the price is the American DVD market itself, but I'm sure the R1 Dragon Boxes would be a lot more expensive if we were to have the extras.
If we do get them I'm guessing (out of thin air, again) that they would probably come with the movies and the last disc of the series as there would likely be more disc space to use on such extras. Right now we're gonna get 7 episodes per disc with two audio tracks. We're not gonna be seeing a lot of extras.

If they had the toys and the gigantic box the Dragon Boxs came in we'd see a $1000 price tag instead of $80 a box, but we'd also only see probably 1 box though as this is the R1 market.Kendamu wrote:My (out-of-thin-air) guess as to how they got the Dragon Box footage and how they're releasing it for so cheap is that they're not getting the extras or the toys. I'd like to know how they're fitting 42 eps on 6 disks, I'm sure it's 7.

No. It is technically impossible for them to preserve the exact same encodings as the original Japanese releases while still tossing on an additional audio track and then upping the episode count by one.Daimo-Rukiri wrote:Technically you CAN fit 2 audio tracks and 7 episodes per disks without losing quality
What you personally define as "losing quality" is not the same thing as the technical reality.

Alright.Kendamu wrote:I think e-mailing them is how the bricks went from 5 to 6 discs.Big Boss wrote:Hopefully FUNi will realize that 6 disks isn't enough for 42 episodes and decide to go with 7.Daimo-Rukiri wrote:I'd like to know how they're fitting 42 eps on 6 disks, I'm sure it's 7.
Maybe if we email them...
I think I'll give it a shot...maybe you guys should too. The more people do it, the better chance of it happening.
EDIT: Ehh, what's their email?

I just sent them an e-mail, too. I think everyone should.

Alright, I've sent an email;

Big Boss wrote:Dear FUNimation,
I would first like to express how delighted I am with you regarding your acquisition of the Dragon Box from Toei Animation. Us Dragon Ball fans have been waiting for this release for a long time, so your announcement of the set came as a surprise, and with excitement.
Now, your press release and representative stated that "Dragon Box 1" will contain the first 42 episodes of Dragon Ball Z across 6 disks. This may pose a potential problem, as that means 7 episodes, as well as 2 audio tracks and subtitles, will have to be crammed onto 1 disk...lower video/audio bitrates will have to be forced to make sure it fits on the DVD. Unfortunately, this means a compromise in video and audio quality. The Dragon Box's have always been about quality, so you can imagine how the majority of us are feeling about this issue. So, what we are all suggesting (and I'm sure you'll be getting quite a few of these emails) is that you spread the 42 episodes over 7 disks, instead of 6. This means 6 episodes will be fit onto 1 disk, thus allowing more space and higher video/audio bitrates for our viewing pleasure. It also ties in with the Japanese Dragon Box, as they had 6 episodes per-disk, too.
Thanks for your time, and we hope you'll address this issue.
I would also like a receipt, thanks.

Mine was like:
I don't know much about bitrates and lightsabers so I didn't really site anything. Hopefully someone who known more about that stuff will also send an email. My Email wrote:Hello,
I've just noticed that the Dragon Box collection has been announced for a release in the US and I'm very excited over it! I also noticed that there are going to be 42 episodes on 6 discs. If I remember correctly, originally when the Season Sets were announced that you originally had 39 episodes on 5 discs planned until it was brought to your attention that there would be some loss-of-quality. So, to prevent that, you then announced that the Season Sets would be 6-disc sets.
Going along the same lines, I know that the Dragon Box encodes take up a lot of disc space. In order to preserve 100% of the quality of the Japanese Dragon Boxes (which their single releases are 6 episodes per disc with one audio track and no subtitles), wouldn't it be safer to put 42 episodes on 7 discs instead?
Also, I want to say "Thank you!" for bringing the Dragon Boxes to the USA. You've made many Dragonball fans, including myself, extremely happy!
Please email a receipt when you read this and, if possible, please reply.
Thank you,
Josh
