Who's ultimately to blame for Cell's completion?

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Yes, but then Krillin could've destroyed the deactivated android.

Oh well obviously there's that.

Still, I blame Vegeta more than Krillin. Krillin was in love.

No, he was in lust. With a being he thought was a robot. Because she kissed him on the cheek after beating all his friends and/or allies to the brink of death.

The dude had never been with a girl before.

That kiss was probably the closest he had ever been to being kissed or being loved by a girl.

Marron is filler.

If I think about it, it's almost ridiculous that Cell ever became his complete form. There's just so many ways they could've stopped it. But then, in a shonen manga like this you don't go foreshadowing a characters "ultimate transformation" for so long only to never have it shown.

They probably could have stopped Cell from becoming complete, had they just waited for Goku to heal, and then destroy at least one of the androids.

Again, I'm not so sure Cell couldn't absorb them even if they were deactivated.
It wouldn't do anything, though. If they're deactivated, their batteries put out no energy. And that's the only real reason he needed to assmilate them. I'm guessing the fact that monster fom Cell stayed near the time machine all those years instead of making his way to the lab implies he needed to assimilate the batteries while they were active.

We don't know that. Deactivating them could, say, just shut down their brains. Also, I seem to recall Cell once mentioning that "it's a shame that the remote controller was destroyed, it'd make it easier for him to absorb them". Though maybe that was a portuguese-dub-only line.

I don't recall that line. Meanwhile the daizenshuu item bio says that it stops the battery.

Apparently, if Vegeta had planted a wet one on Krillin back in the Saiyan Saga, he'd have escaped from Earth with no problem.

Just realized: Gohan is to blame.

Vegeta, Krillin, and Goku already had pre-existing character traits/flaws that would explain why they did what they did. Vegeta's battle boner, Krillin's normal boner, and Goku's fair battle boner. Gohan disintegrated almost half of Cell's body, and chose not to finish him off out of some stupid self-induldging revenge scheme. Gohan doesn't think about things like revenge. This is automatically worse, as at least the other's mistakes can be attributed to what was already established for the people they are.

Gohan is to blame for Goku and Trunks' death. However, he is not to blame for Cell becoming complete.

Because it just obviously was. Doesn't matter how stupid or ridiculous it seems.

Because it would just effect a different timeline. Already the events in the cell saga effected 3 time lines. I'm assuming based on the writing that if he tried to go back he would affect a different timeline altogether and not the main one.

The more I think about it, with this logic, what was the point in going back in the first place? Trunks's world is still shit no matter how many timelines are created.

Trunks' time-traveling allowed him to become more than powerful enough to kill his timeline's Androids and Cell. That's a good enough reason right there.

Yes. Even though he didn't know he was going to end up getting stronger.

He didn't know the effects of time traveling until his second visit. Remember it was the death of 19 that gave everything away. Plus he was looking to bring Goku to his timeline and have him kill the Future Androids. Though Trunks managed to get strong enough to kill them all on his own.

That would have been a really cool fight, Goku and Trunks vs the Androids.
