Yuji Naka has said himself that Robotnik is his real name.
Eggman is just a nickname given to him by Sonic and Crew that he eventually came to use.

Oh, excellent Nappa. Really captures what a sadistic bastard he is. I also totally agree with the Eggman being a stupid name thing. Sure, Robotnik isn't exactly the pinnacle of cool, but it's a heck of a lot better than his current name ( which to me sound like Humpty Dumpty in a cape and tights.)

Doesn't the name "Dr. Eggman" and "Dr. Robotnik" differ between the Japanese and American versions of Sonic The Hedgehog? Sorry if I'm wrong.
And heck, we're trailing off-topic here!

Yes, but STH1 was developed (I think) in Hawaii, was partially developed by Americans, and was released in America first. Therefore, Robotnik is his original name. Also, in the Japanese version SA2, his real name was revealed as Robotnik to the japanese. Nowadays, that name is actually GAINING popularity overseas whereas it has fallen out of favor in America.Piccolo Daimao wrote:Doesn't the name "Dr. Eggman" and "Dr. Robotnik" differ between the Japanese and American versions of Sonic The Hedgehog?
