Wow...a meme for each trailer? There's gonna be seven of these Dragon Boxes, correct? So that would mean five memes to go.

Honestly, I doubt there'll be a meme reference in each one... but it would be funny!

What's a 'meme'?

My bad if that's a dumb question.

An often spouted catchphrase spawned from the internet. "I herd u liek mudkips" or "an hero" are examples of memes.

The next one should be Trunks.

"Hello, it's me Trunks! Do you have the balls to go to the store half dead in a tin suit, just to buy this boxset?!"

I guess it's just another one that I don't get. Is there a collective agreement among the rest of the internet that something with the word "inert" is funny?

If we're just picking 10-cent words to point out and find hilarious for no apparent reason, I'll go with Kami's usage of "tenacious" in the original dub of DBZ movie 1. And you can throw in some footage of Jack Black.

There. Meme created with no effort. That's funny... right? Right, guys?

Well, the original phrase was: "The balls are inert."
I'm assuming somebody imagined Piccolo was talking about testicles rather than Dragon Balls and thought it was funny. We're a mature bunch, here, on the internet.

Oh, the "inert" joke.

I was hoping for a "YES YES YES!!"

This is the worst "phoned in" Piccolo I have ever heard. It doesn't even sound like Piccolo.

This just reminds me of the scene in the the Simpson's when Krusty comes in to do the voice over for the doll or whatever, reads his lines and leaves before the tech even cues him.

This new trailer really reinforces what my sole, single, annoyed issue is with FUNimation's release of the Dragon Boxes (which sucks, considering that every single other aspect is so fucking dead-on in every respect and don't you dare misquote me or take things out of context because I love them):

The stupid marketing.

I stand by everything that I described in our big feature leading up to the Dragon Box releases. This style of internet-humor, lowest-common-denominator marketing is better suited for the orange bricks. That's the audience that they were going after at the time, and this would have spoken directly to them.

Instead, the orange bricks got these amazingly matter-of-fact, professional, detailed, and respectful trailers and commercials that played up all of the technological wonders and importance of the sets. Sure, they were filled with outright lies, but it was the type of messaging that counts. Why can't we get THAT back for the Dragon Box sets?!?

I feel like I'm being treated like a fucking moron all over again, despite the products being geared toward an entirely different audience that actually cares about things and has the knowledge base and experience to back-up those desires.

Argh

These Ads don't appear on TV do they? If they do I have never seen them.

I feel like these ads are just thrown together in like 5-10 minutes in house at Funimation just so they have some sort of internet ad due to some kind of mandatory advertising contract.

How long has FUNi been planning to release these?

My guess is, at least at the beginning, the Orange Bricks were going to be the definitive release for them, the last hoorah, so to speak. They didn't plan on releasing Dragon Boxes until later on. That's why the advertising for the Orange Bricks was given a lot more attention.

And think about the audience too. The Orange Bricks were aimed more for the people who grew up with/still like the dub. A lot of those people don't spend their time on the internet looking up this kind of stuff, so they wouldn't even know about the Japanese version, let alone the Dragon Box.

Then, with these Dragon Boxes, the target audience is the people who are larger fans of the original. The kind of people who are on the internet looking this kind of stuff up, the kind of people who do go to wonderful sites like Kanzentai and Daizex to get their DB fix. There isn't really much of a need to spend much on advertising when a good chunk of the target audience already knows about this kind of thing because they look into it on their own.

Oh jeez. You know, I actually like Sabat's older Piccolo voice as compared to the latest one.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SnznJBWhDKw

The lines SUCK, but his voice in my opinion is better. Later on it just becomes monotonish, drone, and boring. That combined with Vegeta's changed voice, when Piccolo or Vegeta are yelling, you can't tell who's who.

ANYWAY, Sabat did both trailers and used an internet joke in both. I fully expect the next one being in Guru's voice saying something like, "pop goes the weasel," followed by Yamcha's voice yelling "cat loves food!," followed by another Vegeta voice doing a "CLOWN!!!" or something.

I'm not a fan of the trailers. But who cares? It's the freaking Dragon Box.

I think they're just having fun since they are advertising it so low key. That's just some guy's YouTube account; I don't see this anywhere on their site. It was probably an extra on another FUNi series' DVD. The thought process seems like, "Who gives a shit about these trailers? The people who have been waiting fifteen years for something like this are still going to buy it, so there's no harm in using time-tested cheese to sell it to every other DBZ-head."

Maybe since they know fans of the Japanese version will buy this anyway, they are at least trying to side with the dub fans which... love Internet fads...? What? Yea, I don't know...

Well, I realize why VegettoEX feels insulted, but I'm so jazzed about the Dragon Boxes in general, I can have a little fun with them, despite their corniness. You can't expect Funimation to show a full consideration for the fans.

You should see the Funimation forums, though, they're eating this shit up.

The phrases "Remastered and restored frame by frame," and "This is the definitive Dragon Ball Z experience" were recycled from the first Dragon Box Z trailer.

Not to be confused with the nearly identical wording from the remastered season set promos, "The digital cleanup of the film has been performed frame by frame," and "Ultimate and definitive editions of Dragon Ball Z." Oh, irony.
I can see their parachutes.

Then it seems FUNi succeeded in what they were trying to do.
