My little great comparison (screencaps from 12 releases)

Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

Now, now, it's done better than what FUNimation did, because they made for example Goku's white spot on his gi where his name's written look yellow, and I can assume you it doesn't in the French and Italien versions. Neither does it look too read.

Wow, why does the American Dragon Box shot look so bad? I thought it was supposed to be comparable to the Japanese Dragon Box, yet here, even the Remastered season 1 looks better.

Could you post the same shot from Japans Dragon Box?

On a side note, Kai looks great! I wasnt sure if I was going to pick it up when it gets an eventual release state side, but the removal of filler, combined with that screen shot showing its visual quality, has sold me.

It's also a nice reminder of how far we've come since the Pioneer releases.
As far as I can see, the French and Italien screen captures are identical.
It probably had something to do with such a dark screencap right next to the Italian one while nothing was next to the French one. Optical illusions and all...

No shots from a downloadable encode of a Kai episode are actually representative of what is on the final Blu-ray. Just tossing that out there.

Right! Besides, the moment I chose wasn't in Kai.

Well, I did mention it's from the TV version.

I didn't just say "Kai", I said "Kai (TV Version)" because I already know it's not the same as the Blu-ray quality.

But it's really not worth tossing into the mix at all due to the compression, filters, and color adjustments thrown on by the encoding groups, which just makes it completely arbitrary.

I know that, but like I've mentioned somewhere else before, I'm preparing my Double Review for the two biggest Arabic communities.

Unfortunetly, about 98% of what the Arabic communites are watching are bootleges and downloaded materials.
There's no big anime market exept in some selected places who sells them in a rediculesly high price.
So, even if they wanted them, they are too expensive for them. And keep in mind the lack of Internet Shopping culture in the region because parents do not trust any place that asks for credit card information.

Which is why, I though of comparing it to a quality everyone is familier with.

((Maybe I should've said this for the communities episode, but I was abroad and it was too late when I got back.))

VegettoEX mentioned in his review that there was a very slight difference in visual quality between the Japanese DBox, and American one. So I thought a shot from the Japanese version would be worth having in a thorough comparison. Especially since that shot of the American DBox looks so bad.

Even still, its a very clean, good looking shot. The fact that the broadcast version surpasses even the Dragon Box in overall visual quality ( well, in these shot comparisons anyway ) , makes me excited for the future NA release of Kai.

It is comparable. Not exactly the same, but pretty darn close. The differences are small enough that if you don't like the way the US Dragon Box looks, you probably won't like the way the Japanese one looks either.

Still, I'd like to see that shot from Japanese Dragon Box too.

So ya want a original DB comparison? YOU GOT ONE!

From the "Tien Shinhan" saga DVD 2 disc set from FUNimation.

If ya need anymore shots, tell me.

Now everyone start adding the same shot!

Using the opening is generally not a good idea, because foreign dub-only sets might have a different opening altogether.

Here's a screenshot from episode one from "The Saga of Goku" if anyone does want to make an original DragonBall comparison.

Since I never saw Dragon Ball as it originally aired(XD, wasn't even born yet) Is Son Goku's cloths supposed to be purple or blue.. in my friends DB DVD Box(Dragon Box) his cloths are blue. But also from somewhere I read on the Japanese interwebs they touched up or completely repainted some parts.

I'll post Remastered shots in a lil bit.

Here's the Dragon Ball Season 1 screencap:

Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!
