This. I did like Burst Limit, and think that with some caring lift-and-polish it could easily beat Budokai 3, but it was still a "let's test the new systems" game. My hope is that, since a year has passed without a Burst Limit 2, that maybe some effort will be put into it when it does finally appear. I mean, really. Nearly every DragonBall game in the past 7 years or so has been basically a incremental upgrade over the last.
*sigh* Super DragonBall Z 2, where are you?!

I have to say that Infinite World's story mode is much better than B3's for one simple reason: you can pick which fight/minigame you want to play without having to do the entire thing over again.
I also want to add that Tenkaichi 3's 'story' mode isn't that bad. Just imagine how annoying it'd be to have to do a hundred-plus fights before you even unlock Freeza.

I like Tenkaichi 2, because you can move freely around the DB World, and it has almost every single battle of the Anime, and the Movies. The cut-scenes aren't really good, but that doesn't bother me really much, though, if it had better better cut-scenes it'd be "The almost perfect game".

For me, it's a tie between DBZ Legends on PS1/Saturn, and Budokai1/Burst Limit.

Something I was going to mention earlier I loved was Budokai 2's story mode. Yet I hated it at the same time. Let me explain, the going around the board thing was annoying as was the way in which dialogue and scenes were done.
However I loved how they added new twists on stuff. Majin Frieza and Majin Cell mostly. It's one of those moments where I thought "Wait...did that just happen? Cool!" as it surprised me. Taking the new game Raging Blast. Had they kept it secret and it was in the story mode SSJ Broly would be pretty and i'm not a big fan of his.
While I stand by Burst Limit as greatest story mode and I still want an all new original story. I would love it if they did this in the next DBZ game. Take the story and extend it with cool new moments.
Like take the Buu saga why not stretch out his scene a bit. Like again I think Budokai 2 had the random absorptions. Why not do this? E.g You are fighting Super Buu and he absorbs someone new and then fight the new Buu
Or Cell saga add another android or a new Cell form. Like Cell absorbs 16 and is stronger but then Super Vegeta's fight with him makes him spit out 16 and get 18. Sure it never happened but why not?

The storymode where Gotenks traveled in different timelines.
It's a gag manga! It never was nor was it meant to be scientifically sound or accurate.

That's a tuff one......
I like those card based RPG from past 80's to early 90's, where are you flying over map based on card value and facing random enemies and after achieving needed level, you're going to face the boss.....
I also like Legacy of Goku 2/Buu's Fury flying over map.....
I also like a lot Supersonic Warriors unique storylines for each characters.....
I don't like much linear storylines without any opportunity to choose in games based on Dragon Ball and different franchises.
I didn't played story mode in BT2 (never played BT1), so I don't know.... Somebody said that in Shin Budokai, there are some unique storylines??? (Trunks) but I don't have PSP. Infinite World have nice cutscenes, but story mody is lot chaotic with battling first only with Goku and after finishing the game, you can play the other battles but I like it a lot, non-straight fighting quests in comparisson to Budokai 3 and text/picture frames....
Hm, I like most Dragon Ball Z ''Gaiden'' game story mode on NES, Infinite World story mode on PS2 and Supersonic Warriors story mode on GBA.
FighterZ, Street Fighter 6, Mortal Kombat: Funky_Strudel
PS5: Dynamixx88
Trust me, I'm millenial and a designer.

Legacy of Goku II was actually pretty good. A great example of how to make a good sequel.

I haven't played much of Budokai 1, 3, Budokai Tenkaichi 1, but I say Budokai Tenkaichi 2 since it was nice and long. Some parts can get ridiculous like having to fight Evil Buu with Mr. Satan. I like what they're doing with the 3rd one, but they're missing out a lot. Budokai 2 would of been better if they didn't have stuff like Raditz and Nappa at the same stage. The Gohan Buu part was cool and all trying to get Goku to Vegeta.

At least it mixed a few things up, I guess.

No love for Tenkaichi 2? Okay, so the cutscenes weren't great but it covered a lot of the story and had that flying around the map thing from Budokai 3, but only better.

The cutscenes in BT2 were superior to the damn-near nonexistent ones in BT3, but it's Dragon Adventure had you flying around a stupider version of Budokai 3's story mode.
The functions that made DU great in B3 didn't work or were just not worth the trouble in BT2's ripoff version.

Rippoff version? The flying around in BT2 was an enhancement over the one in B3. It looked better, it handled better and there was more places for you to explore in BT2.

What? B3 had tons of hidden locations, it had better effects, multiple what-if battles(simultaneously, no less) and most important of all - the goddamn ki-sensing actually worked.

I have to say Super Sonic Warriors. It covered all the basic sagas and then went into some fantastic what-ifs. Granted the lack of characters really hurt it in the story mode department but I thought they pushed through it well. I loved hearing a ton of alternative stories. Of course its sequel did the same thing but improved upon the original. So yeah I love both of the games story modes because it wasn't the same shit I've watched 1000 times before.

What? BT2's overworld was horribly designed and looked like crap. It was a pathetic and pale imitation of the one in B3.

I always liked Budokai 3's and BT2's story modes.
However, I'm still waiting for a fighting game to have a full-on Legacy Of Goku style story mode, complete with cutscenes.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Legacy Of Goku II and Buu's Fury make it to the top of my list.
And it's a shame that most other DBZ games for more serious consoles are outwitted by GBA titles.

Dragon Ball Advanced Adventure had a great story mode as well. So did Origins for the DS. As was already mentioned Legends for the PS1 did a good job as well. And in the PS2 department Budokai did a splendid job with the cutscenes. They were simply STUPID to discontinue the trend in the sequels, even though Budokai 3 is one of my favourite games up to date. Tenkaichi 2 also had a decent story mode, but I have yet to see a game that will cover the most in one go and do it properly.
