So where to place him within the canon, then? Perhaps a good time would be @ Earth when Goku's just recovered and still there. It'd be a good warm-up for his gravity training!

Now is it Table or Tarble? I don't remember quite well, but is he concidered canon? If not, I would love to have him be apart of it, even though he had little screen time.Drayenko wrote:Actually there is another Saiyan who survived...Table! I think it would be awesome if Hiya Dragon was canon. Haha, just kidding. But Garlic Jr., Bojack, and Tapion should be be apart of the canon. They almost, damn near fit into it anyway.

Well, I feel that the story works quite well as is. If I had to go with someone, though, I'd probably say Garlic Senior. The backstory of many DB characters just isn't explored enough. The inclusion of Garlic could provide an intriguing look at Mr. Old Testament Kami, Popo (as he supposedly worked for previous Kamis), and Piccolo prior to his big separation.

Cooler or Gogeta. Janemba if they can make the battles with him into the story like they did in Buu's Furry.

I was going to say Cooler because there are plenty of neat ways he could fit in, but then I read Eddie's comment and well... seriously, screw Cooler. Garlic Sr. and the entire awesome backstory to the Child of Kattatsu he brings with him FTW.

Never thought of it that way, thats quite cool really. Then he spends his years training before the whole Buu arc.SSj Kaboom wrote: Story-wise, it also serves as a catalyst for Vegeta to get his 'fighting spirit' back after the Cell Games.

Re: What movie character would you choose to be canon?
I know, I know...... but Daizenshuu considers Garlic Jr., Cooler and Hildegarn as canon.....
For me ignopring Daizenshuu, t'll be Cooler, Janemba (without his cretin form), Gogeta??? I'm quite carefull about this character, because after Z and GT, I'm quite exhausted and annoyed from watching all those fusions and I think that Gogeta won't be that special for me, If he'll be in some anime or manga plotline....
I also like Kakao from 3rd movie....
I do not count movie 9, I consider it canon

I can see Janemba working if they made him canon like how Buu's Furry had him play a role in the story where Goku fights him in Hell, while Goten & Trunks are lurning Fusion on Earth. I would say Gogeta would work if he did something for once other then play around. I always thought that Gogeta in Movie 12, and GT where two different characters in my opinon.

Re: What movie character would you choose to be canon?
Yeah, that Janemba will work in that part of story, where Gotenks tries to master fusion technique and is beated by Buu at last. That would be a lot better filler than Otherworld Tournament.
Yeah, GT Gogeta was pretty weird. You can say that he's idiot because of Goku, but when Goku's fighting, he's damn serious.
But then you can also say, that as new born entity, he have character of his own created from Goku's and Vegeta's elements. But that's out of universe speculation and that's what I don't like to discuss too much.

I always thought it was like this : Goku's joking + Vegeta's cockiness when he's much stronger than foes = Gogeta mocking and fooling around in fight as he was much stronger.

Lord Slug would be cool if they fit him right? It's nice seeing another Namke villain for once, and too bad he was just a King Piccolo clone.

Re: What movie character would you choose to be canon?
Eh, all I've got is either Haiya Dragon or Garlic Sr.
'Cause... most of the movie characters don't really have enough appeal that I'd like to bother fitting them in, Garlic Sr actually contributes backstory-wise to some people, and Haiya Dragon is cute and awesome and gives Gohan stuff to do and why don't I have a HD figure of some kind?
I'd've thought I'd've been ok with Tapion, but for some reason I just don't care.
Tullece can be interesting if handled right... but... meh.
Cooler... Don't care.
Gogeta really seems pointless. In a movie, where time is limited and making "OMG DID YOU SEE AWESOME!" pays off more, ok, but in something longer with more ability to focus on story and characters (manga, anime), especially after Vegetto and that the technique takes time to learn... Weh.

If a movie's characters and events had to be canon, it would be movie 9 (my personnal favorite), which can already fit perfectly in the continuity and makes sense from the beginning to the end. It's a nice bonus adventure which contradicts nothing and is well thought, including in re-creating the "it was long to get there, but congratulations, you finally managed to cross Gohan, now you'll instantly pay with your life" Super Saiyan 2 transformation, and cool ideas like the special Tenkaichi Budokai (which should definately be included in games, with the same "multiple platforms at different levels" and "water ring-out" system - and possibly the "time-attack finale" though I don't know how it would precisely work in the game) which is refreshing for a tournament.

Just because it doesn't have the blaring plotholes that the others have doesn't mean it fits into the canon continuity perfectly.movie 9 (my personnal favorite), which can already fit perfectly in the continuity and makes sense from the beginning to the end.
In Movie 9, Gohan can't just turn SSj 2 instantly, and Goku can somehow travel to the living world even though he's dead. It doesn't fit into canon.
Re: What movie character would you choose to be canon?
That does fit. Goku says he couldn't go Super Saiyan at will until he'd trained, and if there's one thing Gohan doesn't do, it's willingly train.Savage68 wrote:In Movie 9, Gohan can't just turn SSj 2 instantly

Re: What movie character would you choose to be canon?
I think Garlic & Garlic Junior would've been interesting as canon characters, because they would've provided some nice backstory to Kami-Sama. Dead Zone was actually an alright movie. Get rid of the Garlic Junior Arc though. Bleh.
Coola would've been a nice addition to the Dragon Ball canon. Again, it gives a little more to the whole Freeza backstory, and it was good to see that Coola had his own equivalent of the Ginyu Force. Then again, he could be percieved as just another Freeza (since he is his brother, after all).
Haiya Dragon. It was pleasing to see that Son Gohan had a sort of pet, and I liked the fact that they had a friendly bond with each other.
While Gogeta is one of my favourite movie characters, I don't think he should've been canon because, 1, it would be pointless as we already have Vegetto and 2, it would serve little use to the plot, having yet another fusion.
If I had to pick just one movie character to choose to be a canon, it would be Haiya Dragon. He doesn't add anything much to the plot, nor is he contradictory to the story.

Goku also goes right back up to SS1 when he's fighting Freeza.Savage68 wrote:Except when he went right back up to SSj 2 in the manga against Cell, right?
Re: What movie character would you choose to be canon?
I agree with that. In those moments, Goku and Gohan are still in "battle mode", and still angry at the same enemy attacking again. There must be no trouble getting back to the maximum transformation, since their feeling hasn't changed one bit (Gohan could actually be even more motivated by killing Cell at that point, as he's quite keen on having a revenge for what happened to his father - though that motivation will shake off seconds later when the situation turns bad).Rocketman wrote:Goku also goes right back up to SS1 when he's fighting Freeza.Savage68 wrote:Except when he went right back up to SSj 2 in the manga against Cell, right?
To me, it always made sense that he can't go Super Saiyan 2 like he wants, he still needs that extreme anger to get into proper Super Saiyan 2 state. As for his Super Saiyan 2 transformation seven years later just for Kibito, see the discussion on the "Questions" section (some think he can do it at will, others think he still has trouble getting there, but since it's the second option for me, it fits in my little vision of the Dragon Ball universe).
Otherwise, for those who interpret that he can go Super Saiyan 2 at will after Cell, I can understand why movie 9 can't fit into continuity in their opinion, their opinion makes sense. It's just a question of interpretation in the end, neither opinion can be totally discarded I guess (like a lot of things in the Dragon Ball universe, which is one of the nice things about that world).
Goku coming back doesn't strike me as illogical. He's not allowed to, and if Kaio wasn't so nice, would get punished for that. Most dead people have no bodies, so coming back wouldn't give them anything. People who do have a body in the afterlife must rarely be able to teleport, which restrains even more the number of people being able to perform such a comeback. Finally, it is forbidden (who knows what it should have cost Goku as a punishment, maybe taking back his body and reduce him to soul?), but still possible: Goku does come back while being dead seven years later, all the same, except he has an official permission to do so this time. But apart from having permission or not, there must be no difference I think.
I do consider movie 9 as possibly part of the anime adaptation, but not as part of the manga though. To me, the manga's whole story is a complete version in itself, namely the original, authentic version by the author himself, so nothing should be added to it, it's already a full story. Well, I don't know if I make myself clear, but I guess you get the idea...
