That's probably it. You can tell that with the buu saga he was rushing a lot of things with his art. At times it's not very clean and at other times it is really sharp.Kaboom wrote:Yeah, this is striking me as one of those little details that Toriyama just kept forgetting he came up with.

Yeah, Toriyama got lazy, is all.

Re: SSJ3 eyes question
SSJ3 is supposed to have pupils. Toriyama just forgot to add them.
Re: SSJ3 eyes question
Isn't it the same with Trunks? I've seen a few shots where his irises were green and his pupils were visible.
If you think about it, all SSj's in each level should have visible pupils. It's only the irises whose color is changed... pupils don't even have an actual color (you just look into the darkness inside the eye as it were).

Re: SSJ3 eyes question
Wow, what a good scientific point, there...makes me embarrassed that I didn't think of it when I literally walked out of my optics class after spending the entire hour learning about eye optics and immediately went and drew SSJ Goku and Vegeta on the chalkboard in the physics office (without pupils)...Terra-jin wrote:If you think about it, all SSj's in each level should have visible pupils. It is odd that insofar as the presence of pupils goes, it seems to be pointedly prevalent in SSJ3. (Alliteration!) At least from what I've noticed...then again, I didn't notice Trunks' eyes with pupils in them. (Eh, I guess that's not usually where my attention is focused.)

The Trunks example can be found in the Trunks The Story side-chapter.

Re: SSJ3 eyes question
Well, in the Trunks above I think it's normal that he still has them, as he was trying to become SSJ and had't transformed completely.
Otherwise, it is my belief that the SSJ3 design is supposed to have pupils, but as was already mentioned Toriyama had too many things on his head to keep track of every tiny detail. However, Gotenks might not usually have them as he is smaller and younger, dunno - no real logic there, just a guess. In the end though, I think Akira-sensei himself got confused.

Re: SSJ3 eyes question
Actually, I think everyone's looking at this from the wrong angle. It's not a lack of pupils but a lack of irises. Or, rather, distinct iris coloration. So many characters have black eyes to begin with that they blend together, so Toriyama gets used to just drawing one quick circle for the character and calling it a day. Thus, when we now have coloration to them he just does the same thing again. He added them for effect a few times, especially with SSJ3, but then forgot again (as he wasn't in the habit of including the distinction). While this is an out-of-universe reason you can give an in-universe-reason for it. Several, actually. Power adds color, the eye isn't even an iris/pupil combo like we have, some sort of protective covering, etc, etc.

Re: SSJ3 eyes question
The pupil is covered with a green film, therefore Super Saiyans see the world tinted green.

Re: SSJ3 eyes question
I think we're digging deeper that we're supposed to.
We talked about theories of how and why has Akira done it and also mentioned scientific facts, when, in reality, it really isn't that big of a deal - it's just a character design... thingy.

Can I ask you how come do you find "the green circle" green?Travis Touchdown wrote:The pupil, or the black dot within the green circle.

About the "green circle"... that's something I've been thinking about recently. In the series sometimes the Super Saiyan eyes are green, sometimes blue. I can never figure out the real and original intended colour. Though I think it's more likely to be blue, dunno.

Re: SSJ3 eyes question
SSJ eyes were never green, except in some movie(s).

Maybe not on your television, but they definitely were green...hleV wrote:SSJ eyes were never green, besides some movie(s).

I think even the first time Future Trunks transformed in the anime, they were green.

I think they're supposed to be teal. Half blue, half green.BobZ wrote:True, I made little sense with that statement.Olivier Hague wrote:Huh?BobZ wrote:Well, in the Trunks above I think it's normal that he still has them, as he was trying to become SSJ and had't transformed completely.Sorry. What I actually meant was that in the shot above Trunks was still training and he wasn't completely transformed, so that's why his eyes basically remained the same as usual.
