Re: "(Z) Kai" Also Coming To "TheCW4Kids" Lineup
I'm glad that 4kids will be streaming the edited dub. I will watch that with my little brothers on the PS3 and watch my uncut Blu-Rays with my roomates and neighbors. I'm really excited about all aspects of the North American release of DBZ Kai.
Re: "(Z) Kai" Also Coming To "TheCW4Kids" Lineup
The thing with TMNT was it was a triple partnership between Playmates, 4Kids, and Mirage. And Mirage was pushing hard. (For once. Too bad they never swung for a PG13 film.)Kendamu wrote:They've been able to show Leonardo being beaten half-to-death in one season and imply being impaled in another season of TMNT. I'm sure Kamesen'nin can drink milk and a bloodless Bardock can be Kikouha'd without a problem.
That, and producer Lloyd Goldfine really cared about the integrity of the show.
Dragon Ball Z Kai, on the other hand, doesn't have 4Kids locked into a partnership, and has no one pushing for it besides Funimation, who is likely just grateful to get it onto a network at all.

4kids....Jesus Christ, their evil still exists in this world?
After they are done with it, each Kai episode will last 2 minutes maximum.

Y'know... I think it's funny that Kai is airing on both CW and Nicktoons, and both are going to be pretty edited.
But I also look at the 2 greater goods:
1) We get an uncut home release from the start.
2) Dragon Ball Kai is going to fucking STORM American TV, and create many new fans in the process. This is nothing but a good thing. Especially with the supposedly better dubbing.
I'm excited, as I will probably be watching the uncut dub and the broadcast version as well, just for shits and giggles.

Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

This is why I'm much more excited about DragonBall Kai airing on The CW than Nicktoons. Practically everyone with a TV will have access to Kai, be it through cable or antenna.theoriginalbilis wrote:But I also look at the 2 greater goods:

At the same time, 4kids doesn't have much going for itself right now. It needs Kai and I'm guessing that a bloodless Kai where people only drink milk and juice and never make any perverted comments isn't going to be further censored.Cipher wrote:The thing with TMNT was it was a triple partnership between Playmates, 4Kids, and Mirage. You guys in America are so lucky, you can go into shops and just buy DragonBall merchandise! I'd just love to be able to do that once more living in the UK, we're only restricted to games and second-hand stuff.
Which reminds me, I saw a billboard for an anime t-shirt shop which had a t-shirt with the cover art of Goku in the first Daizenshuu. I went back to take a picture of it two days later but it was taken down

Actions have reactions so don't be quick to judge, you may not know the hardships that people don't speak of.

I wish Funi would just buy the rights from whoever owns them here. I doubt whoever owns them is making much money off it.

Don't feel too bad. Most of the really cool stuff that I want to have or have bought has to be imported because it doesn't exist in the USA. That means outrageous prices for something that would've been like $10 USD at the store.LilKokuLink wrote:You guys in America are so lucky, you can go into shops and just buy DragonBall merchandise! Oh, definitely. I didn't mean to imply that I thought 4Kids would require further edits. I was just explaining how TMNT got away with so much, comparitively, for those not in the know.Kendamu wrote:At the same time, 4kids doesn't have much going for itself right now. Huh. Never imagined that 4Kids would acquire the broadcast rights to DBZKai. Ah, well, that's cool. I guess that means I'll be able to watch it after all
I don't think it'll be edited anymore than it already is, though. I think FUNi edited the show for Nicktoons and then also gave that edited version to 4Kids too. I don't think it'll get any worse.

Oh, I get it! Haha! Yeah, not everyone here is a TMNT nerd. I suppose that would require a bit of explanation. Of course, in TMNT, nobody ever really bled, either. I remember temporary scars, bruises, bumps, and the occasional "I'm from an alternate future" character missing part of a limb or an eye, but never any straight-up cuts or blood.Cipher wrote:Oh, definitely. Heck, they even found a way to make Shredder get "decapitated" without it really happening.
The more I think about it, the more I wonder if some of these weird edits like Bardock's scar are more because of 4kids and network television and less about Nicktoons and premium digital cable television.

Hey, Kendamu, do you think this qualifies as the big news we've been hearing so much about? Because it doesn't really seem like an awesome crazy over the top change that everyone loves.Kendamu wrote:Oh, I get it! Haha! Yeah, not everyone here is a TMNT nerd. This was the "shocking good news"?
I find it neither shocking nor particularly good news. I mean, I guess if you don't have Nicktoons, this is good because now you can watch Kai, but it'll still be heavily edited. Er, I mean, moreso than Kai already is.

I sure hope not, but I wouldn't really think so, because as previously noted, it's got nothing to do with a dub change (unless 4Kids! decides to rewrite their own dialogue...*shudder*)...

No, this isn't the good news. Far from it.

No, I don't think this is the over-the-top awesome news. I still think that the over-the-top awesome news isn't something we'll find out about until we actually see the show for ourselves. Something like, "It's also being broadcasted on such-and-such station," has nothing to do with what Kirbopher originally said in his post in the other thread.ohaimynameiserik wrote:Hey, Kendamu, do you think this qualifies as the big news we've been hearing so much about?
