The anime portrayed Goku as being more affectionate?

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Sure, he's saving the world, but he spent maybe 20 years with Chichi (at a maximum).
You see, all I talked about was canon material or in other words, the manga. You are talking about GT, filler material.

In other words, you are using filler material to try to prove he is a bad family man because he never did anything that bad in the manga. And my point was that the original Goku (manga Goku) is not such a bad family man like people seem to think.

Sure, he enjoyed his adventures and fights but that doesn`t change the fact that, even if he didn`t, he would have to do it all the same, spending the same time with his family. The only things he didn`t have to do was learning how to teleport and train Uub but those were useful things for Goku and everyone on Earth, including his family, so its understandable that he took some time with those.
All those other times that he didn`t have to do anything he spent it with his family.

In fact, the only times I think he was a bad family man were when he spared Piccolo and Vegeta. In those instants he put his family (and friends, and everyone on Earth) in possible future danger due to selfish reasons. But he did save them first from those threats so I guess it does balance out, although he would be a better family man if he hadn`t spared them to protect his family and friends.

I'll admit, I enjoy the moments that shows Goku giving some affection for his friends and family. Why? Because we know that he does care for them. The only reason it was never portrayed is because Toriyama HATES mushy stuff. But I don't find a few moments of showing Goku caring to be out of character, because he does verbally show it from time to time in the Manga. Just really not visually.

The thing about Goku is, he's not selfish. Rather just naive. He just doesn't realize that his actions can hurt other people. He just thinks "Well, if it makes me happy. Why wouldn't I do it?"

Are you forgetting that he stayed dead for 5 or so years after Cell killed him?
And what did he get from that?
Fusion and SSJ3. The only thing those were good for were killing Jamemba and killing Hirudegarn.
Oh, you think the Grand Tour is your ally, you merely stepped into the Grand Tour. I was born in it, moulded by it. I didn’t see the Super until I was already a man; by then, it was nothing to me but blinding!

They did try to revive him, you know, and they failed.

He just said it was ok if they didn`t try other things because he was fine were he was with Kaio being with him and all. And since at least the last three big threats to Earth were directly caused by him (the sayans, because he was sayan, Freeza, because he defeated Freeza, and the androids and Cell, because he defeated the RR army) Earth might actually do better without him and have a better shot at peace especially now that Gohan was stronger than him and could protect it from anything that went wrong. He died defending Earth and he was OK with it.

Also I suspect that the decision of not bringing back Goku was mostly a decision by the author to further demonstrate "the son takes the place of the father" theme, so he might have a case of a "decision for the sake of the plot"
