That picture never ceases to amaze me.The Tori-bot wrote:Ah, another Broli thread, another joyous occasion for me to wheel out the image...
But on topic, I guess the fact that he is the legendary Super Saiyan that's said to appear every thousand years is part of his appeal.

I'm still amazed that a kid would think that a character that is bent on destruction and murder is even remotely worthy of the title of the Superhero. The Tori-bot wrote:Ah, another Broli thread, another joyous occasion for me to wheel out the image...
That kid has forever engraved himself as the stereotype of Broly fans, a kid that doesn't know better.
Which is why I mostly think "Aaaaw, they don't know better!" whenever someone says that they like Broly, and when they try to defend themselves all I hear is "My mom says I am special!".

Re: Why is Broli such a huge fan favorite?
Well I know why most people I know liked him. It came before anyone knew a thing about him. Wayyy back when, I'm talking like 1997/1998, in the United States, the popular thing to do where I lived was go on the internet and get pictures of DB/Z/GT. Whether they were screen caps, or something fake (like Goku riding the Nimbus with someone from Ranma), that was just the big thing. A lot of people got pictures form later in the series, things that we didn't actually see. Super Saiyans, Cell, Buu, GT images, etc. And of course, people came across Broly pictures. He was a huge Super Saiyan and everyone generally liked how he looked. And people began to like him before they even saw the movies with him. I still have friends who were DBZ fans when they were kids, but didn't watch much of it after the end of Z on Cartoon Network (no Dragon Ball, GT, or the movies) and they still like Broly without having seen any of the movies with him.

Just thought I'd chip in. From what I understand the appeal stems from the fact that he's just so big, he's such a badass, but at the same time he's so fast by comparison and rather then looking slow he can pull of moves in seconds... that and his back-story seems pretty fleshed out. It even adds to Goku's in a sense.
Re: Why is Broli such a huge fan favorite?
Broli is just plain crazy, destructive, and does whatever he wants.
Like Doomsday. Or the Incredible Hulk. Or Carnage. Or the Juggernaught.
And green. Shiny green things are usually cool.
I like Broli in this bout of insanity/text RPG better than in the movies.
Of course, Buu is crazy and destroys things and is stronger than just about everyone that touches him, other than Ultimate Gohan and Vegetto.
Oh, right. Kid Buu.
And no shiny green things.

I've just given up on the whole Broli thing. Only thing I can think of is that he's big, he's powerful, he's the Legendary Super Saiyan and he supposedly looks cool. If that's what people like for in a character, then that's their problem. What I don't like is that they have to jack on our faces about him every damn year.

The same reason the good SSJs are fan favorites.

I can sort of understand how he gained so many fans in Movie 8, where he was actually pretty cool, but his sequels definitely did some damage to him in my eyes.
As to why he's such a popular character overall? I'm not sure... probably the same reason people watch WWF. People like to watch melodramatic muscle-bound idiots.

Re: Why is Broli such a huge fan favorite?
In many cases today, his presence is over done based on the assumption that he's some fan favorite when really he's just a fun whatever character. caejones said it right when he compared him to the Hulk or Doomsday. He's a mindless muscle head whose sole purpose is to cause destruction and beat the living hell out of everyone. It's fun to watch on occasion and the fight scenes in movie 8 are some of my favorite fight scenes in Dragonball Z. I don't think he's fucking super cool and he's definitely not my favorite character but he is fun in small doses. The problem is, these days Broly never comes in small doses.
...Wait what are you doing? Are you still reading this? I finished what I had to say, why don't you move on to the next post?
