So I think the button masing can be mixed up for different combos as opposed to spider-man. For all we know, it could have a similiar button structure as Budokai.
Or they could just be making you think that.

But yeah there is some hope in that respect...but still the combos look stale even though they're exaggerated. Kinda ironic I guess.

If you don't know what Double Dragon is...

Well, instead of insulting you, just go to www.google.com and have magic journeys.

Aye, that's what I meant. XD I used that title as a reference point since I hoped everyone would know the great-grandmother of all (side-)scrolling beat'em ups.

It actually looks okay. Only shouting and groaning where they should be, instead of every time they throw a punch.

From what I can tell, this game could run on an N64. >.>;; While a good console, by now graphics should've advanced beyond it. XD

Apparently, they're just ripping off cutscenes from the anime as well.

Considering that the game had been worked on for about 5-6 months before it was announced, they should have had plenty of time to improve graphics, gameplay and such.

There's a guy on the DBZonPS2 boards named NeD, who has apparently played the game and says that the game is going to be much better than what we've seen so far. Let's hope so.

What do you mean by them ripping off cutscenes?

He means that cutscenes will be taken directly from the anime, not produced by game engine, like in Budokai 1.

This is what we call "milking the franchise." What a poor excuse for a game. If it wasn't for the fact that it has the "Dragon Ball Z" logo on it, this game would never have been made (nor would it sell).

This game involves:
Walking in a straight line and fighting 300 Saibamen (be careful now, some of them are very big!).
Boss fight.
Walking in a straight line and fighting 300 soldiers.
Boss fight.
Walking in a straight line and fighting 300 robots.
Boss fight.

All the while collecting Z coins and selling them for muscles/powers... :?

This is pathetic! If you're going to buy a 3rd person rpg/fighting game, at least shop around for something good (or just wait for the new Zelda). Don't fall into buying this crap just because it has the DBZ logo on it (although I wouldn't be surprised if it became a hit for that very reason).

Well, isn't that the pattern for most action games?

That's exactly how Final Bout wound up at #3 on the Top PlayStation Games of all time a few years ago, behind Final Fantasy VII and Metal Gear Solid.

The game looks like nothing special. I've played my share of platformers, and there's many others I'd rather play without having to hear "Eat this!" and "How rude!" over and fucking over again.

I actually enjoy the "classic" beat-them-ups like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles the 1989 Arcade...but your post reminds me of the first TMNT they released for Next Generation systems.

And I think you're dot on in that respect, because the game looks to bore me in the same way that one did. Hell...TMNT even had the 2 player co-op.

I think with their mention of an RPG/Action blend and their promotion of a team oriented strategy, they have the right ideas but they're way too bound to convention.

I don't expect anything radical from the brains behind this operation, but I wish someone would take the plunge with this franchise. They're thinking that they can make their money by "walking a known line" and putting in little effort...but they could probably make even MORE money if the game was something that stood the test of time and the eventual word of mouth about it.

But from a purely economical standpoint, as many people have said before, their current actions aren't a surprise.

Shouldn't we at least play the game before making judgements?

No.

Damn those who refuse to judge a book by its cover!

Only the ones that nobody buys...

Seeing 12 videos of in-game footage and reading a full preview is hardly judging a book by it's cover. (Remember, they're typically trying to hype up the game in the previews, and if that's all there is to hype, then...yeah)

Obviously there's more to the game than just walking in a line, but that seems to make up about 80% of the gameplay. Being a fairly huge video game fan, who doesn't just buy games because of the brand names they slap on them, I honestly can't see the appeal of this game. This game doesn't offer any innovative or interesting gameplay, and as Mugenmidget said, it'll quickly become boring and repetative.

If they wanted to make a simple non-strategy 3rd person fighting game, then they should have tightened it up as much as possible. Multiple enemy, fast-paced battles typically keep me on the edge of my seat, and being DBZ, they could have gotten very creative with the fighting/flying system. You know, the types of fighting systems that are exciting even if you're just watching your friend play! Instead, what I see is a slow-paced and clunky looking game, with cookie cutter style gameplay.

PS - The graphics are about on par with N64 (as someone said earlier), this is sign number one of a very poor game.

This game looks like DBZ: Bid for power.
