Re: "Not 'til the fish jumps"
Well, if they think it's a stupid line, then they might have a problem with it. I haven't heard it, but it doesn't sound very funny... :/

Re: "Not 'til the fish jumps"
I guess you'd have to hear the delivery to get it, but being vegeta and Piccolo it makes it funiner.
here we go, I found it.

Re: "Not 'til the fish jumps"
I was aware of how both versions played out. I found the dub to be pretty funny. To me, it played on the following:
"It aint over till the fat lady sings" and "Jumping the shark". I always believed that is where whoever put that line in was going with at the time.

Re: "Not 'til the fish jumps"
I loved that line. In fact it's my favorite part of the entire Super Android 13 movie. Although complete silence does seem more in-character for them, The "not until the fish jumps" line was so out of left field that you can't help but laugh.
Re: "Not 'til the fish jumps"
I find the awkward silence between Piccolo and Vegeta funnier than the fish jumps line.

I don't even care if it's hilarious (and it isn't). Adding a line that wasn't there is unacceptable.

I'm assuming you're a sub fan then? They added TONS of lines in the show where the JP had silence.

Re: "Not 'til the fish jumps"
Trying to start a flame war are we? I think the line is funny. Who cares if the line wasn't there in the original? only sub fans of course. Why is it that sub fans are so picky over every detail. Just enjoy the show after all we all are here because we like the same series in some way, shape or form.penguintruth wrote:I don't even care if it's hilarious (and it isn't). Yes penguin is a sub fan that pretty much hates the dub pre-Kai.LeprikanGT wrote:I'm assuming you're a sub fan then? They added TONS of lines in the show where the JP had silence.

And why are you baiting him? That's hardly a flame worthy comment. He's expressing his opinion, just like you are. Your opinion is the line is funny and doesn't matter. His opinion is that adding in a line is unacceptable.

Re: "Not 'til the fish jumps"
Someone else would've anyways. I took it as a flame worthy comment as I'm pro-dub. I'm used to dubs adding in lines like Pokemon's dub has done before.Gaffer Tape wrote:And why are you baiting him? So... because you're a dub fan that means any negative comment about it is considered to be "inciting a flame war"?DB_Fan1991 wrote:I took it as a flame worthy comment as I'm pro-dub.
Anyway, I admit I found the line funny, but it is pretty stupid too, and I agree that adding in lines is "unacceptable." So I'm of two minds.

If it's for a line or a VA's performance that I like then yes it is.Gaffer Tape wrote:So... because you're a dub fan that means any negative comment about it is considered to be "inciting a flame war"?DB_Fan1991 wrote:I took it as a flame worthy comment as I'm pro-dub.

Re: "Not 'til the fish jumps"
With it having an awkward silence, I dont know why it was even there in the first place since that scene was SO far after the battle. Not having the lines to brighten it up seems more awkward and out of character to me.
Plus, it was Sabat talking to himself.

It made me laugh. Grant it sounded a little corny, but to where it was funny.
As I've said to everyone else who badmouths it, had that been in a Bugs Buny cartoon, you would've laughed or found it funny.penguintruth wrote:I don't even care if it's hilarious (and it isn't). Adding a line that wasn't there is unacceptable.

Re: "Not 'til the fish jumps"
I'm with you on this one. Normally I have a problem with dubs adding lines when there was silence anyway, but in this case I don't seem to care that much. But...I don't find it funny. Got no problem with other people finding it funny, but it doesn't do anything for me.TripleRach wrote:I constantly see people cite this as a hilarious dub change, but I cannot even fathom what about this is supposed to be funny. Re: "Not 'til the fish jumps"
I get a kick out of the line. I understand that it doesn't belong in a translation, but I don't take the Z English dub too seriously anyway; it would have been fine as a bonus outtake, or as part of a compilation of the voice actors goofing around with the footage.
Although it's not quite as bizarre as "Don't piss off the god of love."

Re: "Not 'til the fish jumps"
After the fighting had subsided and everybody else went home, Vegeta and Piccolo stayed behind at the battlefield to engage in witty banter about endings and the behavior of fish that indicate such endings.
This line is yet another reason why treating the old dub as a fan parody makes it more enjoyable/tolerable.

This line is a perfect example why I don't like the dub's re-versioned script; it ruins the show for me.
