Exactly, so I knew he was male from the start. Also noticed while heard a bit of feminity in va, sounded more reptillian/serpentine. Though with how some guys mentioned rumors they heard, I wonder if anyone thought they pulled a Zoicite on him for some reason.

The first time I've seen him, I already knew he was a guy but I agree that, he kind of looks like a female.

I don't recall being terribly concerned about it at any point, and just heard him called "he" in the show soon enough. Gotta wonder about those ball-stroking habits though...

Well in the anime, Freeza was being referred to long before we actually see him (by the space kids and whatnot), so I knew it was a he before actually seeing him. Then when I saw him, yeah he did look feminine, but you know what, whatever I knew it was a male. Lines like, "I want to caress them (Dragon Balls)" didn't help though.

I didn't even know about his fourth form for the longest time. From the Ocean dub stuff, I knew Freeza's first form and then circa-1998 I came across Dragon Ball GT: Final Bout (pretty rare, it was an English adaptation to Final Bout... one that I have now) and I saw the fourth form and it said "Freeza." So... I was pretty confused since no new episodes were coming out for a while. Anyway, the fourth form looks less feminine to me for some reason.

My first impression (initially the ocean cast in "season 2", then Linda Young in "Season 3") was that Freeza was Male, but I was fairly unsure, so paid special attention to dialog to make absolutely certain.

My cousin and sister still, despite having been told numerous times, tend to call Freeza a "she". I think my dad picked up on Freeza's male-ness based on dialog and such, though.

I thought he was a girl before I even saw him in the show. It wasn't until the article I was reading called him "he" that I realized it was a guy

Knew Freeza was a he from the start. Thought he was androgynous though. Sort of like the Goldust of the DBZ universe.

There's confusion as to whether or not Goldust is a guy? Damn marks. :P

Maybe he's only seen Goldust with his wig on? :P

When the character of Goldust was first intoduced, the gimmick was that he was androgynous.

I've never understood people thinking Freeza was female. I was first exposed to Freeza through Linda Young and just thought of him as a space lizard creature of sorts. The thought of female never even crossed my mind.

Suupaa Gohan 2 wrote:I also don't get how his final form is 'feminine'. Just because he's slender in comparison to the big bulky DBZ guys? He doesn't have a feminine curvature, he's just slim and sleek. I mean Hell, it's the only one of the four forms that doesn't involve any pink!! The only thing feminine about Freeza's appearance is the lips; people have just perpetuated the whole gay/female Freeza because of the dub decisions, unfortunately.
That's your opinion, but my first exposure to Freeza was through DBZ Ultimate Battle 22 and Final Bout. Needless to say, he wasn't referred to as "he" or "she". I thought his body looked feminine because it was sleek, slender and didn't register to me as masculine. Plus, as I said, the DBZ fansites I came across when I was a new fan referred to him as a female, which didn't help matters. And then there were the FUNimation dub clips scattered across the internet that used Linda Young's voice and didn't include "he" for Freeza. I didn't watch the anime before I found Freeza was male, and for a long time my only access to Dragon Ball was through UB22 and Final Bout.

I was 100% sure he was male.

Did anyone have the same problem I used to, that they always got mixed up with Marilyn Manson and Marilyn Monroe? Now, I'm perfectly sure that Marilyn Monroe is the attractive blonde actress and Marilyn Manson is the skinny androgynous singer.

But yeah, at that time, when I was 7 or 8, I didn't know much about androgyny.

I remember the days of playground past, when I was all alone in thinking that Freeza was a boy. Back then it seemed as though all of the worlds issues could be solved by a quick air Kamehameha  Me and my friend Jonathan would spend hours arguing/discussing all things DBZ and this one came up almost everyday. Eventually, we decided to settle the whole thing by hoping on the internet. I was a very happy 6 year old when the arguement was settled.

How I miss those simpler times...

I never did. He didn't have tits, so I knew he was a dude.
I wipe it off the tile, the light is brighter this time, everything is 3D blasphemy.
My eyes are red and gold, the hair is standing straight up, this is not the way I picture me.
I can't control my shakes, how the hell did I get here? Something about this, so very wrong.
I have to laugh out loud, I wish I didn't like this. Is it a dream or a memory?

He's a freaky alien genotype. You can't necessarily apply human characteristics to him when it comes to determining gender. As I recall, his first 3 forms had him wearing the same skintight undies a lot of his minions were seen with, implying a concealed package, but then his fourth form comes along and well...

In the English dub vegeta did call Freeza a she, it was the episode where vegeta steal the dragon from freeza.

We did, and she was called "No.18".
but 18 turned good after a while, I was talking about a pure evil villain.
What about Android 18 from Mirai Trunks timeline?

As for Freeza, I knew he was a "he" from the start. I just figured FUNimation attempted to give Freeza a menacing and evil voice like the JP version, but failed terribly at it. DBZ Kai did a little better job IMO.
