If a live action series were made, I rather it be one of those things where it's loosely based on certain B or C characters. I guess something like what "Birds of Prey" was to the Batman series. So basically, I'd like to see a series about Lunch before she met up with Goku and company!

First off I don't really think it would be possible to make a live action show. More important is why on Earth anyone would want one?

As was proven with DBE, a live action adaptation just can't be done. If you look at when DBE was released ('09), there should've been more care, faithfulness, and respect for the original manga material. The director that was chosen, as well as some of the actors' bad acting and butchering of what fans wanted to see, proved that Hollywood simply doesn't care about Dragon Ball at all.

The franchise is better suited to survive in fans' eyes via OVA-style projects and video games. Regardless of the mixed reactions towards 'Plan To Eradicate The Super Saiyans,' Dragon Ball is still alive and well. The same thing applies to Kai and its new appeal aimed towards new and old fans alike.

Getting back to DBE and Chatwin as Goku, though, I thought he actually did a good job. I don't know where the whole "Asian playing Goku" thing comes from, quite honestly. They could just translate the character's essence into english with a white actor. And, yes, Goku does look white.

God, DBE was awful, and I said it from the 1st announcement that it was a bad idea. DB just doesn't lend itself to live action.

The best thing I've seen is this:

and it only works because they picked people that look kinda normal.

Before even clicking the link I knew it was that video.

If a live-action was done like that, i'd be happy.

I don't think america should ever do a TV series on Dragonball but it would be sucessful series if it was made in Japan. Get a film director that knows about dragonball series from somewhere in Japan and get the right japanese actors to play as Goku, Bulma and many more. Akira Toriyama should get involved as the producer just like Stan Lee working on his Spiderman/X-men/Fantastic Four films.

I don't think just having it be made in Japan would be enough to make any live action DB attempt worthwhile. The ability to produce crap isn't uniquely American.

Well it was Fox's and James Wong's falut that DBE sucked. Fox had the rights to the series for five years and waited until the rights to the series where coming to end, and told James Wong to do anything that he wants with the project.

*facepalm*

NOooo~!! Kill it with acid~!!! I can't even conceive the idea... Why~!?!

I think if anyone was going to attempt to do a TV adaptation, it should be the Japanese. Why? Because they at least have a sense of respect for the author and the audience!! They try to follow the story/design/dialogue as much as possible even if it turns out into a cheese fest.

Just look at Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon. That series is 100x more over the top than DB yet they did a decent TV show, granted I didn't watch it, but... you know what, forget it NOONE should touch DB ever again. Anything made at this point is doujinshi to me and forget about Kai too, I want all my filler back. [though I wouldn't mind another anime season or more manga volumes by Toriyama]

If they DO make another movie, I hope it bombs even worse then the first one so they stop messing with the franchise.

Seen parts of it.... the evil Sailor Mercury thing was kinda cool. And seeing the girls do actual martial arts instead of just hiding behind their magic attacks was awesome.

What about Death Note live action movie did that movie do well in japan. I haven't seen the live action movie but seen the anime of death note and have no mangas on death note either. So does that mean that japanese filmmakers can't do well if they ever did a live action dragonball movie but I could see Yu-Gi-Oh! live action would be successful based on anime/manga and also the card game.

Shusuke Kaneko is a great director, and I think him doing a DBZ movie would be cool to see. Shusuke Kaneko's Gamera trilogy did kick some major ass though (Gamera 2 for example).

As long as you have people who know the series well and really care about it, it's always possible it could work out.

Keeping Goku in-character helps a lot too. That was my biggest gripe with DBE, how OOC he was.
On hiatus.

This sums it up. No matter what studio is in charge, they will ultimately screw up the whole concept.

It's... not actual news. A series has not been announced or anything. It's just a discussion of the idea.

What makes you think that? That would be like saying Batman Begins will suck because Batman & Robin sucked or the upcoming American Godzilla movie will suck because Godzilla 1998. I think James Wong and Fox where the main issue with DBE since Fox did not seem to care about the movie, James Wong appear not to be a fan of the series and did the movie for the money.

Well, The Birds of Prey TV series was loosely based on the Birds of Prey comic book. Though it'd be hilarious as a Great Saiyaman series based on the '60s Batman...

Speaking of Batman, WB are apparently thinking of making a TV series after Smallville, sort of based on Nolan's trilogy, and to cash in on the Ledger Joker... or reinvent the Joker, I dunno...

The thing with a Dragon Ball live action movie is finding someone who would love to direct it. Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, Godzilla, and Dracula are all icons and loved across worldwide since the chances are you will find a director or someone who is a big fan that would love to work on a movie based on those characters.

Sadly Dragon Ball is not one of them, and most movie directors will view Dragon Ball as a joke.
