Re: What's Your Favourite Season of DBZ
I'm not sure which FUNimation "Season" is my favorite, but my favorite arc would be a tie between the Namek arc and the 23rd Tenka-ichi Budokai.
Reasoning: Freeza is one of the best villains in the entire series, in my opinion, and as for the 23rd Budokai, I really liked Goku VS Piccolo, and not to mention Goku's "proposal" to Chi-Chi. Goku was so silly, even as a young adult.

So mondo lame.

Ignoring all of the silliness over Funimation inserting the term "Season" into Dragonball jargon, I might actually have to go against the grain and say the Boo arc, if only for all of it's good ideas. At first I thought it would be Cell due it's being the twistiest arc, but apparently not.
I like Gohan's ultimate fate as a socially inept high-schooler (As that is what he would naturally become the second Goku leaves his life), Super Sayain 3 acknowledgment of it's own absurdity, Boo's core concept as a pink, chocolate-hogging destroy of worlds and Kid Boo being Goku's fantasy-gone-wrong just as Goku admits that he can't fight em all, Vegeta finally getting some character that doesn't involve Goku, etc.
There were just so many execution bugs, namely absorbtion's being too convenient and the Potara earring's existence.

Looking at it that way, Boo certainly is the Staypuft the Marshmallow Man of Dragonball.BlazingFiddlesticks wrote:Ignoring all of the silliness over Funimation inserting the term "Season" into Dragonball jargon, I might actually have to go against the grain and say the Boo arc, if only for all of it's good ideas. I really like the Boo arc in manga form, but I can't really say much for it in anime form. I'll get back to you on that after the DBox finishes and I've seen all of it.

Oddly, I don't think I even read a whole volume of the Boo Arc in manga form!

If we're going by story arcs, then the Boo arc. To me, it's the constant power-upping taken to the logical conclusion. Everyone is scared to death; there's hardly any of the arrogance we've seen in earlier arcs. The fear on everyone's faces when Super Boo reaches the lookout is powerful. For once, with the exception of Gotenks or Vegetto, barely anyone's bragging about how good they are; the stakes have gotten too high.
As for dubbed seasons, I'd have to say 3 and 4. I laugh every time Vegeta opens his mouth.

Id have to say the Cell arc, which would equate to Season 4 for Toonami and I believe Seasons 4-6 for the Bricks o' Orange. It resonates for me because it featured the first villians I saw on anything DB that weren't aliens. Plus The Legacy of Goku II was and is my favorite GBA game, ever.
"Perfect" is the enemy of the good. True for Cell and true for real life.
Don't forget to slow down and enjoy yourself.

The Boo arc is my absolute favorite out of the entire Dragon Ball metaseries. I guess if you had to assign a Funimation season set to that, it'd be ... eight?
But aside from the admittedly irritating ass-pull that is the Potara earrings, I love just about everything it has to offer. BlazingFiddlesticks hit most of the positive points I agree with up there. It's just the point of the series at which the shit completely hits the wall, and does so with wild abandon. I also think the anime version has some of Kikuchi's finest work on the series.

Namek Arc. Rewatching it and i think its the most incredible arc. After this, the writing took a nosedive as did the fights. SSJ kinda made everyone useless whereas on Namek Piccolo and Krillin got epic battles. Plus the fights are still about tactics especially when Vegeta played this chess match with Frieza across the planet. And the whole three way race for the dragonballs embodied the entire show. Plus i loved Zarbon and the Ginyus. So goofy yet turn badass at the blink of an eye. Except Guldo. I wish Frieza wasnt dispatched so easily by Trunks. should have been a three episode battle. Goku and Trunks vs Mecha Frieza and Cold. The writing is top notch. At least in Kai and the manga, the pacing was excellent and every character developed. even the villains. That said, it would have been a shame to miss out on the androids even if it was stupid that robots and a fat pink blob could be stronger than the ruler of the universe. The fights were also more brutal and the ki blasts actually tore the planet apart instead of making tiny craters and blowing up mountains instead of trucks.
Simian upstart...none surpass me. No one even comes close! BURN THIS INTO YOUR MIND! I am emperor of the universe. The likes of you are only fit to grovel at my feet. Or better still...to be crushed...LIKE AN INSECT AT THE WHIM OF YOUR MASTER!

For clarification's sake, Eight and Nine are what you're looking for. Nine in particular being Gotenks -> 28th Budokai. I forget what Eight is, only that it has Babidi. Which would imply that Season Seven was something like Other World Tournament (Not even going to try to spell AIB) + Saiyaman + Tournament, which is the weird set of episodes to make a set of.Cipher wrote:The Boo arc is my absolute favorite out of the entire Dragon Ball metaseries. Re: What's Your Favourite Season of DBZ
Since there was some confusion from the OP's use of the word season, here is the breakdown to make things easier:
Season 1 = Saiyan Saga (and very beginning of Namek stuff)
Season 2 = Namek & Ginyu Force
Season 3 = Freeza
Season 4 = Garlic Jr., Trunks, Androids
Season 5 = Imperfect & Perfect Cell
Season 6 = Cell Games
Season 7 = Otherworld Tournament, Great Saiyaman, & World Tournament
Season 8 = Babidi & Majin Buu
Season 9 = Fusion Saga (Super Buu) & Kid Buu
Having done all of that, my favorite from Z is Season 3 circa 1999. That would be the original, first, horribly dubbed season. Why? Pure nostalgia (and I love the Faulconer score for that season, which has not changed over time despite my perspective on the dub's overall quality changing dramatically).
My favorite reasonably good season is Season 9. By then, the dub voices were all pretty much at the right place, and while the script was hit-or-miss in terms of accuracy and overall quality, it was decent.
