Did they? I'll need a source, please. :D

I think that's all in your head. I haven't seen anybody suddenly start singing a different tune. The people saying they weren't fans of DBKai from the start... probably weren't fans of DBKai from the start.

I adored "Ossu!"; especially bored-out-of-his-mind Goku trying to deal with peaceful life. Personally, I'd be thrilled to see something where he tries to go off and seek out adventure and new challenges now that they're no longer looking for him. Goku would find a way to rope Vegeta into coming along (maybe Piccolo as well) and humorous/excitement would ensue. :3
Well, that's what I'd want to watch anyway.... ^^;;

Or they could always pull from some of the DBO storyline. The Adventures of Time Patrol Trunks? You could skip all over the map if you focus on him; even bring on the original cast for certain arcs.

I will be fine with a 4th series if they get the right people behind it and do something more original with the series. Yeah GT sucked but that was 13 years ago back in 1997. Times has change and I think Toei on their own could do a great job on a 4th series depending on the creatived team behind it.

:?: I have no idea what you're trying to say, here. Anyway, the point I'm making is that nobody ever said DBKai was being canceled. I'm willing to bet they never planned to go past the Cell arc.

I think it would be nice if they remade the series into a series of movies similar what they are doing with Evangelion. Remaking Movies 1-13 with new animation and better stories could work, but I think people are tried of the same old thing. I think there is enough room in the Dragon Ball universe that they could make stories of off. A movie based off the villain that steal alway Elder Kaioshin into the Z-sword might be a good idea.

At least they didn't drop the series in a middle of a fight. I mean in all honesty the Cell arc could be considered an acceptable and satisfying ending...
I have a Dragon Ball collection of sorts which can be seen here.

Well, it's arguably better than Goku flying off with some random poor kid...

Here's what I think:
  • - Dragon is an old series that ended 20+ years ago. There's no new content to add except for occasional specials ((And how many we've got so far?!)). Compared to the current hotness that surpassed Dragon Ball and they still have new content. And that's why, they keep their consumers interested.

    - Based on the first point, the market got over-saturated with the same products over and over again, from video games to figures. The general consumers got sick of having the same things with no-to minimum changes between each other, and that made them lose interest ((Like me)). That implies to FUNimation as well with over-saturating the markets with numerous releases in many different formats and version.

The center piece of the DB meta world has always been the manga/anime and the rest of the franchise has been riding on the profitable aftershock for almost 20 years now. You can only milk the cow for so long. Let the poor thing rest.

So yeah, I agree with those that believe that if they want to revive the franchise they need to bring in new material. I've been hoping for a new DB movie a la strong world for a while now and I'm not giving up yet. As for a new series like GT, to be perfectly honest, I don't think that would be such a great idea. Mainly because lately Toei has been animating on the cheap and severly so (they ruined the "Rescue Ace war arc" for me  ) and if the new series would look anything like "the plan to eradicate the saiyans" special, I'd rather they not do anything at all. It would only hurt the franchise more.

So wether I like it or not, for now, I think the fate of the DB world lies on the shoulders of DBO. Although it brings some interesting concepts or ideas, I don't really like that DB legend would continue with a story that build to accomadate game play.

I wouldn't say it's over. Popular franchises will never stay dead. More than likely, this is the start of a break from the huge onslaught of media/products being released. Which means that once another major anniversary rolls around, we'll probably see some more new stuff (I'm hoping for some actual new stories similar to Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas/the various Fist of the North Star spinoffs) and/or video games, and the series will be back in the spotlight again for a while.

Hopefully, a break of a couple years or more will convince these video game companies that you can't stay on top with the same basic game every year. Fans want something new.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

What worries me is that there's not much time left to get new things from Dragonball. These voice actors are getting old, folks. I fear the day when Masaka Nozawa passes on. :( I don't want her being replaced. I can atleast put up with Sean for an American dub because he's what English Goku is to me. But as for Japanese Goku, nobody can replace Masaka Nozawa.

I hope so. As others have mentioned the "new releases" have overall just become a giant onslaught of retread boring shit. (Then again looking at that Goku and his friends special maybe that's for the best.) If this series becomes nothing but mundane DVD releases every so often it would be a blessing in my book.

I'm worried about this too. :(
Masako Nozawa is 75 years old after all. If they wait until DB's next major anniversary she'll be pushing 80.

Is the franchise over? There is no way to know. You can't really know until the end of time. A franchise isn't dead until the last thing released for it is discontinued. It is definitely on a break, with Zenkai Battle Royale and DBO the only real things to look forward to. Yes, the Kai airings on Nicktoons and the CW will have to run their course, and then, who knows. Then there are the other international dubs that have to air. Maybe if those are profitable in their the respective nations, they will all go to Toei and say, "Look. Our dubs of Kai is doing real well, so can we pay you to finish off the show?" Though I don't know what channels the dubs are airing, and whether those channels are major broadcast networks (like Fuji TV and the CW) or just some premium cable/satellite channel (like Nicktoons), so anything could happen. I know I have the whole manga in VizBig form, so I'll be content for a while.
"Perfect" is the enemy of the good. True for Cell and true for real life.
Don't forget to slow down and enjoy yourself.

Burst Limit only went up to the Cell saga, IIRC.

Well, for now DB has Zenkai Battle Royale, Online, and Heroes - all three look to be really fun games. But yeah, those are only video games. If Toei did Kai ala they did New HnK movies or like how that one studio did FMA: Brotherhood, we might not be having this thread.
