A funny little irony just hit me...

Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

I think most companies would of done the franchise justice, ADV for example:

ADV sublicensed Saint Seiya (A show that would hit the same target market as DBZ) from Dic, and made their own dub from the ground up that unlike the butchered "Knights of the Zodiac" dub, is actually extremely faithful to the original.

The series has done well enough direct to DVD that ADV is going to release the whole 114 episode run, while the americanized "Knights of the Zodiac" has ceased production still early in the story, also goes to show that americanizing something wont necessicarily make it succeed.

Look at the Gundam Wing dub, possibly one of the most popular dubs of any series, mostly because they kept true to the original dialogue. In fact, I think funimation would actually sell more if they did this, because then both the casual and hardcore viewer would be interested.
Dragon Ball Z is immensely popular, so it doesn't really matter what FUNimation does to it. Although there are many changes, the story is virtually the same.

As for your other comment about being close to the original, I've heard good things about the other productions that FUNimation has been working on. I heard Fullmetal Alchemist is very good. I also liked what I saw of Fruits Basket. If you ask me, FUNimation is becoming one of the better distributers of anime out there.

ADV isn't always that great a company either. :?

Their voice actors make me cringe in so many different places.
