I like the dub too, however for the last several years I've only known the dub, but now that I've experienced the original- I enjoy both, but like the original script far better.

He is mentioned in the Buu Saga......

"Wow, I haven't heard of anyone being sliced in half since Trunks beat Freeza"-Goku
When was this?
I would like to find out as well.

I actually do remember hearing that quote as well. I watch the dub, so it could easily not be in the original version. I don't remember the exact part in the Buu saga where Goku says it, but he does.

I do.

All he was doing was answering the question that this thread is based around.

He said it when Gohan was fighting Boo, and Goku was watching with the three ki's.
I remember. And that was said in the English dub.

But I have to agree that if it's not said in the original dialog, then it
just wasn't said to begin with.

....Just my opinion mind you.

I'm almost positive that the quote in question was said by Goku while watching the Gotenks and Buu fight. It's after Gotenks uses the Galactic Donut attack to cut Buu in half.

Ok, we've established that it probably was said in the dub, now lets establish that it means nothing.

I don't speak Japanese, either. I'm perfectly capable of watching the show in Japanese, though. That's what that Japanese audio track with subtitles is for.

And it does matter a whole lot. What you hear in the English dub isn't necessarily the same thing that's actually being said in the Japanese version. I don't know jack about Star Wars, so this is a really weird analogy for me to use, but if Darth Vader happened to say "Luke, I am your uncle!" in a Japanese dub of the movie... that doesn't mean he's the uncle. It means the line is incorrect, and shouldn't be taken seriously.
My popint remains, he is still mentioned by atleast someone.

& acttually the scene was when Gotenks sliced Buu in half with the splitting headache attack.

What "point" ?

You've listed a completely inaccurate and irrelevant quote from a reversioning of the series. It means absolutely nothing. You've ignored the logic behind what I stated, and simply reiterated your own statement. That's not a "point"; that's being stubborn.

I'm not being anti-dub; I'm being logical. It doesn't matter what the dub says, in what fasion, at what point, and what you think of it. It's not necessarily true, and in this case it's definitely NOT true.

Furthermore, please re-read the forum rules. There are strict rules concerning grammar in place, and they're there for a reason. Thank you for understanding.

Just because Funi isn't the original Anime, that doesn't mean that everything said is irrellivant. My point is that a version of DB remembered Trunks & that is what the topic is asking.

Actually, it DOES mean it's irrelevant. It's not Dragonball, it's DUB Dragonball. They're rewriting a show and overwriting things that were already in place. There have been several instances where they put in flat-out incorrect information.

Their mention of Trunks in the Buu saga was probably meant to sound like this: "Wow, I haven't heard of anyone being sliced in half since Trunks beat Freeza! Remember to buy his action figure!"

I'm not dub bashing (oddly enough), but you can't claim the dub has factual information unless it's in the original.

Have it been confirmed that the line in question was or was not in the original version? If not, then what was said instead? (I don't have any of the Buu saga DVDs, so I can't just go and see for myself)

Whether people like it or not, the dub is a part of Dball. I am not reffering to Dub DB, I am reffering to DB, it is DB, stop called it "Dub DB", it is no different from any other version, nothing is changed in there, it's not like they made it so that Krillin is stronger than Mystic Gohan.

I beg to differ. "This was created by your father, the brilliant scientist" comes to mind.

Besides, didn't you say you don't watch the original because you can't speak Japanese? How would you know what's changed then?

FUNimation has subbed DVDs, so if "not knowing Japanese" is a problem, there's your solution :P

Perfect example. And let's not forget...

"Five and a half!" (granted, which was changed to "Four and a half!" in the redub)

"You just wait 'till it grows back!"

"I get it... HE'S the one who killed my grandfather!"

These things aren't suddenly fact just because FUNimation says so. Take it or leave it, dammit. This is getting asinine.

The Saiyan Saga was a messed up Dub, that's why it's being re-dubbed

With essentially the same damn script, down to the same corny jokes.

You've got your concept of the original completely wrong kid. Through out the course of the series, FUNimation has consistently changed every inch of dialogue, and on top of that they eliminated fact, for fallacy.

You may not want to believe, but Volume 1 of the redub is about 90% the same as it had been back when Pioneer published the episodes, for FUNi.
Trunks Master Swordsman03 wrote:it is no different from any other version, nothing is changed in there
Like Domon said, rich irony. It's so funny it has to be bad for my health...

...Nothings changed is it? I am going to make a small stab at this one, so bear with me.
  • Original Name / FUNi Name
    Kinto'un / Flying Nimbus
    Runch / Launch
    Kuririn / Krillin
    Gyuu Maou / Ox King
    Nyoibou / Power Pole
It's just not a question of things being changed, but why they changed things... I can see them not using 'Nyoibou' for Power Pole, or Kinto'un for flying Nimbus [but still, what sort of names are power pole, and Nimbus?] but names like Launch, and Krillin... it's just wasn't necessary.

Actually I think they kept that. I don't even remember them referring to the Nyoibou in Dragonball Z, but in the Dragonball dub it's called Nyoibou. The only time I've heard it referred to as 'Power Pole' is in Budokai 3.
