LOST IN-BETWEEN-PAGES POSTS AGAIN!!
SHINOBI-03 wrote:FUNimation's older releases used to be released to work on Region 2 players, but they dropped it and now they are only for regions 1 and 4.

The only way to get an English DVD release is by importing FUNimation releases. To watch them, you could either get a multi-region player, hack your own player, or buy an external DVD drive for you computer/laptop and hook it to your TV.

Exactly, that's why i didn't count that one.
But as Puto pointed out, there was a release by Salvat that had the Portuguese dub only of Dragon Ball. The advertising on those were so good that i only learned of them after joining the forum...
Puto wrote:Only the old, way out-of-print DVD release by Salvat, and only for the original DB, not for Z. And no JP audio. Oh, and they look so bad that they make the original FUNi singles look gorgeous by comparison.

The current Spanish sets don't have the Portuguese dub anymore, but they DO have the JP audio, and they are based on the Dragon Box footage (including stuff like next-episode-previews), so they no longer look like garbage. I got some of them myself. Pretty neat.
I believe the first time i ealized that Goku's gi wasn't red was either at the 23rd Budokai or starting in Z

I actually wanted to collect all the series in the Spanish sets' format....but i quickly found out that they're not only out of print, but close to being out of stock everywhere. There are still some singles, the first DB box and the second GT box but that's it. I only managed to get the 3 Movies and Specials sets and they're great.

But right now for the average European fan of the Japanese version....it's pretty much FUNimation's game. Not because they keep re-releasing stuff...but because everything is STILL in print. (not quite the case with Selecta Vision)
Only the old DB boxsets had portugese audio anyways.

Even though Manga do release release Viz properties like Naruto and Bleach in the UK I get the impression from them that ultimately they're not willing to take the risk of putting out a long series like Dragonball.
They behave the same with One Piece.
The only thing they ever seem to say at the London Expo when asked about DB is that Toei are awkward to negotiate with.

Although considering they seem to have problems releasing One Piece too could it be a Funimation issue?
I'm only speculating on that though...

I think that the UK got the worst end of this whole thing. Not only do other countries have very nice releases, but it was pretty prominent in the UK. I don't know how it was in Germany or a middle Eastern country (or whatever other dubs and releases there were for them), but in the UK it was on just like in the US, every day on Toonami. It really sucks. Not only did the UK fans go from a very well-made Saiyan Conflict and Namek Saga with Ocean, but they went to the debatable FUNimation in-house dub, only to go back to the Ocean dub except the ultra cheap ass version of it where everything was rushed, had terrible directing, and the music was complete garbage. If there is an Ocean release, I'd get it in a heartbeat only because I am really interested to see what they did with it over there.

But other than that, I think it absolutely sucks and there should be some sort of petition or something to FUNimation.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in Europe, or at least most parts of Europe, FUNimation doesn't own the rights to Dragon Ball Z, AB Groupe does.

Well okay, true. So they should be getting petitions. I don't know how FUNimation got Australia, but they should try to branch out. Maybe when AB Groupe's rights come up for expiration.

Manga keep giving the impression that Funimation have some kind of rights for the show in the UK too.
It's such a bizarre situation. It seriously can't be that difficult to release the show anymore considering it's been in box set format for years now. The bottom line is I think Manga just can't be bothered with the show.
I guess they just like ignoring ways to make big money.
It's odd because at every con I've been to they get asked for Dragonball too so there is a market and they know it.
They used to be an awesome company but once they were bought out by Starz Media the passion just died.

Manga and anime are completely different things with rights and owners. As manga is original and rights on it posses Shueisha, anime is propriety of TOEI + TV show and Movie rights are much more expensive then manga.

We're not talking about the manga. That's been out over here for years.
We're discussing the situation with the anime and it's lack of a home release in the UK.
Many other countries in the world don't seem to have a problem with releasing it.

Dude, more power to ya. I'm gonna try and do the same :P

Get FUNimation's Dragon Boxes and then the Dragon Ball and GT sets whenever they get released in the uk lol

EDIT: Turns out MangaUK has confirmed NOT to be releasing Dragon Ball Z in the UK...in some somewhat insulting tweets, no less.
