Wow, that's pretty intriguing, actually. Maybe Vegeta would have a Sakyo-like role, but with a hidden ulterior motive.

Well Freeza was going to play the Sakyo type role, with Vegeta being the disgraced underling trying to get back at his master, like Iago in Othello. Also Captain Ginyu would play the Toguro type role, while Piccolo would be a Genkai to Gohan with North Kai as a sort of Koenma.
Also no over the top zenkais, so the humans can play a bigger role.
