Yeah, this is what I've been thinking as well. They'd be stupid to let this actually pass.
You're right. They would have to stupid. And it still may pass.

But yeah, if this law passes, it'll be hell for the internet. It may even spell the death of many of our favorite websites, possibly even Daizex. The part that disturbs me most is the whole jail thing. If what Gonstead said is true, then many people and groups like TFS or LK could be in jail for life. I just hope this bill dies where it is right now so the people working with this bill don't get any ideas.

Even if it passes, people would be so outraged that it would be taken down eventually. People still have common sense.

Well I was thinking that all those things were related to DB stuff, but I guess gameplay would also be included in that criteria.

It would include DB gameplay type videos, but also any other type of gameplay videos.

It seems that now Microsoft and Apple are on board of supporting this bill along with Nintendo. This all began as bill S.798 and has been blown into something worst.

The scary thing is that videos like this would probably get "censored" if this new act was in place right now. And I don't mean videos encouraging people to take action against this particular movement, I mean videos trying to influence a mass amount of people to do something against the will of the sick weirdoes that spawned this preposition in the first place.

Well pretty much, but considering that, this bill has no chance. I mean, they can't just infringe upon the constitution......... can they? :?

You are aware that if this goes through, they will try to force it upon Europe and elsewhere? Just like they did when they made file sharing of copyrighted material punishable by law.

I thought Prime was getting at the fact that scanlations going away wouldn't be such a bad thing, especially for DB.

This is true. If this law passes in the U.S. I can imagine the Canadian government doing the same thing shortly after this bill were to pass. And, it would only be a matter of time until other regions of the world followed the United States.

This video is very informative about what SOPA is all about.

I'm pretty sure this law already applies to North Korea and Iran, if I'm not mistaken.

ThatGuyWithTheGlasses.com is all over this internet censorship thing, too. Doug posted a fake Nostalgia Critic review where it's really an alert about SOPA.

So on one side we have Mozilla, Facebook, Google, Twitter, eBay and Yahoo who don't support vs Microsoft, Apple, Nintendo, EA and Sony who do support.

Interesting.

While it's mostly off-topic, I think this thread is worth keeping open for now, because this clearly is something that could affect this site and the Dragon Ball community at large. I read a lot of political and technology news, and I've been keeping up with versions of this bill for a long time (here's something I wrote about it a year ago, which is mostly still relevant now). You can find a bunch of different articles for and against (but mostly against) the current bill here:

http://news.cnet.com/8301-1023_3-573261 ... raws-fire/

A lot of you keep saying this is too ridiculous to pass, but frankly I think that's being naive. The MPAA, RIAA, etc, have been lobbying Congress about this for a long time, with arguments like, "The evil foreign sites are taking money from American companies and stealing American jobs." Both parties have long shown support for stronger internet copyright laws (I think Joe Biden once compared downloading to violent robbery), so it's not even a Democrats vs Republicans thing. And the public at large is only just now discovering this, so Hollywood has a big head-start.

As for how this affects Dragon Ball, all it takes is a complaint to shut a website down. Some random jerk who hates the way Mike pronounces "Saiyan" could complain about DaizEX, and bam. And even if he had an opportunity to defend himself, DaizEX is associated with a lot of things of questionable legal quality (fan translations (even just scripts are unlicensed derivatives), AMVs, unreleased/rare music, etc). Same thing with all the clips, images, and translations hosted on Kanzentai.

I admit that I'm not the most neutral person to talk about this bill, but I think this is pretty scary stuff.

I agree with you on that 100%. This bill actually is pretty likely to pass, which is why everybody is making such a deal about standing up for it.
