AB Group and history with Europe (Anyone know the details?)

Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

I'm pretty sure that was intentionally replaced in the portuguese dub, and not due to lack of materials.

And for the last 2 endings decide "Meh, we'll just leave them in japanese as-is"?......Yeah, that sounds about right, the lazyness has to shine through somehow :P (First contact with japanese music until Rurouni Kenshin the next year, so I'm kinda thankful for that lazyness lol)

The music soundtrack is all the same to those dub versions (French, Portuguese and Spanish), so you're probably referring to their voices.

But nevertheless, it's a really interesting product since it contains the original Japanese audio and three dubs.

It's this one: http://static.cdcovers.cc/e99311bc87b9b ... -front.jpg

I'd love to get my hands on just this first volume. Sangofe, is volume one with the Portuguese dub only?

Eire @ Japanese dub? :?
Of course I was referring to the voices... I would have said background music if not, and the voices is part of the sound you know. And they are absolutely not apart on ancient dvds. Also, only volume 1 got ever released. Why do you think I called it rare?

For sure lol. Except Toei ended up coming out with the Dragon Boxes and made the killing (and where's the AB Group at this point?)
sangofe wrote:Also, one more information: DBGT got broadcasted in Spain before France, and I think it actually got in Portugal as well. I know Spain had the next episode previews of DBGT dubbed, but that never happened in France. For DBGT they originally intended to have it put up on TF1, but for some reason that fell through, so they didn't use the DBGT opening Bernard Minet sung, which is a shame, because it was hilariously strange. "Dragonball GT, Dragonball GT, notre héros au grand coeur, il n'a pas peur de la meur~~~~~" Stupid lyrics like "DBGT, DBGT, our hero with a big heart, he's not afraid of dyin'." I'd have to re-listen to the song in order to get those lyrics right, lol.
That's totally weird, since we were getting the source material from over there.....or maybe that's a testament to how much these two dubs were rushed for broadcast....
Totally got dubbed GT previews on TV here as well, and before the ending animation no less. Oh...uhm...and...
"GT, Dragon Ball GT warrior,
Hero, you will always be first one
To fight away
The forces of evil, Son Gokuuuu" (At least the music itself was still "Dan Dan")

Oh, wow. I'm guessing they just release that first volume, then? And was it just in France? (despite the 2 dubs unrelated to target audience? lol)
AB lost the right to distribute and sell Dragonball DVDs, which is the reason they hurried with the releases of Dragonball and Dragonball Z, but they've got a few of the TV rights still. That's where they're at. That first DBGT volume was only released in France, and it was dis continued , yes.

It's a video of more than 2 hours, I don't like his voice xD.
I am spanish but I haven't time to translate this, because it's toooo huge.
It looks it only talks about the spanish version, but no, it talks about all that came from AB, the french, spanish from spain, portuguese, Valencian, Catalan, gellego...

Thanks for the like Ray.

The guy's got a nice soft voice, yep, he doesn't only talk about the Castellano, Valenciano, Catalán and the other Spanish versions but also Portugal's Portugal and English dub (and also its original Japanese audio). It would've been nice to have included Bola de Drac Z Kai too, but Drac Z Kai only came out this year recently.

Since it's available for download, I'll take it, and it's only 331MB. :P

Thanks! This is exactly the kinda stuff I was looking for. I feel like that board on the bottom of the page, along with Songofe's posts earlier, really say it all :D

I gotta admit, I only really watched the first part that was more informative and checked out the scene comparisons, that were great. That board really is a great summary of all that

This is only concerning the DBGT French dub, I saw this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4Fm3ZNvrpw and I find it hard to believe it's their actual dub song.

It's so pop-ish, isn't there a more precise DBGT OP dubbed in French than this?

After looking through some other videos and comments...it seems like it is? (Sangofe, this is what you were telling us about earlier right?)
Matches up to who is being credited that Sangofe was saying (Bernard Minet) and...uh...I recognize parts of lyrics from what was used in the portuguese opening....(I'm guessing they read the lyrics, thought they were fine, but when they listened to the song they deemed it as the line they wouldn't cross?)

Is there a separate french closing to go with that opening?

Blue Water's English dub opening is rather disappointing too.

Here is the French GT opening that was never used:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CN4xwC0BZBw

And here are the translated lyrics:

Code: Select all

Dragon Ball GT
Dragon Ball GT
Son Goku versus evil
Dragon Ball GT
Dragon Ball GT
The conquest of an ideal
To find the new crystal balls!
Through the whole universe
He goes up against the greatest of dangers
The hero with a big heart
The winner doesn't know death!
Wai!
Dragon Ball GT
Dragon Ball GT
Courage and friendship!
Dragon Ball GT
Dragon Ball GT
Stronger than eternity!
So that liberty will forever rule!
Through the whole universe
He goes up against the greatest of dangers
The hero with a big heart
The winner doesn't know death!
Dragon Ball GT
Dragon Ball GT
Son Goku versus evil
Dragon Ball GT
Dragon Ball GT
The conquest of an ideal
To find the new crystal balls!
Through the whole universe
He goes up against the greatest of dangers
The hero with a big heart
The winner doesn't know death!
Wai!
Dragon Ball GT
Dragon Ball GT
Courage and friendship!
Dragon Ball GT
Dragon Ball GT
Stronger than eternity!
So that liberty will forever rule!
Through the whole universe
He goes up against the greatest of dangers
The hero with a big heart
The winner doesn't know death!
Dragonball GT!

And no, I don't know about a french dub closing song.
