That's the point.NeoKING wrote:Not sure if any of you are aware of this or not, but the letter "Z" is pronounced "Zed" in some countries, like the UK and the Caribbean Islands.
For example the word schedule is pronounced differently in UK and US.
UK: Xé-jule
US: Ské-due-l
Me: Xé-jule (UK) > Ské-due-l (US)
Anywho, there's a video game called "Zed", here it is: http://www.thatvideogamesite.com/play.php?id=92
FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray
Re: Dragon Ball Zee vs Dragon Ball Zed
Then, to be frank I really don't see the point. If we know that some countries pronounces Z/Zed differently, what more is there to discuss? Some countries do, some don't. Not trying to be an that one thread jerk that's always putting things bluntly, but I really don't see the point.Pokewhiz7 wrote:I think that was kinda the entire purpose of this thread.NeoKING wrote:Not sure if any of you are aware of this or not, but the letter "Z" is pronounced "Zed" in some countries, like the UK and the Caribbean Islands.

Re: Dragon Ball Zee vs Dragon Ball Zed
Actually, there's a reason why I started this thread, I was curious to how different people will call Dragon Ball Z, well DBZ Zee or Zed and also hear others opinion on the matter. As you can see, most Americans didn't know that Zee is pronounced Zed in this thread. I was also curious to see if people agreed if Zed is closest to Zetto in terms of translation. It's a fairly new discussion, I never saw any of this topic that are like this before and I thought it have a nice, intelligent conversation without having to bash on dubs and such.NeoKING wrote:Then, to be frank I really don't see the point. We say 'Zed' here because we were taught English by the British since the colonization in the 19th century.

Zee. Simply because in New Zealand, thats how we roll, plus the Narrator of the series calls it such
Oh, you think the Grand Tour is your ally, you merely stepped into the Grand Tour. I was born in it, moulded by it. I didn’t see the Super until I was already a man; by then, it was nothing to me but blinding!

Re: Dragon Ball Zee vs Dragon Ball Zed
For me, it's Zed because it's closer to Zetto and because in "We Gotta Power" it's called Zed.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Re: Dragon Ball Zee vs Dragon Ball Zed
I say Zee as I'm an American. And when I hear "zed", I think of him:

Re: Dragon Ball Zee vs Dragon Ball Zed
My first instinct upon seeing previews for the show was "Zet" (as in the Dutch pronunciation). Cue more than a decade of "DRAGON BALL ZEEEEEEEE" and you kind of change your mind on that. I don't know anybody who says anything else than "Zee" unless they're speaking Japanese.

Re: Dragon Ball Zee vs Dragon Ball Zed
When I speak danish I say 'Zet/Zed', cause that's how we pronounce the letter Z in Denmark, but when I speak english I just say 'Zee'.
As I understand it, that's the standard for almost any name that has an english equivalent fx, Brian, Frederik, Erik and many more.

Re: Dragon Ball Zee vs Dragon Ball Zed
In England we pronounce the letter Z as 'zed', but for Dragonball Z we pronounce it as 'zee' as the Americans do, it just sounds right. Although if I were to refer to the show as 'DBZ' I would then say the Z as zed.

Nobody here in England pronounced it "Dragonball Zed" besides ignorant parents. Even though Zed is more common here in UK the show was always referred to as "Zee" by anyone who watched it.
