lost_in_thought had a good suggestion, so I've passed it along to Josh. He's not online a whole lot, so that's the best I can do right now.

Sorry if it seems like I'm shrugging everyone off, but I've got AnimeNext in less than two weeks. In case anyone actually doesn't know, I run the AMV contest and many panels. It's panic-time, right now :D.

It's not that I don't care, but you guys just aren't a priority, right now :).
Geee, thanks Mike. XP And lost had a good idea? Hell hath frozen over!

But ya, it's not like this is too big of a problem so it's not really a rush to fix it. And while I may not have ever run anything at a con, I know what it's like to being too much at one time. XD *sells Mike a clonning machine for $5*

Anyway, after reading over the 'statement' this guy made, I'm not even sure it was ever anyone on the board. Sounds like the guy was just looking for random places that he could hack. :?

'Tis sad that many geniuses in this world like to use their prowess to pull stupid, annoying "pranks" like this. I know this one really tech-savvy guy who knows how to hack, but he uses his knowledge to program games and such.

We must use our powers for good, not evil. I know, the line is old, but so is the first episode of Dragonball, 20 years next February.

I'm not sure what you're looking at... I still see the Angel of Death image, the noob language sympathizations, and the Arabian text.

Harhar, I was helpful!!
And I am pretty sure that which I suggested is all that could be wrong, as I looked at the index source, and it seems like the "hacker(s)" in question kind of just injected their markup among the normal overall_header code, so you shouldn't have much difficulty mending it, or having it mended. If it turns out this isn't the case, I can definitely look into it further and give more suggestions.
One thing that works well, if you can't find the problem though, is to just re-upload the entire forum software, short of the installer. That should do the trick, either way.

Possible, but I am not entirely sure that is the case, unless you get a really bored hacker/exploiter. It's been my experience that people usually deface forums, and other peoples websites, if the owner pissed them off in one way or another, thereby making the owner, and his site a target for said defacement. I could imagine that someone who was banned recently came back for revenge, or someone who got slapped with a "type properly" post, in his/her introduction just decided to get even with Mike for it.
Then again, I could be wrong.

I'm under the impression it's just one of those generic (as Julian's so appropriately put it) "script kiddies," and they have absolutely nothing to do with this site, or even DB in general. They just seek out phpBBs that haven't been upgraded to the latest software, and do whatever they Hell they can do.

Which in this case is very little, since they're not actually "crackers" in any sense of the word. No actual data's been lost, if you'll notice. It's just a minor annoyance, if even that.

And by the way, all foreign script kiddies... remember that half of us didn't vote for Bush, and we don't always inherently agree with the way our country is run, what our country does both internally and externally, and certainly have differing opinions on war. Jesus Christ. If you're so internationally minded, you're fucking idiots for not getting this through your head.

Still waiting for Josh to get back to me :).

If I may add, I doubt this was really politically motivated (despite the political message that was left). People who have a genuine gripe towards the US or its policies have better things to do then deface a Dragonball message board.

It's more like some loser trying to cover his tracks.

Most "politically motivated" things aren't actually so... they're yeah, just that... little kids in foreign countries trying to be all big-'n-bad and using politics as a scapegoat for reasoning.

Exactly. When I first saw that "political" message, I knew it was just a joke. The hacker just used it to make it seem more alarming.

I seriously oubt that IS a foreign person at all, its some lame ass 8 year old who thinks its cool to pretend to be a muslim terrorist, much like he thinks L337 and harassing people is cool.

And yeah if it was, what Mike said - we have a democracy that means inherently that while majority rules there will always be a minority that disagrees and this goes for ANY view on anything.

What amused me was how he claimed to be a muslim terrorist, yet used christian iconography. XD (The grim reaper thing I mean)

Actually, that image more than likely represents the Angel of Death (see the wings?), which is Christianity-related. If it were the Grim Reaper, he is universal, and actually has his origins in Thanatos, the Greek God who came for the dead's souls.

Not just that but the name "Abo Mohamed" immediately proves the author isn't arab.

The term "Abou" means "Father of". It is used as an affectionate term (a friend, family member, etc.) by other people, NOT by the person himself. In other words, my dad for example would be called "Abou Adnan" by friends or family but he himself would never call himself as such.

No arabic person would refer to himself as "Abou... ". The only time he'd be called such is by others close to him.

What genius? Go to Google and look for a script. I can be done in less than 5 minutes by a blind retard with a raccoon shoved up their ass. Prolly applies here.
