The number of episodes per season is so inconsistent, they should all feature 40 eps like the Dragon Boxes.BluezaBladeNZ wrote:Just noticed that they got the episode count wrong on Season 2, it should say 35 not 39.

Anyone else notice that these sets look like plastic dvd cases? I really hope we get these in cardboard sleeves like the Funi release, or else both the packaging and video quality will look like ass.

Probably not.NessMudkip wrote:Anyone else notice that these sets look like plastic dvd cases? I really hope we get these in cardboard sleeves like the Funi release, or else both the packaging and video quality will look like ass.
Manga Ent. UK releases use plastic cases (BD/DVD) and tbh, I never liked the orange bricks in cardboard package, the new repacks look better in plastic cases. In some cases, metal cases for example, Akira's Blu-ray Collector's Edition (it was supposed to be a 10k Limited Edition but they produced more afterwards).

My favourite box-set from Manga Entertainment is by far the Death Note box, includes the complete series and a booklet. IMO, way better than the R1 packaging.

But as of now, they no longer come with the booklet, this is the only difference from before.
Edit: Desert Punk's UK box is another excellent collectible, same style as the Death Note box but instead of translated cards, it's in Japanese!

I did like the way Madman released theirs but they could have at least put the Shenlong artwork or the spanning logo spine on the other side instead of a reversible cover. But by the looks of the photos above, the Magna release might be just blank inside.

If this proves to be a success then possibly they'll do Dragon Ball / GT / Films + Specials "digitally remastered" bricks too.
UK/Europe (ES, FR, couple other countries already published with their dubs, I think) should have its own release of Dragon Ball series regardless of how bad the quality may be.

Actually yeah, after seeing those boxes, they do look pretty nice. I kinda want the Shenlong spine art though.

Re: Dragon Ball Z: Orange Bricks - UK Boxes Art
Okay, so wait. Are the 'Orange Bricks' supposedly 'bad'? I read on the front page about the sets coming to the UK, and I felt pretty excited since I've never got any sort of DBZ VHS or DVD set (aside from the Slug VHS movie which I got for my birthday many many years ago) before. So what's wrong with them, and what are the better alternatives?

There's many, many topics on this, but in short:DonieZ wrote:Okay, so wait. Are the 'Orange Bricks' supposedly 'bad'? - Original image cropped to 16:9, making you lose 20% of the picture
- Detail-removing DVNR (Though not nearly as bad in the later sets.)
- Extremely bright and oversaturated, especially "season" two, leading to lost details in shading and darker areas
In general, as the only release in the UK, the orange bricks are "watchable" (other than "season" two, which I can't stand), but not "good".
As an aside note, their remastered movies are much better, and the movies are supposed to be seen in widescreen, though the early movies still have brightness issues.

These screens were posted here: http://www.kanzenshuu.com/forum/viewtop ... =7&t=18879
The best option out there but quite pricey are the Dragon Boxes Z. The optimum time to get them was during when they were first released now they're OoP'd (some of them are still cheap).

The Orange Bricks are cropped from the original 4:3 aspect ratio into widescreen (16:9), which cuts off the top and bottom of the frame/ Also, the remastering was very bad in earlier seasons. Colors were enhanced to be more saturated than before, again to varying levels between sets.
There is no real alternative for you that's readily available. The Dragon Boxes have gone out of print, the Blu-rays were cancelled, which leaves the 4:3 region 1 singles, which aren't uncut, and also have... 40 volumes I think? The R2 singles are available without subtitles, but they're expensive as far as I know and have many volumes.

They are uncut, but there's a bunch and 28-68 weren't released because the Ultimate Uncut Special Editions were cancelled.Son Satan wrote:The Dragon Boxes have gone out of print, the Blu-rays were cancelled, which leaves the 4:3 region 1 singles, which aren't uncut, and also have... 40 volumes I think?

Nice! I'd love the Dragon Ball "blue bricks" to come out over here, but I might hold off for Dragon Ball Dragon Boxes even if they do.VegettoEX wrote:Just wrapped up an interview with Jerome there at Manga UK. Re: Dragon Ball Z: Orange Bricks - UK Boxes Art
I was talking about the Pioneer singles since the UUE were cancelled. Meaning that while you can technically get the "whole" series (with the majority of the story intact) by getting the Pioneer singles for the first episodes, those aren't uncut.Pokewhiz7 wrote: They are uncut, but there's a bunch and 28-68 weren't released because the Ultimate Uncut Special Editions were cancelled.

No way am I getting those now. Quite a shame too, was getting excited for my first DBZ box sets. Generally I wouldn't want them to do bad with these sales, but I'll definitely tell anyone who interested, that I know, just how bad they are. What a shame...
Question though, in the pictures where Goku is hiding in the dark, which one is the original version? I would guess that the one with more detail is, but I feel as though the other is better, and could be the original version.

Re: Dragon Ball Z: Orange Bricks - UK Boxes Art
The one where you can actually see the inside of the drawer and the stairs are from the Dragon Box. The ones on top are so over saturated and with no detail that you can't see anything.DonieZ wrote:Seriously, is that how bad they are, or at least can be. Then why on earth are they deciding to release it in the UK all of a sudden, and furthermore why are are even continuing to use and release some such ill-edited versions? There are a few others it seems, like the DragonBoxes, Blu Rays, etc. So why havent they discarded such monstrosity and started solely developing the better versions?

And yeah, releasing this is almost as much as a slap in the face as not releasing anything. I can't see this getting any positive reviews when it comes out. (and then, if it fails, the fans will be blamed for not buying a mediocre product)

Holy mother of God, I had forgoten that to Season Sets were THAT bad!dbboxkaifan wrote:See this.
(Horrible images)

James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.
