So Viz translated Murasaki to purple? I think it was better left as Murasaki, and also I like it when manga and anime leave some Japanese in, you can learn a bit like that. I may have known about 10-20 words before I started learning Japanese.

Also, by "English name" do you mean strictly English in etymology (if that's even possible), or just names common in English speaking countries? Because if it's the latter, then Chichi sounds like a pretty normal name to me.
Gill or Gil is a fairly common name, too.

I always assumed that the Red Ribbon members' handles were codenames or rank designations, not their actual names. I mean, what are the odds that every high-ranking officer/general would have a colour as their name?
Of course, you could say the same for all the Saiyans having vegetable-related names and whatnot, but the RRA isn't a species/family, it's a randomly thrown-together bunch of humans, so there's not even any internal logic in it like "Oh, it's a family/Saiyan tradition". The fact that Toriyama didn't even try to change the words around a little like most of the other name puns just enforces that IMO.

It's not just the high ranking officers that have color names. Metallic and Murasaki are enlisted ranks. But I don't see how it's any weirder than the fact that Yamcha, Oolong, and Puer are all named after teas (and the act of drinking it). They're not related, and the words their names come from aren't changed around, either. You could say the exact same thing about Tenshinhan and Chaozu (same theme, not related, names not changed from the original word). Some other theme groups don't change the original words either (Piccolo and his kids, Blooma's family), but those involve relatives.

Didn't Red said that when people were teasing him, they called him "little Red" or something? So, I guess it's his real name. Besides, they are English words in a Japanese manga/anime. For those who don't know English in Japan, they don't sound like they sound to us.

I've never met anyone by the name of ChiChi either. In Spanish it's slang for something vulgar, oh lets just say "breast." Honestly, in Spanish I've never heard anyone using it but apparently in Latin Spanish zones it means "milk", "baby" or "boobs". However, in Portuguese "Chichi" is "piss" but the Brazilian Portuguese dub kept the original name than using a replacement name.

Well, I don't know any Chichis personally, but the name just sounds normal to me. "Chichi Rodriguez" sticks out in my mind, and apparently he's a golf player?
