Re: Times when you've preferred the dub music
The only time I do like the dub music in the movies are for movies 5, 8, 12 and 13.
The rest are just bleh including the new music that was composed for the first 3 movies. I tried watching Movie 2 with dub music but it made me want to fall asleep a quarter of the way into the movie.

Afraid I'm going to have to differ there.Codarik wrote:it's a shame they didn't have Chris Patton voice Greed 2

Hate to say it, but I find the number of pro-dub-score people here quite disheartening.

Oh, I know how you feel about Chris Patton's Greed, I read your blog and watched your voice actor comparison video. But I should stop here I don't want to get a warning for going off topic.penguintruth wrote:Afraid I'm going to have to differ there.Codarik wrote:it's a shame they didn't have Chris Patton voice Greed 2

Unbearible? Mixed with movie 2 yes, but to be fair it is good on its own, I personally find Nathan Johnson's music to be highly underrated.DHM211 wrote:Ohh yea movie's 2 u.s score is unbearible but, movie 1 has a great u.s. score.Gonstead wrote:The only time I do like the dub music in the movies are for movies 5, 8, 12 and 13.

Re: Times when you've preferred the dub music
Isn't part of the mark of a great musician being able to compose music that fits the show though? Not that I've actually seen the movie with Nathan's score, but I'm just saying.
Believe me, I feel the exact same way you do about the anti-dub music feelings I see when I visit these forums. Not that I'm implying anything bad about those people.Hate to say it, but I find the number of pro-dub-score people here quite disheartening.

It's not so much a bad thing, just some people prefer it more. As I mentioned earlier, something similar is the case with Return of the Jedi. For guys not sure, this is the original ending from 1983 and this is the remastered endingfrom 1997. I like both, but I prefer the remastered. Some guys like the original more.jpdbzrulz4sure wrote:Hate to say it, but I find the number of pro-dub-score people here quite disheartening.

Yes Nathan's music can range from unbearible to amazing.Codarik wrote:Unbearible? Movie 1-Amazing
Movie 2-Unbearible
Movie 3-Great
DBZ EPISODES 1-67 good-okay
Its hard to believe nathan could do somthing as good as movie 1 only to suck on movie 2.
Re: Times when you've preferred the dub music
Personally, I think his best work was in Movie's 12 and 13.DHM211 wrote: Yes Nathan's music can range from unbearible to amazing.

Re: Times when you've preferred the dub music
Just a small nitpick, Mark Menza did the music for movie 1 not Johnson. And yes, Johnson did do movies 12 and 13.

Goku's SS3 transformation. That's the main one for me, I think. It's not that I dislike the track they used in the original version; I just don't think it was fitting for such an awe-inspiring scene.

Never, really. I do like numerous tracks from the Bruce Faulconer score, but I can't think of any that I actually preferred to the overall superior Kikuchi soundtrack.

Does the whole series besides the Saiyan and Namek sagas count?

Re: Times when you've preferred the dub music
I will say this, though. I think a good bunch of the Faulconer tracks are good music in and of themselves. I just don't like them as BGM for DBZ.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

Re: Times when you've preferred the dub music
Admittedly, it's probably mostly my nostalgia filter speaking, since I grew up with the Funimation dub and Faulconer's score, but for the most part I do prefer the dub music. I still enjoy the original score, and prefer it at times, but I lean toward the Faulconer score. However, one thing I'll definitely admit annoys me is the dub's over reliance on having music play constantly. A lot of scenes are better served by silence, like most of "Final Atonement."
