Short, but sweet. I like the composition of that one. It's very festive sounding, which makes sense in the context it was used in.

It's a good theme, with a somewhat suspenseful beginning, and a good second half, but it also features that sort of "WAAAAAAAAAAAA, WAAAAA, WAAAA, WAAAAAAAA!" sound that seems to come from some sort of weird guitar/horn hybrid (never could figure out what that was). Weirdly enough, I've always had a weird sort of apathy towards the Japanese score, and looking at this video, I think I may have finally come across a reason why.
It's that, even in a lot of fight scenes, or otherwise suspenseful scenes, Shunsuke Kikuchi doesn't really use instruments that have a lot of OOMPH behind them, and in some scenes, there's just flat out soundtrack dissonance between the seriousness of the situation, and the music not sounding as suspenseful as it should. If you want the perfect example of this, just watch Raditz's first conversation with Goku, and listen to some of the music that plays. That's not to say heavy or dramatic pieces aren't THERE, they're just few and far between.
Anyways, that out of the way, feast your eyes on THIS!

I like the atmospheric and somewhat hopeless sound to it and the piano part that comes in half-way through the piece. However, I found myself losing interest in the song near the end. Overall though, not bad.

Very nice happy funtime sound to it in the first minute, and I love the way it was used when the puppy was chasing Boo. I also like how, after the first minute, it transitions into a darker tone, like something bad is about to happen.

A very humble victory tune. I like the down-to-earth, yet triumphant sound the piece has. You also gotta love that silly part near the middle of the song. I remember something funny happening there, but it's been too long since I've seen Movie 8 to remember.
All in all, a great piece through and through.

A very nice orchestral version of the main theme song. Very heartfelt sounding though it's placement in the series is questionable when first used.

Re: Opinions on Pieces of Music - V2!
Hmm...well, it's good, but...it's really repetitive, and sounds like something out of a SNES or Arcade game. Also, maybe it's just me, but I personally don't think it's dramatic enough considering that this is the fateful fight between Adult Gohan and the Androids that ends up with him dieing. The fight is so intense and has so many twist and turns, that having this 5 minute song that just sort of loops over and over again seems like a real disservice...
Although, given the absolutely AMAZING song that comes in near the link you provided, that song that plays when Trunk's finds Gohan's corpse in the English dub (a song that I think blows the original Japanese music out of the water), I'm willing to bet that the results of the FUNI soundtrack were due to executive muddling (Make the music more HARDCORE FOR THE KIDDIES!!) and inadequate resources provided to the music team rather than anything else.
Anyways, here's another Team Faulconer piece that I've always really enjoyed...

Re: Opinions on Pieces of Music - V2!
It's an okay piece. I find the structure to be kind of strange, personally. Otherwise, it seems like a good overture for the battle that's to come between Gohan and Cell.

As far as being the first original DB piece of this thread, I already beat you to the punch on page 1, remember?
Anywho, I love that piece, and whenever I listen to it, it sounds like a great mystical adventure is about to begin. It's too bad that it was only used once in Z.
Next up, how 'bout some Kai music? Heroic Face-off.

Very suspenseful piece. The switchover and buildup leaves you wondering what will happen next, what's unexpected and to be seen. The track then moves on to a more heroic sounding vibe, as if something big is coming to an end. The ending trumpets leave you with a satisfying end to the track as well.

A great piece of music with a very triumphant sound to it. And it uses the melody of the choruses of the Budokai 2 theme song, which is pretty cool. It's also a track I've listened to rather frequently when I first got my copy of the third Kai OST CD.

Sounds like something that would be near the end of an episode, almost like wrapping everything up for the next adventure to begin but not before something crazy happens which makes you feel satisfied where they ended it.

Re: Opinions on Pieces of Music - V2!
Very dark, creepy, and mysterious sounding, like something out of a horror movie. This is my preferred version of the piece, as I've always thought the harmonica in the released version was unnecessary and somewhat distracting.

Has a playful, energetic sound to it as if something is just on the edge of their soul trying to release the energy all at once. Would fit perfectly with antics that Goten and Trunks would come up with.

...man, and I even checked before I posted that to make sure that it was in fact the first Dragon Ball piece in this thread. Oh well.jpdbzrulz4sure wrote:As far as being the first original DB piece of this thread, I already beat you to the punch on page 1, remember?![]()

Anyway, that piece is pretty tense and dramatic, Gonstead. Very good piece. It kind of reminds me of battle music you might hear in modern day adventure games. Shadow of the Colossus came to mind when I listened to it (since I'm currently playing through the game for the first time).

Re: Opinions on Pieces of Music - V2!
I think it's a nice, sad sounding piece. This next one has been stuck in my head for a while. makes me really wish the Yamamoto scandal never happened, because Kai's score for the most part is awesome. A lot more preferable to Kikuchi:

Re: Opinions on Pieces of Music - V2!
Great piece. I like how the piece changes as the song progresses, but manages to makes the transitions between the changes seamless. I also know this piece is essentially "The Man Called C" from Budokai 1, but that song is excellent as well.

I think it's a good ominous piece, though if it's for the scene I'm thinking of, a little too dramatic.

Pretty good--very energetic and motivating. I don't think it's really befitting of the context, but an otherwise fine piece of music.
Mystery of the Z-Sword
If there's one thing the Faulconer Team had above all others, it was a capacity to compose ominous music.

Definitely very ominous sounding though perhaps a bit overboard once it starts at around 0:22 to which it loses most of it's charm.
I love this piece used at the end of Movie 2.
