I think she's pretty cool. I know she censors LOTS of stuff, but we have to understand where she stands, this is a PRETTY hard job. She stands between two factions, the ones who want the shows to be "awesome" as in "full of action and excitement" and those who want the shows to be as calm, boring and non-controversial as possible. But I think she is pretty understanding of what Vortexx wants to acomplish as a block and lets lots of stuff be. Because EVERYTHING must be approved by BS&P to air on the Vortexx.
At least she even allows Z Kai to air on Vortexx. She could easily just not air it at all and find a show less violent to take its place. Not to mention I only got into Z Kai because it aired on Toonzai/Vortexx, so I do have to give her that much.
On a side note, did she also work with Toonzai?

You are awesome Fennekin!
I dont think so. Sure her edits are similar to those of 4Kids but they seem less restrictive than them. I know its hard to believe but I feel that way.

Dont forget they cut out Shenron completely from the show because they thought it was too scary for kids.
How. The. Fuck. Do. You. Remove. The. Dragon. From. DRAGON BALL Z?!

To be fair, this was a crazy advertiser's fault, not Saban' and or The CW. A 4Kids employee told us so.

Especially when Shenron was shown granting the wish so Goku would come back to fight the Saiyans.

I was just out of high school when Saban's edited version came out. I didn't care for the censorship, but it didn't bother me as much (except that next dimension crap) as the CW ones I hear about. As a media student, I understand advertisers have a huge sway in a channel's standards and practices, but the Toonzai stuff sounds ridiculous; and to be honest, adults are more like to be offended than kids. For example: I was a teenager, but I never mistook Mr. Popo or the Pokemon Jynx to be blackface because that was way before my time. As an older adult, I can see and understand clearly that's not what they are.
As for Frieza and Cell, they have no more genitalia that a male doll or one of those masculine drawing dummies. Shenlong scary? If I were a kid even today, I doubt I would be afraid of the dragon. Of course, how children reacts depends on how they are brought up. I grew up watching Voltron, Transformers, Jem, etc. I remember even playing Dungeons & Dragons with me dad. It was cool that he didn't really censor me as a small child from stuff other than like pornography.
I think how DBZ was edited in the Toonami edition is how I would personally handle stuff if I were head of a network, although Nicktoons wasn't bad considering.

All things considered, Nicktoons handled the editing of Z Kai very well. And while Toonzai/Vortexx wasn't as good, it wasn't horrible. They did what they could to get this on air, and it was alright to my standards. I do question some of their edits (Android 18 kissing Krillin on the cheek comes to mind) but not many.

^Seeing your icon reminds me how Vegeta and Nappa were changed to eating Shrooms. Brilliant censorship, amirite?

I watch Dragonball Z Kai on Kabillion's FIOS On Demand channel from time to time. The edits aren't a big deal IMO; they censor some dialogue, violence, replace halos with spheres and add sparkles to characters getting blown up but that's it. They still keep the dragon
The world's greatest.

I just checked it out. It's not bad at all. The only edit that really annoys me is the blue Popo, but that's such a minor detail to the whole of the story.

And having caught many episodes on my DVR from this version, It's still much easier for me to stomach visual edits with small dialog changes, than no visual edits but huge dialog changes. Example, the original 270 edited run of DBZ in America. ZKai, even edited, is VASTLY superior to what we were given as kids.
Yet If I was forced to watch the edited version I'd watch the toonami version all day long, the CW is just too much.. it's saban + 1.

I'm sure the Popo thing was rather obnoxious, but it seems like you could actually pass the series by for the most part with only a few violence edits. It's not like Bulma's breasts come flying out ever 5 episodes in Z.
Yeah, it's really "script change edits" that bother me, I understand that as far as visual edits are concerned, a lot of that is mandated by TV networks. Having said that, the over-zealousness with which some visual elements were edited on the CW dub are, at times, comical. When Chaotzu exploded, they added.....sparkles........like little glittering sparkle-lights.
The ultimate example in my mind, however, was an edit they performed on Freeza in the episode when he's trying to cut Goku with those two energy discs. In between his legs, there's a little.....I don't know what to call it, a....I guess a "notch," that was painted over so that the area between his two legs was pure white.
It would appear that somebody over at the CW's editing department thought that notch was, well....genitals.
That edit had me in stitches laughing. Who out there is seriously
that easily offended?

No no no, seeing those little balls replacing halo's is what had me in stitches, seriously how in any way can someone say halo's are offensive ?
Religion?
Seriously.. CW/4kids needs to lose the broadcast rights!

4Kids never had anything to do with the editing decisions on theCW... and neither does Saban. They're just following the BS&P rulings made by the network.
Also, you think that's bad? Cell's crotch is painted green. All forms.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
I don't think that they butchered it, though I have to ask: Does anyone know why they made Mr. Popo blue? I never understood why they did that.
