Man, coming from the Viz 3-In-1 thread to here is a double-whammy of hurt...

I'm perfectly fine waiting two years. But... FOX really does have first dibs? Oh, the hurts...

Agreed. I hope Funimation in return for the wait will get us some more Dragon-boxes. possibly some other goodies like the Jump Special,Episode of Bardock & and Plan to Eradicate the Super Saiyans? :D Funimation doesn't even have to Dub them. just release them for us. :P
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

Or maybe/possibly/hopefully-but-probably-not finally putting the Jump special, Episode of Bardock, and Plan to Eliminate the Super Saiyans on legit DVD's over here? ...Hey, a man can dream. :P That and I do think it's gonna happen eventually, it's just a matter of when.
I agree it will probably happen, but I got a feeling they could come later then even this movie....

Z movies and original Dragon Ball. Nuff said. Get us hardcore fans hooked on the old school once again, then release all this new stuff. We will buy it all! Even the not-so-hardcore fans will buy these new releases if they are advertized well enough.

It would be amazing if FOX dubbed the film with Justin Chatwin, Emma Rosum, and the rest of the cast of Evolution! :D

Two years....I can't even say for sure where I'll be in two years.
This may come down to me importing the Japanese Blu-ray (U.S. has the same Blu-ray region code as Japan, but I don't think they share the same DVD region code) in the fall instead.
On hiatus.

I'm just going to sit in a corner a pray that FOX of America is still aching too much over Evolution's performance to want dibs on any future DragonBall productions...

Make room in that corner for me, because agreed.

Is it possible that if Fox declines their options on it fast enough, that FUNi could arguably get it sooner than 2 years?

That makes sense a little bit. Fox might distribute BoG seeing Navarre is out of the picture, but Funimation can still dub the movie and do a 50/50 joint venture with them like re-releasing the series and movies under the Fox label. I'll laugh if there's a 20th Century Fox logo at the beginning of Movie 10. :o

The two years thing doesn't surprise me at all. That's consistent with the FUNi releases of the Evangelion Rebuild movies.

As for Fox getting first dibs, it's a little worrisome, but for now I'm going to choose to be optimistic. If Fox doesn't turn it down, them hiring the FUNi cast is not a far cry from reality. I am worried, though, that Steve Simmons won't get to sub BoG.

Does anyone know Fox's track record when it comes to importing and translating foreign movies, particularly anime?

While I hope Simmons gets to do the subs for the movie I'm pretty much set on just buying the Japanese BD at this point.

They are just BEGGING for piracy (I'M NOT ADVOCATING) if that's going to be the case. I hope these companies get their shit together for real on this one.

So just how in hell did Fox end up with such important rights when they've contributed nothing to the franchise for all these years? Ha maybe they'll actually try and dub it and get Justin Chatwin to voice Goku

When the contract for the 2009 film was drawn up it made perfect sense to get an exclusivity clause for future films in the US.

To add, it's possible the idea of BOG hadn't even existed when they drew up those contracts either, or that they even imagined the LAM would turn out the way it did.

Yeah, I think the idea of Battle of Gods had only begun in 2011 after Kai failed. Even then, Shueisha probably thought the Fox movie would make a lot of money and begin a new era of partnership with Fox.

Not to mention they initially planned a live action trilogy.

Now I'm a tad (but only a tad) worried that Fox will get it and cast all the parts with live-action film celebrities, just for the sake of star power.

Honestly, though, I couldn't see Fox being too interested in this. It's too outside their normal market. My guess is we'll get a FUNimation dub and release in time.

...........Well. If that happens, here's a video of what my response will be.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

Hopefully it won't take two years because I probably won't wait that long. If someone does quality fansubs for it, I'll watch it fansubbed in English than official subs (until they exist).

Of course, I'll buy the Blu-ray, if it is Region B compatible.
