Re: Do you hate when DBZ fans say every anime is a rip off
It does bother me when people say something in one anime is a direct ripoff of DB, but there are times where I agree. The most prominent example in my mind right now would be in Naruto when I haven't read Naruto in about a year or two, so I don't know if it directly lifts anything else from DB. As far as I can tell, Naruto is more DB inspired than anything, and the same goes for most other action shounen anime/manga. So yeah, it bothers me when people say that they're blatant ripoffs. You might as well call Star Wars a ripoff of Flash Gordon and Shakespeare plays or any given superhero a ripoff of Greek mythology.

Naruto is very obviously inspired from Dragon Ball, but I wouldn't call it a rip-off.

Re: Do you hate when DBZ fans say every anime is a rip off
Dragonball practically drew the blue-print for modern Shonen in the same way that Gundam and Patlabor did for Mecha and as such its influence can be traced in literally hundreds of works. It doesn't annoy me when people recognise Dragonball's influence in something else, but perhaps I'm not overly fond of the wording 'rip off' if I hear it used. That said, I don't really find issue with that either because I understand that sometimes people aren't very good at eloquating what they're trying to get across and use the term 'rip off' too casually without giving any consideration to its more negative connotations. Amongst younger people especially 'rip off' is often used interchangeably with 'influenced by' so I think it's important to approach instances of people using the former in relation to anime with a pinch of salt.

Re: Do you hate when DBZ fans say every anime is a rip off
I like that loads of things are inspired by Dragon Ball, and when people acknowledge it. Imagine the butterfly effect if DB never existed!
I'm pretty sure Super Sonic was meant to be a joke more than anything. It wasn't stealing an idea, it was just meant to be funny that collecting seven magic things turned you into something exactly the same as a Super Saiyan, right down to the naming system.
Some people do go overboard though, like whoever it was that said Doctor Who is a rip off of DBZ because that Doctor is an alien who looks like a human but is better than one, who's home planet was destroyed, and who saves the world, as if that isn't an incredibly common storyline anyway. Doctor Who noobfans started rebutting it by saying DW started in 1963 and DB started in 1984, but they seemed to forgot that none of that stuff happened in Doctor Who until 2005.

No. Why should it bother you? People are always going to have opinions that come off in a negative way, that's only to be expected. There is no need to take everything to heart, especially on the internet. People may write comments for the very purpose of sparking an adverse reaction. In any case, DragonBall is a very famous series that surely inspired many during its time and still to this day so it is understandable why such a thing would be presumed, especially by the younger generation.
Re: Do you hate when DBZ fans say every anime is a rip off
On the contrary, I'm more annoyed when Dragon Ball's influence is left unacknowledged by fans of newer, and oftentimes lesser series.

What topic? I'm open to ALL responses hence why I made this topic. I was just saying stuff I heard people say that it makes this angry and saying that it makes me angry. It's called using other people words for your own purpose. Not to mention one of the issues was REAL LIFE with a person who is around the SAME age as me. SO not everything was from the internet. That example was real and came from me. You didn't need to write a lecture when I was just giving examples on how people feel.Son_Gohan wrote:There is another thread you started that follows a similar pattern. A topic thats purpose is for spewing hatred on other members of a fan base. Since a subject like that clearly has the makings for constructive, enlightening conversation. Based on your response, I don't find you're being very open with it. You would rather have me post a one-word answer of "No" without providing reasoning for it? That would make it seem as if you created the thread just to have others affirm your own emotions. In the opening post you even acknowledge that it is due to their ignorance, so what do you further expect to gain from this topic? A greater post count?TheGmGoken wrote:What topic? Nope. I said it was no need for a lecture. You could have said no or yes and explain. That's fine but the lecture wasn't really needed. Didn't I say only 1 part of the beginning topic was what really happen and that was with MY FRIEND. I said in my past post that I collect what people said and used them to create this topic. People have said it's due their ignorance. It's called(AS I WILL SAY AGAIN) using other people words for my own purposes. I expect to here other people opinion on the topic's matter. Maybe for future topics that I can quote them on and for my own data reasons. Depends what comes first. You would rather have me post a one-word answer of "No" without providing reasoning for it? Not only is it a reference to Super Saiyans, but it's also a reference to Kamen Rider, given that he's wearing what looks like a Kamen Rider's Driver.Black_Liger wrote:All of our Arguments are Irrelevant now.

References happen, especially with popular series.
One could argue quite fairly that Toriyama was inspired by Superman's origin when making Goku's Saiyan origin. That doesn't mean it's a rip off, because Toriyama takes it in a different, rather interesting direction (Jor El sending his son Kal El to Earth was well intentioned *both to save his own son's life, and potentially to help the people of Earth, should his son grow up and choose such a path*, whereas the Saiyans sending Kakarot to Earth was to kill people off, and he only got out of the destruction by luck).

Re: Do you hate when DBZ fans say every anime is a rip off
It doesn't appear that way. You're using this forum as an outlet to vent out what frustrations you have, and using your "friend" to justify it. If you weren't so emotionally-attached to what other people say there would have been no need to create the thread in the first place. With each response you keep proving that another persons comments get taken too far on a personal level. The reaction from my post shows that you took offense to it, had this topic not been so self-centered it wouldn't have bothered you.TheGmGoken wrote:Nope. I said it was no need for a lecture. What are you talking about? All I said was he called Rn a SSJ. Me being "Pissed off" was a C/P from a PSN message I had for over a year. DIdn't I JUST say I used other peoples words for my own uses. So obviously I gather other people words for this topic. So in fact I made this topic because of other people feelings not my own. I just put in an example of my friend(Why the quotations?) saying Ren was A SSJ. Almost everything else was OTHER people words.. No it's not personal. I'm saying your lecture wasn't needed. This topic isn't even self center. Don't you see other people responding with their opinions and jokes. Example:With each response you keep proving that another persons comments get taken too far on a personal level. Kind of, yes. The only blunt rip off that I know of is Sonic. All others claims are blown way out of proportions, in my opinion.

...because your choice of pronouns and lack of quotations doesn't make it very evident. Nobody forced you to make this thread you did so on your own accord. Trying to hold others accountable doesn't give validity, nor detracts from the fact that you created it. This may come as a great shock to you but this thread wasn't needed. I mean if it really pisses you off as much as your post would convey then directly educate these people to your heart's content; not talk behind their backs about how ignorant they are. It pisses me off greatly sometimes.
When I showed a lot of Youtube users Gurren Laggan(piss me off the most because it's my favorite anime) they said it's a rip off of DBZ because they fight in space. Like seriously. What in the hell.
The original topic doesn't entail anything other than the question in the title, the rest consists of an emotional diatribe and nothing further is asked of this community. The members had to go off on a tangent because the main subject itself is too self-serving to purely focus on. If everyone stayed on-topic it would've merely had people agreeing or disagreeing with you. Where the former was clearly something you needed reasserted, hence the thread.

NONE of the topics on here were "forced". I'm doing this for my own research...because your choice of pronouns and lack of quotations doesn't make it very evident. Nobody forced you to make this thread you did so on your own accord. Trying to hold others accountable doesn't give validity, nor detracts from the fact that you created it.
Just like your lecture wasn't needed and this whole "Argument". A lot of topics here wasn't needed but still asked. Just for people own knowledge. This may come as a great shock to you but this thread wasn't needed.
It doesn't piss me off. I'm gathering information and using other people words for my own uses. In fact I've called many Youtuber DBZ fans ignorant. Not a big deal as you make it out to seem. Just collecting data.I mean if it really pisses you off as much as your post would convey then directly educate these people to your heart's content; not talk behind their backs about how ignorant they are. If that isn't enough for you, then yes, you've taken it to a personal level.
It's called giving examples. The question doesn't need to be explained so I just gave examples. Using words I've people say.The original topic doesn't entail anything other than the question in the title, the rest consists of an emotional diatribe and nothing further is asked of this community.

They did stay on topic. They gave some examples of homages and ripping off. How they feel. More examples but was suggested by Akira Toriyama himself. I didn't reasserted anything. You felt you needed to lecture hence why this is going on right now. I suggest you put a stop to it as well as myself. If everyone stayed on-topic it would've merely had people agreeing or disagreeing with you. Togashi rip off DBZ ? if you mean Yu Yu Hakusho it definitely has similarities, Hiei's character is exactly like Vegeta's, and fights are so similar too. but it's not a rip off at all. Hunter X Hunter the only thing that looks like a rip off (or let's say inspired) is The King design in Chimera Ants arc, it looks like what would happen if Freeza and Cell fused, but he mostly look like Cell.Saiga wrote:I am pretty sure Super Sonic being a homage to Super Saiyan was acknowledged by one of the creators. But I don't know much about Sonic.
But yeah, it annoys me to hear how everything is a rip off of DBZ (although some things really do seem that way, like Togashi's works).
