This movie had the perfect balance for me. It's also a good movie for casuals who haven't watched the series and is just a fun ride all around the running time.

haha this movie was aweosme!!! I loved the comedy in it and Janempa (sp) had a cool design (his final form anyway) and of course Gogeta despite his cameo appearance and of course Goten and Trunks fighting Hitler

I remember watching this movie years back, in the days when I was still relying on Youtube for my anime viewing experience and merely watched whatever tidbits of the Japanese version I could find due to how I never did like the dub even back when it was practically my only option... At the time I found it hilarious. So, rewatching it now several years later...

It's still hilarious. From Freeza showing up all high and mighty only to get instantly obliterated by Gohan, to them attempting to get Shen Long to fix the problem only for him to go "Uh, I can't do that" and then just being left there waiting for a wish for the entire rest of the movie, to Janemba being weak to insults (see, it's kinda like when Lord Slug was weak to whistling, except in this movie there is absolutely no doubt that they weren't trying to be taken seriously, whereas with 4 I kind of have to wonder what tone they were actually going for) to Goten and Trunks fighting the blatant Hitler-rehash, (though yes, shame on Toei for not doing any real jokes on that. I've never even seen the dub of this movie and yet I still adore that "I should be recruiting these two, not fighting them!"-line) to Vegeta and Goku's "I'd sooner die than fuse with you!" "...But you're already dead." " :? " exchange... Yeah this movie is just plain fun.

Like many of the Dragon Ball films, there's nothing wrong with it, it just likes to pull a bad guy out of nowhere for the sake of facilitating a fight.

The animation is well done and the bits of dialogue between Goku and Vegeta are pretty touching but it lacks a certain cinematic quality (aka a real plot) that I feel is present in other films.

Easily the best DBZ film to date.

I liked the Boo Arc's presence in this film. Genuinely funny & fabulous actions.

SSJ3 Goku vs Super Janemba (loved the roundhouse kick Goku delivered to Janemba's chest) & Gogeta vs Janemba (short & sweet) are very well choreographed, something which lacked in M13.

The animation was also a lot better compared to the previous films.

In short, one of My All-Time Favourite DB film.

Maybe that nostalgia is in the play, but ever since I saw trailers on RTL II on this movie to screen in cinemas, I wanted to see it so badly, that my friend was searching for it whole week on net and Kazaa and then downloading it for next week.
So after two weeks, we were watching the infamous fansub version with ''I'm the instrument of your defeat!'' line, which was totally awesome and gave more badassness to Gogeta.
Still like the movie a lot today. Yeah, I have more favorite movies in terms of my canon and continuity (1, 5, 9, 13), but this is The Dragon Ball Movie!
What people said about, that this is the most ''Toriyama-like'' movie, I completely agree. Really, those spoofs with ghosts were hilarious. Mostly Romeo and Juliet! Or Dracula with stake
Not mentioning the Hitler + serious battle with Janemba on the other side, who is probably with Cooler my most favorite movie villain. Damn, brick-like teleporting, time and space manipulation..... + love the design.

Other than Makafushigi Dai Bouken this is probably my favourite Dragon Ball movie, it has cool fights, lots of goody moments, awesome characters and a weird setting. It has some nice special effects too, like when Goku starts transforming and it has always reminded me of the '70s Doctor Who openings, here and here, and then here's the scene with Goku transforming!

I have to say that movie 12 is definitely my favorite. It gets closest to that Toriyama feel, like others have said and has very good pacing. Think about all they crammed into it's run time. It doesn't feel rushed or anything. The animation is beautiful and even utilizes some cgi techniques. I love the concept behind the story and Janemba too, one of the more creative of sll the movies. I also have no problem with how quickly Gogeta defeats Janemba, because truthfully that's thr point. He doesn't mess around, he just takes care of business. Also they even gave Pikon something to do. Just a great film.

I liked how this didn't feel like a movie. I find most of those movie stories boring anyways. Tapion was a borefest. This was just simple fun that had everything I could ask for.

As much as I love Tapion's design, I'm really not impressed by him that much as a character....

In all fairness though, if that was the biggest issue with this fansub-version... it can't have been all that bad because really, that line is more of a slight rephrasing to make it sound cooler, as opposed to an actual translation-error. I mean, "Instrument of your defeat" VS "The one who will defeat you"... The meaning doesn't really change at all, does it? You still get the point that he's all "My name is irrelevant. The point is I'm gonna kick your ass and that's all you need to know."

My favorite one because of everything. Also to me it feels like it doesn't drag on too long. Its pace is spot-on.

Yeah I know, those fansubs were horrible, but nobody knew that at the time, so we thought that these were some official subs. We were kids at elementary school back then, kids don't care or understand anything + those were times, when importing stuff was virtually impossible, the nearest trend idol was usually the country right next to you (in this case Germany) and even the internet was not that huge and informative, as it is today. We were kinda isolated and you can't imagine the groundbreaking joy of finding out official US Star Wars page or Dragonballz.com and looking in envy and amazement on what Americans have and we don't.
+ there were these cool guys, being wealthy as hell, visiting far away countries abroad and bringing back awesome stuff.

I'm pretty sure movie 12 is my favorite. I think Janemba is a pretty awesome villain, Gogeta is of course sweet and I love the design of the afterworld after Janemba took over. Knowing me I'll have changed my mind by tomorrow, but for now 12 is tops.

Yup, one of my favourite DBZ movies. I remember having a Anime Labs Fansub version saved to my computer. The dub for the movie was very good.

I don't think any of the DBZ movies work on their own. I would imagine someone who never saw DBZ or knows nothing about it would be confused as hell when watching the movie. I think the first DB movie and Path of Power work on their own though.

Lol
Most long-running shounen films suffer the same problem & isn't exclusive to Dragonball alone.

The first 3 Dragonball movies work alone. They are sequels to each other( I THINK. It was never stated). If you watch all the movies in order up until Dead zone. They work on their own. Just either have Path to Power has the starter or the first DB movie.
