FUNimation's "Saiyan" vs "Saiya-jin"

I'd like to point another thing out about this whole Saiyan and Saiya-jin business. Saiyan, as most of us know, is mispronounced in the dub (Say-an). Although a majority of us have gotten used to it and prefer saying that over Sai-yan. >_> *cough* Anywho, FUNimation always that pronounciation wrong..yet got it right for the Saibamen. First three letters in Saiyan and Saibamen are the same. Yet they somehow missed it with Saiyan.

I wouldn't really say they missed it. It was just their choice of pronunciation for the two. I think trying to say "Saiyan" like "Sigh-yan" would have sounded a little silly in FUNimation's.

This was always my assumption from the moment I heard Boo say that; that Funimation was putting in a little joke for those fans who would understand it.

Personally I prefer "Saiyan" over "Saiya-jin" for the same reason that was stated on page 1; I'm not Japanese, and therefore do not place "jin" suffixes at the end of my speech. I'm guilty of using the dub pronouncuation of "Say-in" instead of the proper "Cyan", because I'm just too used to saying it that way now to change.

Well, how were people saying 'Saiyan' before Funimation began dubbing DBZ? They weren't the ones that came up with the word.

Not sure about that in the States, since most of us here saw it in dub form first.

The Mexicans were saying it as "Saiyajin" considering that's what they dubbed it as in the Mexican dub.

Oh, and for all those "Saiya-jin" elitists on the boards, technically the proper way to go would be to pronounce it as "the Saiyas."
