I remember distinctly cheering for Vegeta while watching DBZ as a young kid. This is Namek arc Vegeta too. I wanted so bad for him to get the wish and be immortal. I was just as mad at Gohan and Krillin as he was for trying to cut him out of the wish.

My reasons? He wasn't a goody-two shoes. He just went around, killed whoever he wanted to kill, took whatever he wanted to take. All with that smirk.

Nowadays I kinda hate him. Well, maybe not hate....just indifferent. And seeing him get beaten by Eighteen makes me smile.

Why is Vegeta so loved WORLDWIDE(Japan love his ass too. Have you seen character polls?)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6iilKB0uNM - SAIYAN BLOOD!

That song in a nutshell explains why Vegeta is loved. He can be badass. He can be smart. He can beat the shit of you. He can be awesome. Hell. BoG and YSGAFR proved that he can be funny....by accident.

If you want to ban me, I won't complain. I think staying here is doing me more harm than good, but I can't just make myself stop coming for some reason.

What exactly are you saying "ew" to? The fact that Japan likes him which debunks your post? Or do you not like Vegeta? Just curious. What was the "ew" about?

Oh, sorry. I don't read or watch a lot of Batman material, I just figured he was by the little snippets I have seen.
If you have to compare Batman to any of the Z-senshi it would be later DBZ era Piccolo - that is, he can fight but is not the strongest available, but he's the smart guy who comes up with the plans and strategies, and always keeps a cool head when in danger.

Unless it's "AllStar Batman". Where he's "THE GODDAMN BATMAN!". In which Batman in more or less like Vegeta in Cyborg or Freeza Arc

I think he took your post literally.

If that's all you want, then all you want is fanservice, rather than an actual coherent story. And of course those aren't mutually exclusive; you could have a coherent story with "shine" moments! But if a story is perfectly coherent (and I'm really not seeing any compelling arguments that this one is anything but, despite constantly recurring, really poorly reasoned, attempts to argue otherwise), and you're bemoaning the lack of "shine" moments as a reason for the story's poor quality, then you're letting your thirst for "shine" moments obfuscate your ability to detect basic storytelling when it's right in front of you.

Yeah, I guess I like Piccolo the most after all. Out of all the enemies, Piccolo Daimaō is the one I like most, and even after that I like Piccolo the most. I like Piccolo about the same as I like Goku. With Vegeta, well, I don’t like him all that much, but he was extremely helpful to have around. For the recent stuff, it was fun drawing Satan. When I first brought him out, I didn’t think that I would end up making Satan that important of a character. I thought he’d just be a one-shot character.

Satan is like that, but thinking up worthless gags is more enjoyable than doing the fight scenes. (laughs)
That came from the interview in Daizenshuu number 2, here's the source. http://www.kanzenshuu.com/translations/ ... interview/

Funnily enough this kinda helps answer your other thread too.
i recall that he said that once i read this Interview a long time ago..he knows how valuable Vegeta is and i dont think that he hates him or anything like that ...still his best character by far ..he

Because everything about him from his hair to his attitude just screams badass. He's basically everything the "adrenaline junkie" side of DBZ is all about. An impulsive maniac who'll stop at nothing to get his way who then turns into a moody jerk who is only just on the side of the good guys and often borders on the verge of evil.

While comparatively not as popular in Japan as in the West, Vegeta is still pretty popular, he's just not as popular as Goku.

I would assume he was a unique hero for an American Cartoon at the time.

I wouldn't consider Vegeta at all like Batman, or Batman to be an antihero. Vegeta, however, is. One of the reasons he's very popular is he doesn't take crap from people. He's also dynamic. When I first saw the series, one of things I loved was watching to see what happened to Vegeta because after his fight on Earth he was going after other bad guys, but was still clearly one himself.

If there is indeed a difference at all between his popularity in the West and in Japan, I would guess that it's due to his more psychotic personality traits being toned down, at least in terms of dialogue.

Something that appealed to pubescent/teenage boys. I don't because he went around killing people or something and was 'badass' with all his dub quotes, I don't know.
It is in his character to be rude and a bit crass. He's a hick, with no formal education. That is Son Goku. That is who he is.

Superman in an orange Gi was the bastard son of FUNimation. Its not The real character, it is as false as Chatku.

THIS!

But also paired with the fact him & Goku are the only two characters to stay powerful/relevant throughout the entire course of Z using mostly their own hard work, at least once all those nonsense near-death power-ups came to an end. You know they worked to earn what they got, whereas Gohan eventually relied on a ritual and Goten/Trunks were just born unrealistically gifted, plus fusion. The philosophical rivalry between him & Goku despite similar origin is also interesting, but that's more sub-context than most folks ever think about.
