I always knew Goku's name, but I too used to think Yamcha was a Saiyan because he looked similar to Goku.

Dragon Ball GT was going to be dark and gritty that it would have hard core sex scenes and swearing that would put South Park to shame.

This reminds me of one that I forgot about. I also used to be under the delusion that the original Dragon Ball was much more 'adult' than Z, due to the things I'd heard about the nudity and so on. This fascinated me, to the point that when it came on TV and was editted, it made said edits all the more obvious to my eyes than they may have otherwise been.

I'd like to think I'd have noticed something odd about Goku's digital underwear regardless though. I mean for Kami's sake, it MOVED. TOWARDS BULMA. That's...more disturbing than leaving him naked really.

I always knew Goku's name, but I too used to think Yamcha was a Saiyan because he looked similar to Goku.

To be honest, his hair is really similiar to a Saiyan.

Saiyan Saga hair = similiar to Broly
Cell Arc hair = Future Gohan

Also Gohan had all of many Yamcha hairstyles for his entire life.

At the time people didn't know DragonBall, kids at school confuse it with Ken or Ryu

I imported Dragon Ball Z Legends after only watching the Ocean run on Toonami up to Reacoom. Not being able to read or understand Japanese wasn't a hindrance on enjoying gameplay, but I was SO confused on who characters were. Who were these blonde people dressed in clothing similar to these other characters that I knew? What happened to Goku? He was the main character for goodness' sake!

I also got Dragon Ball GT Final Bout a little later. I could play as Goku, but also Little Goku. Oh, okay, yeah he's younger, that makes sense. But I could also play as Super Little Goku. I didn't think he was Super SAIYAN little Goku, but thought he was "super-little" Goku. So I guess shorter/younger. I was like "WHOA! Goku was ORIGINALLY blond and then got black hair? That is insane!

Either through misreading or being misinformed - I thought that older, Future Trunks was called "Trunks" while younger, present timeline Trunks was called "Gotrunks." I knew of Vegetto and Gogeta, but I, for some reason, was under the impression that the character of SSj4 Gogeta was actually a different name for the fusion called "Gozita".

I took the dub at face value (which was a big mistake), though the biggest "Huh?" was figuring out that Freeza was a guy. I held no illusions that what I was seeing was edited for TV, since the made-on-video bits of censorship (HFIL, the blue beer, and especially the time-compressed panning shots) were painfully obvious. The biggest newbie mistake I made, though, was buying into Cartoon Network's hype that Gundam Wing was anything other than dreadfully boring.

When I was a kid and my cousins and I hadn't finished watching Dragon ball, one of them told me that Goku grew up, got married and had a kid and I thought he was lying

I thought that Tullece was Goku's cousin. When Kaioshin appeared I thought Piccolo was so shocked because it was actually Android 17. Don't ask, they had similar eyes or something . lol. I thought Mirai Gohan was Yamcha until I saw Trunks say his name in the special. When I first saw SSJ3 Goku and Gotenks on a promo I thought they were their own individual characters and I thought the SSJ3 form was just a normal Super Saiyan form for that character. I also thought Celipa was Goku's mother, After the timeskip when the Buu arc ended, I thought Trunks was Mirai Trunks until I saw older Goten, etc. I'm sure I have more but I can't think of them right now.

Why? I honestly don't know. I just saw his picture on the web after watching the first episode of Z, and thought, "They must've cloned Goku. Interesting..."

I also used to think Krillin was a guardian of the Dragon Balls because of the dots on his head.

Due to misinformation on my friend's part, there was a long period where I believed that every set of dragon balls would destroy the world if not regathered in a year, not just the black star ones from GT.

I also believed that there would be more Saiyans later on in the series, because of Veggeto and Gogeta.

Haha, the first moments of Dragon Ball Z I recall are when Goku just came back to Earth from King Kai's place, and I hear these characters randomly yelling, for like minutes long. Then there's this big bulky, half naked guy, and everybody has got these very dramatic looking facial expressions, then Vegeta goes screaming ITS OVER 9000!!!

So, when me and my bro would stop by the library when we were younger and get a VHS tape of another episode I would make fun of it and say "more random yelling and half naked people LOL"

During my early school days there happened to be a lot of other people watching DBZ at the time, so most of my friends knew what I was talking about when I said "over 9000" then acted like I turned SSJ, with an angry face. I was about 8 years old in 2nd grade when I got introduced to DBZ. Those were the days.

I probably have some of the same "typical" ones anyone at a young age could have, i.e. Freeza was a woman, etc. etc. I think I had a computer back then so my childhood fault was looking at fansites and taking every word as true.

When Trunks first appeared, I thought he was Gokū in disguise. Probably helped by the fact that the Portuguese dub had them voiced by the same person.
